Looking for Kovacs Jersey
I am really looking for a 32 Jersey (youth medium,) i.e., Jordan Kovacs. This happens to be for my son, who wears 32 for his team (although he is playing DT.) Kovacs is an inspiration. Even though he isn't the biggest, strongest, or fastest guy, he always plays hard and plays smart. He wraps up the guys he tackles, and takes the right angles. I'd like to surprise my son with the jersey, ideally before or on the day of the Northwestern game (which will be his first game.)
Someone had a post about this on here recently, but I can't find it. I searched for "Kovacs Jersey," but it brings up a post from 2010, with no links to any jerseys. If any of you have one to sell, or know where I can find one to buy, I'd be most appreciative.

Can't you get one specially made from M Den? Or maybe that is just with a double zero as the number (which is lame) with whatever name you want on the back.

Despite this disclaimer:
"Though we do offer customization on some of our college jerseys, NCAA regulations prevent us from customizing a jersey with the name of a current or former player."
I was able to get a Mesko #41 jersey from here:
Best of luck Mr. Kass

In theory, could the Michigan football program get in trouble because a fan bought a jersey like that?
September 22nd, 2011 at 5:40 PM ^
I would think CBS would get in trouble. They have NCAA rules to follow and if they sell a jersey that doesn't go by NCAA rules, they should get in trouble, not Michigan.

I was able to snag a customized Brady #10 jersey. It was a few years after he left Michigan, but they don't seem to police it too heavily.
September 22nd, 2011 at 6:50 PM ^
I couls be wrong, but I think the rule only applies to players who are currently eligible to play for Michigan.
September 23rd, 2011 at 9:17 AM ^
you are wrong. it's current & former players.
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:02 PM ^
It seems that they have a search engine that recognizes unacceptable combinations. However, maybe I can get a jersey that reads "Kovaks" or "Kovac" or "Kovacks."
Since this is for a 10 year old, probably his own name could work if I can't find one that reads "Kovacs." I myself have never owned a jersey, and I'm not going to start now, but the rules are different for 10 year olds, especially if they're actually playing anyway. A jersey with your own name would probably work just fine.
September 22nd, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
Get a customized one from Mden. They might not notice the number and name combo and approve it. A custom sewn name and number jersey should be about $100. There's your best bet.
September 22nd, 2011 at 4:48 PM ^
I don't think that would work. Someone is probably responsible for noticing those kinds of things and plus, Kovacs doesn't appear to be a common name. Plus, everyone loves Jordan Kovacs and thus knows who he is.
September 22nd, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
Probably not but if you wanted one bad enough it's worth a try. My opinion is why have someone else's name on the back of your jersey if you could have your own? I got my name and number on mine and it is awesome
September 22nd, 2011 at 5:22 PM ^
Ya dude! Its just like your on the team!
September 22nd, 2011 at 7:37 PM ^
Oh god, I knew a kid who did that (big douche) and thought it was the sweetest thing ever. Bad idea. If you're going to shell out the dough for a jersey, get one that isn't so self-serving.
September 22nd, 2011 at 9:03 PM ^
I used to feel that way but I came around to it when I talked to a friend who had a customized one. His rationale was that he would be a fan of the team as a whole long after any particular player had moved on so he got a jersey he would always feel comfortable wearing.
September 22nd, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
Of course, he could just save a little money and not get a nameplate at all.
September 22nd, 2011 at 9:58 PM ^
We would do custom jerseys, but anytime a name was involved, we checked it against the current roster (the rule applies to current players only). We were pretty careful because, as the official retailer of the athletic dept., they could get in trouble if we sold something like that.
That being said, i'm sure other non M-Den businesses would put the name on.

Check out the few posts in this thread: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/moar-kovacs-walk-fluff-espncom-article
You might be able to get an Anthony Thomas jersey in that smaller size. It'll take some digging though.

So now we know Kass's son's name too! Your wife must really love alliteration, huh?
September 22nd, 2011 at 5:06 PM ^
Ban Kass from mgoblog! He gave out the personal information of a (soon-to-be) MGoUser!
September 22nd, 2011 at 5:35 PM ^
. . . and it made me laugh.
Oh, to live down one's mistakes. Father Time, you are so unkind to this flawed MGoMember. Alas, one makes his own bed and must thus sleep in it.
September 22nd, 2011 at 6:18 PM ^
As much shit as you took for that (and as funny as it is to make jokes still) I do think it had to be said in some form.
September 22nd, 2011 at 6:33 PM ^
Is this a correct statement:
You are the moderator of the mgoboard.
Do you have the power to ban people or drop the 500 point neg bomb?
I'm just not sure of the power that have been given to you. I though you might have over stepped your power/boundries when you told the poster to change his sig. If Brian gave you those powers then so be it, it is his world we have to live in it.
September 22nd, 2011 at 7:07 PM ^
Profit has the powers. For it has been proven.
September 22nd, 2011 at 7:12 PM ^
Cool. I'm glad that there is at least someone here to take the work load off of Brian.
September 22nd, 2011 at 8:40 PM ^
There's also Misopogon, Ace, Zone Left and Blue in South Bend. I assume Heiko and Mathlete have the ability to as well.
September 22nd, 2011 at 10:37 PM ^
If you are honestly unsure, Brian has a clear, bright-line rule that there are to be no political or religious discussions on the Board. The MGoMember in question has a signature that is a direct quote from the Bible. If that is not a direct violation of the "no religion" rule then I do not know what that violation would look like. Call me a strict constructionist, if you want. I am simply attempting to enforce the rules. As Brian suggested, I issued a warning because I presumed that he/she did not know better.

"let there be no discussion of religion"
And it was told to all the MGoUsers by prophetgoblue. Oops. Profitgoblue. My bad.
September 22nd, 2011 at 10:56 PM ^
That being said,
I completely agree with the no religion/no politics rules, and your enforcement of them.
September 23rd, 2011 at 12:35 AM ^
I just thought that it might have been harsh since it wasn't really a discussion but just a sig. Rules are rules and Ill follow them blindly.
September 23rd, 2011 at 12:57 AM ^
If we are being strict constructionists, isn't your signature a play on the "What Would Jesus Do" bracelets and could therefore be considered religous?
September 23rd, 2011 at 1:14 AM ^
Has to be a distinction in this case (and most cases) between referencing something that has to do with religion in a completely secular fashion and making an actual religious statement. I mean, hell, if we are getting rid of ALL references then I'm never refering to a deep pass as a hail mary again, for fear of visiting bolivia.
September 23rd, 2011 at 11:01 AM ^
I missed this thread, but I think that's taking it a little overboard. I don't see how that's a violation of the rule at all. There's definitely a difference between what someone puts in their sig and the topics that get discussed. The rule is for no "religious or political discussions." I just don't think that pertains to what is in someone's sig. By the way, I completely agree with Brian's rule. I love to discuss religion and politics, but this is a place to discuss sports.
And if you force that user to take the Bible verse out of his sig, shouldn't you force people to take out links to their blogs that discuss religious/moral topics? I've clicked on a few of them (and have enjoyed the thought-provoking posts), but shouldn't your logic be applied to those as well?

I'd like a clarification on one thing as regards discussion of religion. Every now and then, a player or coach brings up religion in a public context. This is not uncommon. For instance,
- Prior to the ND game, Mattison mentioned his faith orientation: "Was it weird when you went from Michigan to Notre Dame? “Yeah, it was hard. I can tell you that was hard because it was Michigan … you know, I can’t honestly say if I even really knew what a big rivalry that was. I never grew up being a Notre Dame fan. I’m a Lutheran, not a Catholic."
- Roh went on a faith based service trip, and in some of the interviews last week, there is a faith component.
- Denard regularly kneels in the end zone after scoring a touchdown.
-
In the mgoblue profiles of incoming Freshmen, many mentioned faith. For instance, Frank Clark, Pregame Ritual ... Prayers to the Lord. Brennen Beyer: Pre-game ritual ... Pray
The best football advice I ever received (and from whom) ... Play with all your heart, play as a team and play to honor the Lord - Dad. - Former strength coach Barwis ended up influencing several players to come to his church in the area.
I personally have noted these things, and have also deliberately chosen not to comment on them on Mgoboard. I think that the team in general does not proselytize or force their faith on anyone. However, to the degree that it is foundational to their identity, it is going to be expressed. Roh chooses to spend Spring Break serving others. Denard chooses to quietly give credit to God for the ability to score. Many of the team are upfront in sharing what their pre-game rituals are.
To the degree that their comments are in the public arena, and a significant part of who they are, it seems odd and artifical to say discussion about religion, as it pertains to the team and their priorities and choices, is off limits.
For regular readers, some will remember that faith is foundational to who I am from posts more than a year past. Having said that, I have basically chosen not to comment on that part of my life on this board. But I don't think it is wrong to talk about faith to the degree it is a clear and public part of the team.
September 23rd, 2011 at 2:37 PM ^
Good points. I guess it just depends on how far Brian and the mods want to take it. If they want to police and moderate every little mention, even if it is not a discussion, then so be it.
I just hope that I can keep my avatar.

I would think that discussion of that, within that context, would be fine, since it's within the context of Michigan sports. I think the purpose of Brian's rule is to avoid religious/political debates, which are inevitable in any public forum when you have such a large conglomeration of beliefs/worldviews/opinions. To that extent, I think the rule makes sense. Let's keep the discussions here focused on sports, and during football season, Michigan sports.

Thank you, I've got to be more careful.

Just get a KOVAOS jersey made and get the second O altered into a C. They'll unstich the letter O. Make a few cuts to make it look like a C, and restich it. Any alteration shop that knows what they are doing should be able to do a good job.

1) learn how to tattoo
2) open tattoo parlor
3) free tattoo to kovacs in exchange for jersey
4) wash jersey in cold water for 3 months

Out of the top five comments I've read on MGoBlog, I think you have two of them.

Soo you probably just googled Grit, but are you from Athens? That place is definetly one of my favorite places to eat.

I googled Grit. From Chicago, sorry

I have an old #32 from the 80s. Not even sure who that was - Hoard? Also, it says Michigan across the chest, which is odd.
edit: It was Jarrod Bunch. Awesome.

Kovacs is exactly the type of player I would want to teach young kids to play like. Always play hard, and always know your assignments.
September 22nd, 2011 at 6:25 PM ^
if it were an OSU jersey you could get hooked up with something right out of the locker room!
This is the price you pay for being a fan of a upstanding university.

I have a #37 jersey that frequently disappears from my closet. I see it about twice a year, never when I want to wear it. I think my wife keeps hiding it. If you could tell her to knock it off, I'd appreciate it.*
*Despite appearances, I'm not trying to be a dick. This post just reminded me of how I can never find my jersey and it freaks me out every time it reappears and then disappears again.
September 22nd, 2011 at 9:08 PM ^
I had written a post earlier this season about how before the Western game I went through the jerseys I own to decide which one I was wearing for the season. I settled on #32, but not because I was going to go out and buy one, but becuase of the ones I own, it is the one I want to wear this year.
Mine happens to be an old Nike #32, back from when Anthony Thomas wore the number. And no...you can't have it. :-)
Good luck in your search.
