The doom and gloomers on here will try to spin this in some negative way as well I suppose.
Someone actually suggested Michigan Basketball isn't a top program, when they were the national runner-up last year, weren't ranked outside the Top-10 ONCE last year and have one of the newest and feared atmospheres in college basketball.

There were fools on here suggesting that Red needs to go after one losing season in 22 years last season. I wish I was making that up.
I think it will be Mel Pearson who replaces Red when he decides to retire. And who knows when that will be. Hopefully as long as he wants. Maybe send him out with a NC.

I agree with you re: Mel Pearson. I found myself thinking the exact same thing while watching the game Saturday night.

but I don't know if I'd like it if he got it. He was a great assistant coach here for years and years but I'm not sure how he'll do as a head coach. He took Tech from being abysmal to being somewhere between bad and ok, not sure if he's going to be the caliber of HC that Michigan will be looking for

Mel took off for Tech right when DB was hired and announced his policy of "M HCs need to have HCing experience." Within a month, Mel was offered, declined and then re-took the Tech job.
I bet he left to get HCing experience, hoping to be a serious candidate when Red retires. Mel will be on the short list of 3-4, but IDK how'd that would turn out.

My wife works with a former Michigan hockey player and a few years ago at a Christmas party I got the chance to ask his opinion on who should replace Red when he steps down, Pearson or Powers? His was response was neither. He regarded Pearson as the superior coaching tactician but was a lackluster recruiter and Powers was a strong recruiter but weak on the coaching side of things.
So, yeah, maybe Wiseman.

We aren't Duke, UCLA, UNC, Kansas, or Kentucky yet. At least program-wise.
But I mean we are a young, exciting, up-and-coming program. We have a lot to be excited about moving forward. I would say we are the top-promising program in the land. But it isn't a powerhouse yet man. 1 final four run in the last 20 years isn't that special. I mean, Butler has us beat there.

I categorically disagree. Duke's goalie sucks. UCLA is totally weak on defense. Kansas is horrible on the penalty kill. Kentucky can't convert a power play goal and is perpetually offsides. And don't get me started on Butler.
Great to see the team regroup after last year's disappointment. Hopefully Red can take this team far, and start a new NCAA tournament streak.

The closest I'll come is this: our forwards are all Darren Helm. Which makes them super fun to watch, but they can't really finish. If they could, this team would be really, really good. As is, they're a solid defensive team that's getting fantastic goaltending and control the puck enough to eventually get goals.
It's a B+ squad that's going to contend for the conference, make the tournament, and if they get going have a decent shot. Don't play the Gophers until Valentine's Day, which is a bit odd.

Listen I'm excited as anyone about the basketball program but lol at one of the most feared atmospheres, there are at least 3 in the big ten alone that are consistently louder/considered more intense. Yes I know we have had a great record, but that doesn't mean the atmosphere is great.

Well earned after the start they have had this year.
It should be a lot of fun watching Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin battle it out this year for the inaugural B1G Hockey Cahmpionship. Even better most people will actually get to see it on BTN.

This team is very fun to watch. Guys dig along the boards to win puck battles and forecheck hard. Add in the continued emergence of Copp as a tremendous two-way forward and it's been a great first month of the season.

Copp is clearly our best forward this year. Might be the best forward Ive seen at Michigan in the past 3 years.

Despite looking 'eh' against Tech, we obviously got the sweep while #2 Notre Dame split with unranked Vermont and #3 Providence split with lowly ranked BU.
I have my concerns with the team (defense, lack of scoring) but I will take it
