God damn what a piece of shit institution.
October 28th, 2019 at 4:23 PM ^
Spartans will... always do the wrong thing.
October 28th, 2019 at 8:24 PM ^
I understand circling the wagons...but I mean your talking about covering up the rape and sexual abuse of dozens of young women some who were minors, I would think everyone would agree that’s a line worth drawing regardless of which laundry you may root for individually. Nothing less than sickening what’s going on there.
October 28th, 2019 at 4:17 PM ^
Quitting isn't going to solve anything. Somebody has to speak for the victims.
October 28th, 2019 at 4:40 PM ^
Fair point, but having people with integrity and credibility on the board, when they are powerless to actually effect change, serves as nothing more than an undeserved reputation boost for a morally corrupt institution.
October 28th, 2019 at 5:27 PM ^
Sounds like a bright woman; I'm sure she weighed the effect her resignation might have against the value she might retain as a sitting member.
October 28th, 2019 at 8:26 PM ^
It seems she is getting more attention to the fact that MSU doesn't want an honest investigation by resigning. Her words were largely overlooked...at least this will give it a bit more juice for a short time.
October 28th, 2019 at 8:28 PM ^
I’m not sure why this isn’t a title IX or even an affirmative action issue which would compel federally authorities to mandate transparency and an independent investigation. The act itself was horrendous but to keep hiding the shit must be a continual slap in the face for all victims and loved ones.
October 28th, 2019 at 11:00 PM ^
It seems she thought quitting WAS the best way to speak for the victims. Not sure what else she is reasonably supposed to do. She has already shown more guts than the rest of that administration combined.
No one is arguing that this solves anything, but realistically what would? (And could be accomplished by a lone trustee)
October 28th, 2019 at 4:17 PM ^
Great, the BoT is too Sparty for the non-Sparty, and she can't take it anymore. The old guard can't be voted out soon enough.
But at least Simon is going to trial.
October 28th, 2019 at 4:26 PM ^
Even 1 or 2 of the recently elected board members who campaigned for more transparency has backed away from their tough stances.
October 28th, 2019 at 5:02 PM ^
Pretty sure she opposes it because the investigation as proposed wouldn't really uncover anything new since the investigation would still be bound to the same limitations as the sham one.
October 28th, 2019 at 5:09 PM ^
Simon is only going on trial because the MSU Trustees have no say.
October 28th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
If the trial is in Lansing you can be sure its fair and impartial....wink wink
October 28th, 2019 at 11:16 PM ^
Believe its been moved to Eaton County.
October 28th, 2019 at 4:18 PM ^
I don't know why someone would quit their position if they can get inside information, document it, then leak it to the press or hand it over to the authorities.
October 28th, 2019 at 5:55 PM ^
I'm not sure that's entirely legal depending on the circumstance
October 28th, 2019 at 4:20 PM ^
Lou is a very handsome woman.
October 28th, 2019 at 4:20 PM ^
I guess quitting is a good way to show frustration, but it won't bring about the change she wants. Staying in a position where you can champion the changes you wish to see is better, IMHO. Sad to see this, but what do I expect from a trash university like Michigan State?
October 28th, 2019 at 4:27 PM ^
Note that Brianna Scott has a very specific reason for holding up the investigation:
She said it's better to wait until the board can waive attorney-client privilege. The board so far has refused to do that, citing ongoing lawsuits over whether MSU's insurers should refund parts of settlements and other costs associated with the Nassar scandal.
Scott was expected to be one of the new board member who turned everything around. I don't know if this is a stall tactic or a legal tactic but it surprises me that she'd be one of the issues here.

Around the same time she made that decision, she went into business with Ferguson, the shittiest trustee.
I tend to think it was a corruption tactic.
October 28th, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
Damn.
I know a victim. I voted for Brianna Scott because she had taken a serious stance about it.
This isn't about rivalry. This isn't about partisanship. This is about doing the right thing and cleaning house so that such a horror can never happen again.
Damn.
October 28th, 2019 at 11:05 PM ^
I voted for a different trustee candidate because his grand daughter was assaulted by Nassar. We don't need people who talk a good game. We need people who actually give a shit.
October 29th, 2019 at 8:17 AM ^
This may violate these politics rule but honestly for the next election I wouldn’t mind a post in MSU trustees candidates and their platforms on cleaning up the university.
I did research last time but I obviously missed some stuff.
October 28th, 2019 at 4:50 PM ^
What a shithole
October 28th, 2019 at 5:01 PM ^
Sparty faithful say, "All this because Nassar forgot to call for a supervisor"
October 28th, 2019 at 5:06 PM ^
Rot in hell.
October 28th, 2019 at 5:30 PM ^
This crap is why MSU will forever be known as the Little Green Rapists
October 28th, 2019 at 6:07 PM ^
Yikes. They should be kicked out of the big ten
October 28th, 2019 at 6:14 PM ^
Amazing how MSU, PSU, and OSU all have had incredibly damning decades-long sexual assault cases.
October 28th, 2019 at 6:11 PM ^
I'm a true blue Michigan fan but I'm still embarrassed by that school in East Lansing.
October 28th, 2019 at 7:22 PM ^
All carbon based life forms, except those that grow in ingham county, are still embarrassed by that thing in east landfill! FIFY.

Fuck Michigan State University
October 28th, 2019 at 6:35 PM ^
Seems like the state should step in and just cause them loads of headaches until they sack the whole BoT and start over with a totally new administration
October 28th, 2019 at 7:36 PM ^
I’m curious how much of the powers that be in Michigan is comprised of Sparties who wouldn't step in unless physically forced to do so.
I don’t know. I’m not insinuating anything, but it’s a valid question.
October 28th, 2019 at 10:47 PM ^
Remember that our darling new governor is a former prosecutor up there.

Hopefully that dude gets doxed and his wife and kids can know what a jagoff he is.
October 28th, 2019 at 8:49 PM ^
There are a lot of gems there, mostly of the variety I've come to expect when a bunch of older men (and I can claim with near-certainty that virtually everyone posting there is an older man) fail to contemplate that they may exist in a world where not everyone is treated as king swinging dicks. It's pretty amazing to read them say stuff like "This is a University that acted with integrity, paid half a billion in settlements, in an impossible situation that brought-down a fine president and excellent AD (FYI to all, LAKS just got effing bound over for trial for "lying" to police about her Nassar-knowledge, sickening). The campus was never unsafe, but political-profiteers used that as a mantra. It's and was a friggin' lie."
And I'm sure for a bunch of bros walking around campus, it's reasonably safe. But based on the mountain of evidence we've seen both with Nassar as well with others, it wasn't all that safe if you were a woman.

Board member enters transfer portal.
October 28th, 2019 at 7:57 PM ^
It is sad that we have 2 major universities in this state, they should abolish msu, re-incarnate as UM-Lansing campus (like Flint/Dearborn), every child growing up in 20 years will only be Wolverine fans. Wipe away all those "duplicate salaries" and inept administration -- keep UM Ann Arbor as the HQ, and together we can unite and defeat ohio forever in everything.
Just a thought.
Go Blue.
PS - I might run for governor.
