Wow Manny just dropped a triple double. It is only the 2nd triple double in Michigan history.

I know it's "only" Northern Michigan, but oh my goodness. This team is extremely deep and talented. Vogrich is lights out and Morris looks like an excellent "true" point guard. This is going to be a great year.

That kid can really stroke it. His athleticism isn't as good as others on the team, but damn, 5-5 from behind the arc in your first game. Mad props to him! Hopefully this is a good indicator of how his stroke holds up under pressure in the years ahead.

that Manny got a triple double, but I am surprised that it was only the second in UM history. Some score keepers are much more liberal when it comes to handing out assists (if Duke scored and Bobby Hurley was on the court they gave him an assist) but I am still shocked that this is only #2 in history. Anyone know who had the other?

The 1-3-1 is going to be a weapon this year. We flashed it early with Morris on top and LLP in the paint. Morris' length is going to give teams a lot of problems in that 1-3-1. I remember last year we would use Douglass up top with Merritt/Lee under the basket. The offense is nice, but in Big 10 play, especially this year, you are going to have to stop teams from scoring at will.

in order for manny to even think about leave he has to be a for sure first rounder. and the only way that is going to happen is if manny shows that he has his head screwed on right there year, there can't be any "evil manny" moments this year.

Michigan is going to have the same problem with big physical teams, like MSU, that they had last year. Nice win yesterday against an over matched opponet but teams in the Big Ten and some of the tougher non conference foes, will not sit idly by why we jack up uncontested three's. Michigan's lack of a inside game will once again be it's achilles heal.

That remains to be seen. We may now have the athleticism and shooting ability to create mismatches against teams that are frontcourt-heavy. (Last year, our walk-on point guards - whom opposing teams didn't bother to guard - and inconsistent shooting from our freshmen negated much of our advantage from going small.) If we're raining threes while their big guys are slow to help out on defense, we can more than compensate for whatever they get inside against us. Also, I think we may start to see more two-big lineups now that we have more than two actual posts on the roster.

I think we are a good team but not a great team, and don't need to wait and see if we are going to have problems with big physical teams, we will. Against MSU last year it was such a struggle to get a good shot, it was difficult to watch. We are not any different athletically than we were last year, Grady was the most athletic guard and he is gone. If we go with 2 in the post it will take away from the perimeter game. Gibson looked good last night, but does not instill fear in the opposition. We are good but flawed. We barely made the tournament last year, this year should not so close a call. The nights we struggle with our 3's, and there will be some, we are quite vulnerable. Just ask Savannah State.

You seem to have completely ignored what I just wrote above. Yes, we struggled to get off a shot against MSU. That had a lot to do with MSU not even bothering to defend our walk-on point guards, allowing them to defend the other four players with five defenders. (And even then, they had a tough time stopping Sims inside.) That's something that they (and other teams) won't be able to do this year. What Beilein accomplished last year with Lee/Merritt at PG is astounding. We are not any different athletically than we were last year? Compare our starter at the most important on the floor (point guard) with whom we started last year. (As for Kelvin Grady, yeah, he was athletic, but he was also nailed to the bench most of the season.) This year we should have five legit D-I players on the floor at all times. That has not been the case in a few years. Teams will have to find a way to defend the entire floor. If they dare double Manny or DeShawn, our perimeter guys will burn them. We may still have some issues defensively and on the glass, but I don't think you'll see us being held under 60 much, if at all, this year. Our offensive productivity should be the best it's been in years.

"We may still have some issues defensively and on the glass." Again I think we are a good team. Trying to add some perspective. Very little attention is given to the weaknesses of this team, it seems we are going to be continually on O with Manny abusing the opposition and our players draining 3 after 3. For the most part we probably agree with each other. How many games do you think this team is going to lose? I will put the over under at 8, which way do you go? I think 10 is likely.

There's too much discussion of Manny's future. The season just started. Let's just sit back and enjoy getting to watch a player of his caliber in the maize and blue. Worry about him leaving after the season ends.
