MAILBAG: Submit your questions for Alex's piece tomorrow

Submitted by Alex.Drain on January 12th, 2023 at 2:05 PM

It's been a little while since I did a mailbag and while we wait around for Harbaugh to decide, hockey to return from break, and more basketball things to talk about, I figured it was a good time to do a piece like this. So, send questions my way about any sport you like and I'll pick the best ones.

The better the question, the more likely it gets included.

how worried should we be about cornerback? how likely is this 2023 team to 3-peat the Big Ten? What are the areas for the coaching staff to improve?

Why is basketball struggling to recruit an NBA caliber point guard? It's been 10 years (Burke). The brand is internationally strong. The staff includes NBA veterans. There is solid talent already on the roster each year to play with. Minutes are available. They consistently make deep runs in the tournament. A Michigan player is seemingly drafted in the 1st round every year.

With JJ, Blake The Great, and The Don all coming back next year, what is your prediction on percentage of touches per player? How much do you think this changes in the big games (MSU, PSU, OSU)?

Why are we unable to coordinate a coherent succession plan after Harbaugh either retires or leaves? A buyout is largely superfluous if our next coach is on staff. Then just pay the man and let the chips fall where they may.

Our inability to do this shows many things about the AD and (likely) Warde. I find it hard to believe Jim would be against this as it gives him maximum leverage to leave whenever he so chooses.

What do we think about Juan Howard as an HC? Did he have the Wiley Coyote year and decline from there or has he just kind of had bad luck (Injuries, Frankie flaking, Transfer and NIL issues, etc.)?

I love the person but the results have been inconsistent at best.

Near the begining of the 2022 season the MgoPod crew answered the question "who do you think will be Michigan's top pass rusher by the end of the season". Each of the crew gave a unique answer because no one really stood out.

I think it's a good question for 2023 as well. I really am not confident in anyone and seems likely to yet again be a major weakness in 2023.

Would MGoBlog consider more coverage of non-revenue sports at Michigan?   The Board sometimes reports on these activities, but it is hit or miss.

I would love an occasional feature about M track, lacrosse, swimming, and tennis.  There may be opportunities to develop sponsors for MGoBlog related to these feature pieces.

Who are the most logical internal and external candidates to replace Harbaugh if he goes?

What is the liklihood of Jadyn Davis actually committing?

What's your read on Warde? Does our history with Brandon having his fingers in everything give us an unrealistic expectation for public commentary from the AD's office? Or has he really been as derelict in his duties as the MGoHivemind things?

With Corum back, do you think it's likely that our offense will remain "bash the small man into the line over and over" or do you think JJ's emergence as a passer in the last few games will force a more even run/pass distribution?

ok real question this time

Given the hockey team is sitting at 12-7-1 (4-6 in conference .... eww) what are the chances we get at at large for the playoffs if we finish the way we started (9-5 in the last 14 games of the year) and don't get an auto bid by winning the B1G??

I can probably answer this one, in case Alex doesn't. Assuming winning percentage stays roughly the same, the pairwise will as well. There are typically only 1-3 bid-stealers, so Michigan just has to be #13 or higher to be sure they'll make it, and is currently at #8. If Michigan really does finish how they started, it's an extremely high likelihood they'll make it as an at-large. I'd say almost guaranteed.
