Lions-Bears Open Thread

As close to a must win as you can get for the Lions this week. If they can't put up points on an awful Bears secondary, it's just not ever going to happen. Go Lions!

The Bears DO have an awful secondary.  Probably the worst in the league.

Which naturally means the Lions run the ball and then Stafford completely misses a wide open Calvin Johnson.

I would like to point out that the kid who sang the national anthem....that was rather impressive indeed. Well done.

...and just like that, two runs and a pass that don't go much of anywhere and we're punting. Hopefully, this isn't the trimmed down playbook.

Every year I try to convince myself that THIS will be the year when the Lions don't collapse in the second half of the season. I admire those of you who watch with no hope anymore. You are the lucky ones. December will be torture.

Fun fact!

I was at the infamous 1980 Thanksgiving game when the Lions snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as only the Lions can.  Up 17-3 with less than five minutes to go, with a 4th and inches from the Bears 40, with Billy Sims (a healthy, rookie Billy Sims I might add) in the backfield - the Lions punted and then never saw the ball again.  Long drive TD Bears.  Onside kick, recovered TD Bears.  And then the Bears return the kickoff in OT for a TD.

Good times.

that is Jim Caldwell this was going to happen. The guy is a terrible head coach. If not for Peyton Manning he would never have had a good record as a coach. He sucked at Wake Forest and he sucks here in Detroit.

Caldwell was the OC for the Ravens ast year, which IIRC was 29th in scoring offense. The Lions are now 28th in scoring offense. Caldwell has a long, tired history of a being a terrible coach everywhere (when he does not have de facto OC Peyton Manning). Just a boneheaded hire by the Lions from the beginning.
