And just like that. Offensive line depth is back to hoke levels
please let the couple weeks part be true. Best week 3 bye week ever?
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:47 PM ^
Sam Webb said the only one who has had a season-threatening injury is Stueber.
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:51 PM ^
Bummer. I thought he’d be back mid season
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:21 AM ^
Season threatening does not necessarily equal season ending.
August 23rd, 2019 at 2:49 AM ^
Last I heard Stueber was going in on 8/19 for an MRI on his knee. Anyone hear what degree sprain of the ACL and/or MCL. Hopefully it will be a slight tear and not require surgery and that he can be back by mid season.
August 23rd, 2019 at 8:40 PM ^
There Is a 3 hour practice this year and the team goes from 10 to 10. I’m hearing from a friend on the training staff that everyone is banged up right now.
August 23rd, 2019 at 7:23 AM ^
When has bpone ever let season threatening not be season ending?
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:40 PM ^
I’d put the red jersey on every projected starter if I were Harbaugh.
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:42 PM ^
If true, I can see Mayfield swinging out to LT and bringing Hayes in at RT. Alternative option is to have Bredeson move over to LT, and Filiaga comes in at LG
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:53 PM ^
Word is Stueber was at LT when he got hurt...insinuating that Runyan was already out at the time (not sure why they didn't pay Mayfield there...)
Anyway, Hayes is LT. Warriner was pretty direct when he talked about having to get him ready.
Sounds like Runyan will miss a game or two. Nothing has been confirmed...just rumors that have picked up.
Rumor also has it that Trente Jones is pushing Honigford for backup RT and we have worked on a line where Mayfield plays LT, Bredeson RT and Spanellis or Filiaga come in at LG.
It seems like there is a lot if mixing and matching to see what works. They know the starting line, we know the starting line...now it's getting guys comfortable in different roles until game week when prep and chemistry is more important.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:10 AM ^
To be clear...neither Honigford or Jones is playing. Just 2nd team. I'd say OL rankings not including the two injured players is...
1. Bredeson/Ruiz
3. Onwenu
4. Mayfield
(drop)
5. Hayes
(sliiiight drop)
6. Spanellis
7. Filiaga
(CLIFF!!!)
8. Vastardis/Rumler
10. Carpenter (banged up)
11. Hogniford/Jones
(sliiiight drop)
12. Barnhart
13. Keegan/Robinson/Stewart
If Runyan was healthy he'd be tied for 1, Steuber would obviously be with Mayfield.
August 23rd, 2019 at 9:59 AM ^
Warinner on Jansen's podcast made a comment on how DL vs OL was like war in practice and said that was a good thing (long pause) and a bad thing. I've never really heard a coach worry about guys going too hard in practice, but I'm guessing he was lamenting the injuries that had already happened at that point (he was talking about the Stueber one openly, but not Runyan).
August 23rd, 2019 at 10:52 PM ^
Not really what I want to hear after BTN spent half the Michigan show pounding on the poor November record.
August 23rd, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
"Word is Stueber was at LT when he got hurt...insinuating that Runyan was already out at the time "
I don't think that's true. The mgoblog post on Stueber getting hurt was 9 days ago. Runyan had a media interview posted by Isiah Hole 6 days ago. I really doubt they'd have put an injured player out there to talk to the media.
August 23rd, 2019 at 8:04 AM ^
Filigia not athletic enough to play tackle? Must be why he was never penciled in there.
August 23rd, 2019 at 10:46 AM ^
Nope.. its why many of us including me where going nuts how every OL we were getting were inside guys like Filiaga, when we desperately needed three OT.
August 23rd, 2019 at 10:50 AM ^
Yup. True OT recruiting has been a wasteland under Harbaugh and it has derailed more than one season already. Truly mystifying for someone who preaches what Harbaugh preaches.
August 23rd, 2019 at 11:50 AM ^
Absolutely 93. Tackle recruiting was one of the biggest needs when Harbaugh took over and he waited way too long to address it
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:44 PM ^
So Bredeson goes to LT and Spanellis comes in at LG? Boy that sounds not fun
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:11 AM ^
Nope, Hayes. Bredeson is a guard. He is not a tackle. Except for a couple of weeks in camp before his true freshman season, he has never been a tackle. This comes up every year, and he never, ever plays tackle.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:51 AM ^
Except for 4 years at LT in high school. And the best tackle in the state of Wisconsin, iirc.
He could pull a Mason Cole if absolutely necessary, though I’d still rather see Hayes and Mayfield get their feet wet.
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:44 PM ^
I can't confirm...but if true it is the ultimate dong punch.
August 23rd, 2019 at 8:44 AM ^
Michigan football is the ultimate dong punch
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:45 PM ^
Wouldn't expect anything better as a Michigan football fan.
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:50 PM ^
umbig11 confirmed this earlier on another thread. Awful news. Let’s hope for a speedy recovery...
August 22nd, 2019 at 11:58 PM ^
Don't forget we have an early bye week.
Target date for Runyan and for Ambry Thomas.
Hayes-Bredeson-Ruiz-Onwenu-Mayfield
... I'm still more concerned about CB. A lot of DJ Turner hype but he's still a freshman. I think it's going to be smoke and mirrors at CB opposite Hill.
Hill is going to have to be a lock down CB because he's not going to get any help.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:00 AM ^
Think Runyan could play sooner, only if needed. Safe to keep him out at least week one, maybe for Army too.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:33 AM ^
That is correct. Let's see how Hayes does over the next few days.
August 23rd, 2019 at 7:45 AM ^
I mean we were a bit banged up at the beginning of 2016 and made it through fine with Hawaii/Colorado/UCF. Lewis was out first 3 weeks and starting corners were Stribling/Clark. Taco got banged up during Hawaii and didn’t hit full stride until mid season. Think Mone got banged up during camp as well and didn’t play much all year.
So it’ll be fine, right? Right. Right? Right.
August 23rd, 2019 at 1:11 AM ^
I’m concerned about Army. It would be nice to have him back for that game.
And fuck fuck fuckity mother fuck what the fuck please football Gods no more.
We need to pray, do a no injury dance, sacrifice a live goldfish, whatever it takes.
August 23rd, 2019 at 7:40 AM ^
I don't think we should be concerned about our offense vs Army - we should have our way with them on that side of the ball no matter who is on the OL.
The problem will be getting the ball in the offense's hands.
August 23rd, 2019 at 10:00 AM ^
We should...but two missed assignments could mean the loss of 14 points in a grinder game.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:02 PM ^
Yeah, Army shortens games so it cuts your margin for error quite a bit. Fluky things happen in football. Certainly could have a missed assignment or two, a tipped pass INT or some fluky fumble make things closer than we'd like.
August 23rd, 2019 at 8:07 AM ^
i cleaned the kid's gold fish tank today. a half hour later i noticed one was laying on the counter. still alive though. maybe i should have left him there.
August 23rd, 2019 at 9:23 AM ^
Update: he didn't make it. Should be good on injuries now.
Kids are not going to be happy about this.
August 23rd, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
Have you considered that he had made an evolutionary leap, and by putting him back in he drowned?
August 23rd, 2019 at 10:05 AM ^
DP edit.
August 23rd, 2019 at 10:06 AM ^
The method of sacrifice is not important to the football Gods. We should be good now.
Thanks and get your kids a puppy.

Hello BPONE my old friend....
August 23rd, 2019 at 8:17 AM ^
With friends like BPONE, who needs enemies?
August 23rd, 2019 at 10:26 AM ^
I've come to talk with you again ...
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:09 AM ^
Welp, there goes the neighborhood.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:13 AM ^
Next man up, no excuses...have to find a way to deal with the inevitable injuries that occur every year.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:23 AM ^
This appears to be a small bang up. The guys are hungry and practicing hard. That bodes well for the season.
August 23rd, 2019 at 5:16 AM ^
Ha. Appreciate the optimism. But I hate the reality.
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:35 AM ^
Injuries happen to every team. It’s why consistent recruiting is crucial. Depth is what separates a good team from a championship contender, we will find out easy if we have it.
heres to a speedy recovery
August 23rd, 2019 at 12:46 AM ^
OK. Thanks to umbig11, MaizeBlueA2, and DrMantisToboggan, I feel like I can quit drinking and go to bed until the next crisis. Seems like we will be able to make our way through this one.
My liver and apnea affected brain thank the three of you very much.
