[LOCKED] Baton Rouge, Michigan connection

...I strongly encourage anyone reading this to contact your PD and just talk about ways you can make your community safer. What can you do? What can the people in your family do? What can the police do? What can your entire community do to protect, educate, and grow with each other?

I understand that you can't necessarily stop a mad or sick person. I get that.

But if we're honest with ourselves - just because this madness may not be happening or EVER happen in your community (I pray that it never does), it doesn't mean you can't work on how to improve things. Hell, it doesn't mean that you can't confirm that you're already doing what you need to be doing and your police department is doing what it needs to be doing. No harm in a checkup. 

I've yet to find a perfect community. If you have, please share because I'd like to move.

So even if things are great, it's okay to talk about it...it's okay to work with your PD and make sure you're educating yourselves, your police department, and in turn, your community.

I did this last week, not to stir anything up. Not for media attention. Not to share on social media or MGoBlog. I just wanted to have a conversation so I can be part of the solution and make sure I'm not part of the problem. Thankfully members of our police department have some things in place and continue to do a great job protecting and serving our community. I hope my friends, collegues, neighbors do the same - it can only help if we're open minded, honest, and trying to do what we all know is right. It's 2016 we can't hide behind ignorance. R.I.P once again to Mr. Jackson and the other two officers who were murdered today.
