I mean if you were that worried about this wouldn’t you have thought to block that point of view from being able to see in?

this is similar to the stadium bridge being able to see the u of m practice field.  If harbaugh wanted something a secret I’m sure they’d block that point of view

What are you talking about?

A student journalist is now supposed to be the head coach's Graham Couch? Get a life.

I would say that he or she was quite resourceful.  This was a public building.

And Riley is a Scott Frost level baby. Oklahoma has an indoor facility that they brag about all the time that they could use if it was that important. Riley is just using this as an excuse.

A resourceful student reporter was found by an unnamed janitor in the bathroom with the head stuck in the toilet. -- student newspaper reports.

Seriously though, it is not a big deal. I am not sure if there is any secret about OU. They just practice offense anyway and in B12 nobody plays defense. So, why would he care who sees what. Nobody is going to be able to stop them.

This isn't about hiding things from opponents, it's about protecting his team (read: QBs) from damage.  He's got a kettle of smoking oil on a gas stove because he pulled Rattler in the middle of a nationally known, popular rivalry game, and the entire nation watched the backup direct a fantastic comeback win.  He's trying to manage hurt feelings and maintain team unity in his QB room, and (probably) across the entire team.  And now the hometown school paper is spraying water into that kettle with this 'investigative' reporting.  In that story, Rattler's dad is already talking about transfer ('we'll see what happens after Jan 10th') - so this was a tough situation that now is a full-fledged kitchen fire.

However...  This is not the way to handle a tough situation.  I don't blame him for not allowing the QBs to talk to reporters after the game.  But you deal with hard things straight on - and Riley should have led by example in the aftermath.  He should have addressed it with an open kimono (not that anyone wants to see that).  Should have let the backup have his day in front of the cameras because he earned it (maybe some PR coaching beforehand).  Should sit down with Rattler and his family and discuss what happened and why.  Should sit down with his team and discuss what happened and why.

Maybe he's done these things privately?  I'd like to think he's smart enough to do so.  But he is not being a good leader in front of the media, here - he's shutting down and hoping it all goes away (which leads me to doubt the other things have actually happened).  Newsflash - it's not going to go away until its addressed head-on.  Someone turned the stove knob the wrong way - now that gas is flowing at full pressure and oil is splattering all over the kitchen...

Did he honestly believe that information was not going to get out somehow in this day and age? Even if the student paper hadn't done that, someone on the team was going to leak it to another student, family member, or friend, and it would have ended up on a message board or social media. See Roman Wilson injury last week for example.

Lincoln Riley conveniently uses the opportunity to ban all media. Dealing with the media (and not treating them all as children) is part of his job. Weasel move.

If we really need to litigate this a decade later, the issue with the Free Press article was their fundamental inability or unwillingness to understand the actual practice rules. The concept of "countable hours" was essential to understand the rules Michigan was breaking. Instead of correctly reporting how much Michigan went over (which came out in the NCAA report) they reported Michigan was more than doubling the allowable hours which they would have known was wrong if they understood what hours were countable. To my knowledge Rosenberg and Snyder never acknowledged this fundamental mistake.

Long story short, Michigan people are mad about the freep thing not because they reported that Michigan did something wrong but because they got it factually wrong in a way that was very negative for Michigan.

The freep intentionally wrote this story to firebomb the program. The questions they asked were to true fr, were goading them to say how hard they worked. Remember when they made those statements MSU players replied they stayed and practiced a lot more than that. Nothing from freep. Osu players said the same, nothing from freep. In fact, nothing from the NCAA to these programs or any other program that came out and Defended the Michigan Players as other Coaches did. It was a total hit piece, it was a fire bomb to hurt the program and for that, I still do not and will not acknowledge that paper.

From what I have seen and read, Tate has natural talent but isnt willing to put in the effort. He's probably received whatever he wanted his whole life with very little effort. When hes not willing to put in the work, 4th string on UNLV is what you get. Him transferring so many times is case and point....hes stomping his feet because hes not getting his way.

Lincoln Riley sucks for stuff like this. It's a public building, the kid didn't break any rules and got a scoop. If you want to have a true closed practice, go inside where you can block all eyeballs from being there. Plus there are 100+ teams and staffers at practice at any point. You don't think one of them might tell a roommate or parent who was getting first team reps?

This also isn't his first high profile screw up with getting mad at students for existing on campus. Everyone remember last year when he had the university put a film the windows of dorms that overlooked the practice field so the students couldn't see out of them?
