And they hit the shots last year. I'm not trying to say that Beilein is the be-all and end-all of college basketball coaches, but in the games where we've seen the kids play with fire, they've been fairly good. (See the OSU game.) You can only do so much to motivate them.

the 14th game of the season, last year no longer matters. We are who we are and we are not a good three point shooting team. I think JB is a good coach but we have to be more than a one trick poney out there. If the threes aren't falling (0-12 in the half is not falling) then we need to change it up.

we agree on. The only play we seem to run to get Manny in the post is a high screen from Sims for Manny to go to his right and penetrate. Sims needs to play big in the middle to help free up some guard penetration. Hopefully something starts falling in this second half.

Silver lining, I decided to start tracking a few trends I've noticed in the Big Ten. I am watching the under and the home team with the spread and so far it's amazing. In the four Big Ten games this week, the under is 3-0-1 (Purdue and Minnesota pushed) and the home team is 4-0 ATS. Tonight was -2.5 PSU and 129.5 o/u, so it looks like we're on our way to 4-0-1, 5-0. Gentlemen, place your bets...

Not stopping the ball on d. No effort to create passing angles. No one outside of novak crashing the boards or going for loose balls. Won't win games even if you're shooting well, if the effort isn't there.

It seems to me that the team is just unmotivated. When you have team leaders like Merritt and Lee playing motivated to earn minutes as walk-ons, the team sees that and follows their lead. When you have team leaders like Simms and Harris who have clearly checked out in hopes of NBA futures, the team is likely to follow that mentality as well (sans Novak). I didn't realize how import the loss of Merritt and Lee was going to be. Also, after seeing how unmotivated this team is (again, sans Novak), I am starting to question Beilein's ability to coach Michigan teams to winning seasons in the future. No doubt he is the nicest and most ethical guy out there, but those two traits alone are not going to win us basketball games. This team has been so frustrating to watch. I feel your pain.

To be honest, I don't really see the lack of effort / intensity many are mentioning. I see god awful shooting and bad turnovers. Giving up 31 a half should win you most games. They just can't score to save their lives.

LLP might as well not be on the court, on offense he cant make a shot, on defense he just lets his man do whatever he pleases EDIT: I am an idiot. LLP was the big star of that second half.

Manny Harris has not looked like an NBA player this season, definitely not a first round pick anyway. That said, he looks like he has already checked out, so I'll be interested to see whether he decides to stay or declare for the draft.

What's odd is that they seem so flat vs PSU;they seemed much more focused and sharp against Osu. Home vs away problems? A somewhat undersized outside shooting team isn't going have too many other options on offense. But 0-12 is pathetic. Clang, clang, clang went the bball...

Last year: Queme los barcos? THIS year: Queme los coaches? Sorry - they don't teach you Spanish in the Mob. EDIT: Looks like my natural Mich pessimism came too soon. Glad to see them gettin' after it.

This year, but it appears to me they are being defended a bit better. It doesn't necessarily look, to me, as if they've lost their shooting touch as it looks like other teams aren't going to dare them to hit the shot. But the puzzling thing is the free throw shooting.

Wow changed channels to watch the Alabama Texas pregame (and because I couldn't watch the bad basketball.) I come back and they take the lead!! Hot shooting! Odd theory: the basketball hoop on the right (as seen by the TV viewer) is rigged.
