LeFevour to Battle Forcier for Hamilton Ticats 3rd String QB
Tate Forcier already beat out two other rookies for the 3rd string QB on the Hamilton Ticats team. Now he will have to compete with former CMU standout QB Dan LeFevour:
With Henry Burris firmly entrenched as the starter and Quinton Porter the No. 2 man, LeFevour will battle with Tate Forcier — the only QB holdover from the initial crop of three rookies — for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart. The Ticats are hoping that spot will eventually produce a legitimate CFL starter.
Kudos to Forcier for beating out the two rookies. It should be quite a battle with LeFevour for that last QB position. May the best man win.
Glad to know I am not the only one keeping a close eye on the 3rd string QB battle for a CFL team.
The Ticats are one Quincy Carter signing away from making this a really interesting summer.
Should he really get kudos for that? What's the competition like among CFL rookie QBs? Were the other people even D1 talents?
Former Alabama and Rice QB Nick Fanuzzi was one of the other rookies. He did yeoman work on a crappy Rice team and had a decent completion % and TD/Int ratio:

You should at least recognize LeFevour's name, as he put up some ridiculous numbers as a 4-year starter at Central Michigan a few years ago.
LeFevour was one of the best MAC QBs in recent memory, and was the architect of CMU's upset of MSU some years ago. Heck, MGoBlog even had a thread about it.
LeFevour is an interesting comp to Forcier. Both system QB's and similar skills, but LeFevour was a more durable runner and appears to have a better control of...life. I enjoyed watching both of them play.
Wearing the number of the last man who stole his job for motivation?
Stole his job?
He took heees jerb!
In actuality, talent levels aside, DR worked harder and just wanted it more.
Don’t think any of us foresaw going into that 2nd year that DR would be as exciting as he is, or that Tate would have to be chided into putting in the summer workout time.
Catch the Fever baby! (I miss college)
Honestly if he loses out here - then what?
Is his football career over?
Now that he has lost his amateur status, college is no longer an option.
I never thought so much could ride on a 3rd string CFL battle, but Tate really could lose all hope of playing the game (let alone playing in the NFL) if he can't beat out LeFevour.
At least he'll have more time for, ahem, "recreational" things?
Fire Up Chips!
We were wondering what ever happened to my boy! Really thought he had what it was going to take at the next level! Tate? Not so much!
LeFevour isn't drawing a NFL salary, really? I figured the guy would get steady backup work.
Teams would rather use roster spots for guys like Tebeau because, you know, Timmy knows how to win. Dan doesn't. There it is: big difference.
I thought LeFevour got drafted
How are both of these guys not higher on the depth chart? Who could they possibly have is that much better.
I can't imagine that every team in this league has 2 QBs on it's roster that are better than Forcier and LeFevour. I would think both could be backups (at least).
How much is the salary for the average 3rd string QB in the CFL? How much is it for 2nd and 1st stringers?
It looks like the minimum is $30,000. Average is around $50,000, with a team cap of $4.35m.
God we miss Dan LeFevour up here......
Henry Burris is 37 years old, so whoever wins this backup QB battle will have a shot at the starting position sometime in the next couple seasons.
As an aside, I remember when Burris started a few games for the Bears as a rookie. I don't know if I've ever seen a NFL QB look more overmatched (35.3 completion percentage, etc.).
