Livers underwent right foot surgery today
Release from UM; May affect Livers' decision to go pro since he wont be able to workout for the NBA draft.
That press release still sounds like one written about a former Wolverine rather than a present one.
”Livers played in 118 career games and was 13 points away from reaching 1,000 in his career...”
as opposed to:
”Livers has played in 118 career games and is 13 points away from reaching 1,000 in his career...”
Poor guy. Pretty similar to Charles Matthews situation. Just awful timing for guys who are fringe draft picks.
Why again did Matthews leave early?
I recall the difference being that Charles was injured after he declared for the draft during a workout with the Celtics. Had that not happened, he may have been a 2nd round pick.
Probably not. He had another year of eligibility.
Regardless of remaining eligibility, he more than likely would have been a 2nd round pick without the injury.
His game was not going to significantly improve with another year at college. It was the right time to make the jump and focus on skill development 24/7 which obviously can't happen in school
He’s coming back to go over 1000 pts
After seeing that 6 month recovery, he may very well come back.
Considering where he was originally projected, I think this is true. The injury probably knocked him out of the draft and it will be hard to get the NBA's attention if he leaves college (plus, it's hard to kick-start a career in Europe or elsewhere if you're injured).
Coming back would mean that he's healthy in time for next season and he could play his way back into the draft. We will probably be really good next year, so he'll have the advantage of the spotlight and possibly competing for a championship.
It really sucks for him that he probably anticipated becoming a millionaire in a couple months and now that's clearly not happening. I do think that coming back to Michigan is his best bet to realize that dream and, fortunately, that's also really good for us.
I also wouldn't be surprised if he enters the draft, isn't drafted, and then the Miami Heat pick him up for their G-league team. That's worked out pretty well for them and Juwan would probably advocate for him.
I wonder how the medical coverage works for outgoing seniors? Like, would it make sense to come back and have UM pay for all of his treatment and get to do it all at UM, even if he really doesn't have any intention of actually playing again?
I'd have to assume treatment for an injury sustained while playing for the school would be covered regardless. God knows it should be.
But I wonder why he had the surgery in Indianapolis instead of at U of M Hospital.
My guess is since he had the injury diagnosed and was there for 3 weeks, he saw a specialist while there. He probably felt comfortable with the doctor and decided to get it done instead of finding someone new.
It was a former Miami Heat Dr who did it. Juwan had to of hooked that up
"of"?
Try "have" there instead.
Sorry, I don't want to be the grammer police, but when it pertains to the improper use of the word "of", I can't help myself.
But as to your point, it makes a lot of sense that it may have been Juwan who suggested that particular doctor.
+1
Did you mean "grammar" police, Sheriff Rob?
LOL, busted by the spelling patrol.
+1 to you!
Obviously you were binge watching Frasier before you wrote the comment.
Pedants unite!
Dyslexics untie!
So...in time for next season? Welcome back, Zay!!!
Actually, it might make sense. Get some serious attention playing at Michigan, come back to a system that you know well. Be around friends and family (hopefully). Surely that's better than playing in Turkey or China...
He basically can't go full speed until October.
So no NBA workouts.
A reputation for being injury prone.
He was a mid second round pick if healthy.
He won't get drafted.
Please change your name,”officially!”
I fully agree.
One of the most negative posters on the board shouldn't be hijacking the good name of a Michigan student-athlete.
He's not injury prone. Tape still matters. You don't just go undrafted because you couldn't do the combine. A foot fracture is something that's easier to come back from than something like a ligament tear.
Fuck it. Have everyone come back. I can only imagine practices will the lethal.
Glad they got the right foot and not the wrong one. Best of luck to a genuinely nice guy.
Daaaaad!
As long as he can get on the good foot - Mr. Dynamite approves!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Isaiah! For any MGo docs out there - is 6 months a normal recovery time for a stress fracture?
We are going 2014-15 Kentucky and will two platoon our team:
Team A: Jackson, Chaundee, Wagner, Livers, Dickenson
Team B: Smith, Brooks, Houston, Diabate, Johns
So....you're putting Brooks on the 'B' squad while starting Zeb and Chaundee?
Balanced groups.
Don’t want to overload one squad
Well Wagner is most likely going pro.
That reminds me of the Red Wings of the 90s-00s.
Teams that couldn't handle the 1st Red Wing line had to wait for the future HOFamers on the 2nd line.
This would be a nice problem for Michigan and Juwan.
The Michigan training staff botched this.
What were they supposed to do? X-ray everyone's feet daily?
Livers acknowledged after the fact that he felt some pain during that last month but didn't think much of it until the pain worsened.
Wow. 6 months recovery. That's a long haul. Get well soon, Isaiah. You're in good hands from both a surgical and rehab standpoint!
Damn... that sucks for Livers...Good luck to the kid - hope for a full and speedy recovery!
I guess that opens some doors? He would have to enroll at Michigan in the fall if he were to come back next fall I'd assume...
uggh.
Was it disclosed how long he played on it? 3 games? I missed that.
Thought he said that it had bothered him since the end of December.
best of luck....
I feel like this means we are going to have livers again
This is so unfortunate. Get well soon, Isaiah.
