The Lions Hire....JT Barrett?

Mates,

Came across this one, just in:  The Lions hired JT Barrett to be an offensive assistant.  Not sure what he's going to help with given he only ran versions of RPO and never played a down in the NFL.  As a Lions fan I wish him well.  As a Michigan fan you smile and say "Detroit, the place where careers go to die"

One thing I hadn't kept track of but is interesting, Campbell has a boatload of former NFL types as his coaches: Barrett joins a Lions coaching staff full of former NFL players, including Campbell, Glenn, Duce Staley, Mark Brunell, Hank Fraley, Antwaan Randle El, Todd Wash, and Kelvin Sheppard.

It's the Lions, faking people out for 60+ years but hey, some year they might actually be good.  I will say that they finished fairly well last year and even when they were getting beaten they all seemed to play hard, no give up or loafing.  A good sign.

Have a great Saturday. It's summer time and the warm days don't last.

My season predictions

-Early close losses with a look of improving

-At least one ref job keeping them further from the .500 mark

-Injuries at key positions keeping us from reaching full potential

-A brutal stretch during the mid to later part of the season where we lose 7 of 9

-We finish strong winning the last 3 of 5 games losing a very high draft pick but showing signs of potentially being better next season

This was copied and pasted from my 2005 preseason post. It works for any year though.

It's not the Lions faking people out for 60+ years...It's the fucking Fords.

I can't stand Green Bay, but they got it right. The smallest market team in the middle of nowhere,  yet 300K plus fans publically own them and they wouldn't stand for the shit we've been through.

Not sure what running RPOs in college and not playing a down in the NFL has to do with being an offensive assistant.

Not all nfl coaches were players. I just hope he doesn’t think he’s going to be a QB coach, dude couldn’t hit a crossing route to save his life. I didn’t even know they were in our playbook when he was starting. He got worse as he got older,by his 8th year he couldn’t even hit a running back in stride coming out of the backfield let alone a short crossing route in stride. All those years I thought the crossing routes were just 8 yard curl routes, lol.

Doesn’t really matter what he ran or how great he was/wasn’t in college.  I was a short and slow D3 college player, but would like to think I made a pretty good HS coach… because I understood the game and worked hard.  Good for JT.  I hope he helps the Lions.

Sorry to be positive, I like the moves made by the Lions lately including this hire. I have no problems rooting for decent people off the field who happen to be Buckeyes and have moved on to play for the Honolulu Blue. Chris Spielman is one of my favorite Lions of all time. Would like to see #2 pick Jeff Okudah do something this year though...

And as bad as the Ford Family is in Lions ownership, they are nowhere near as incompetent as Chris Illitch and the Tigers, now in the cellar of the worst division in baseball.

Interesting hire, we'll see how it works out.

The Lions seem to be receiving a lot of summer hype from the media, but I still see them as a 4-13 or 5-12 team.
