Probably should have seen this coming... Basketball season in less than four weeks.

OK - but some things you can't argue with - we have very few guys we are losing, many who are very young and should improve, and a great recruiting class coming in. Make a list of who we're losing starting with the hardest to replace, and the list gets iffy after just a few guys. Lewan would be at the top, but we played without him for 2/3 of the game yesterday anyway. And we only have three seniors starters on D, really only 4 on O. And then think about how much better our young guys will be. Take Kyle Kalis, and think of him a little bigger and stronger, and a lot smarter and more disciplined. Or Chris Wormley who was the bulk of our pass rush yesterday.

I agree with that but my issue is how much these guys are being coached up. Hoke is a great recruiter but I can't honestly say some of the top talent we've pulled in is being coached up as well they should be. Looking at other teams around the country, they have younger guys playing at a high level. How can our O-linemen get mauled by Akron? I dont expect us to be worldbeaters at this point but something is wrong when Akron/Uconns are pushing us around.

He only has 2 recruiting classes on campus.  Other teams around the country do not have amount of young players playing significant roles that we do.  its one thing to lean on freshmen or sophmore WRs or DBs.  Its quite another to do it with O-lineman and D-lineman.

Don't count UConn. Although they're not a good team all around, they have a very good defensive line, especially their tackles. We knew that was going to be a bad match up for us. I'll give you Akron, I'm really not sure what the problem was there, but every other team we've struggled with up front has talent there - ND has Tuitt and Nix, Minnesota has Hageman and Penn State has DaQuan Jones (and we were without Bryant and Lewan for much of the game). I'm not saying our OL isn't a problem, but outside of that we have young players who are playing pretty well for young guys. Unfortunately, they're still young guys.

extend beyond the offensive line (although thats where we are the worst). Everyone critiized RR for not adjusting to the personnel he has. How is that any different for Hoke/Borges in theird third year? Hoke's game management has been shotty since 2011 season. Never once did I question Hoke's abilities and frankly I'm not one to say "Fire Hoke" as I think he needs another year. However, Funk/Borges are not good by any means. They get paid millions and fair/not fair, you get held accountable for results.

There really isn't a position group on the team playing poorly outside of the OL (unless you count QB, which would be hard to argue with).  Fewer mistakes from DG and we're undefeated and looking good.

I don't mind Hoke's game management save a few things here and there.  I agree with you that Borges needs to be held accountable and I think he needs to be shown the door.  I've had patience with him and that's all gone now.

Your HC is always going to be either a defense or offense oriented guy, and whichever he is, he needs an A+ coordinator for the other.  We don't have that.  We need a Mattison-level OC for this to go as well as we want it to.

I agree with this and thats why to your point, we need to have an offensive coordinator who can hold his own. Borges resume isn't all that impressive. That said, i don't know who would be a good OC to hire.

As far as position groups go, I'd put RB as questionable. To be fair some of it is on OL, but is it 100% on the line? I don't know. On the defense, DL and LB are OK - still seeing missed tackles something Hoke preaches so I would expect this to be better than it is. Secondary in my opinion is a weak link. No position group stands out at me as a strength of this team that other teams will have a hard time gameplanning against.

Nor should we be. Our offense should be a lot better than it is. A ton of teams would kill to have the players we have. An Oline with Lewan Schofield and Kalis at another school would be tearing it up. We need a coach to come in and do for our offense what Mattison did for our defense in year one.

It's no big deal. I'm still a fan and will continue to be. I have a good feeling that this team will continue to get better. It doesn't mean we won't lose some games, though.

Georgia?!??!? Seriously??? Get real!! They lost to Clemson and Missouri, almost lost to Tennessee(!!) and beat LSU and S Car whatever. Yet, they are still in the top 15. This is ridiculous!! And Missouri moving up to 14 from unranked?!? Are you fucking kidding me. Miami at 10?? Texas Tech at 16?? OK State at 21? Where's Utah???

Fuck this CFB season. I'm done.

They lost the season opener at #3 Clemson and had like half the team injured yesterday.  They are easily the most impressive two loss team right now.  I don't know why Texas Tech is ranked higher than Northern Illinois, but whatever.  I guess Texas Tech is located close enough to SEC territory that they must be good.

Rankings are dumb to me right now.

We shouldn't be ranked. Anyone think the oline looked better after Lewan went out? And anyone notice how many snaps jmfr had? Seems he had an impact on every play he was out on the field.

I've read through quite a few of the threads and, just, wow... Anyway, something that is really interesting is that it seems like the % of "we" vs "they" has increased a ton. IE before this game I read a lot of "we really need to..." Now a ton of those are saying "they don't deserve to..." Seriously guy, it took 2 Hail Marys and three misses by our money FG kicker on top of a few extremely questionable calls. The sky isn't falling, that game didn't change my opinion of them at all - high ceiling but capable of letting anyone stay in the game and/or beat us.

Agreed. It's amazing how crazy people get after one loss. It's almost like people are fans so that they can complain. Isn't being a fan supposed to be a positive thing? It seems like being a fan is a horrible experience for most of these people.

I love the optimism and wish for more of it on this board as opposed to calling for everyone's head. We are a solid team that is fun to watch but this is the nature of the beast, someone has to win and lose. Lets go Blue and Eat em up Tigers!!

Well, if you're curious and like numbers, here's how the votes shook out:

16th - 1 vote

18th - 2 votes

19th - 1 vote

20th - 3 votes

21st - 3 votes

22nd - 5 votes

23rd - 6 votes

24th - 4 votes

25th - 6 votes

Unranked - 29 votes

Among those who did rank Michigan, the average position was 22.19, which is 4.76 places lower than the average position last week. For all the 438 votes cast with Michigan on a ballot, our average position on the year is 16.406, down almost 0.5 from last week. Anyway you slice it, quite the tumble.

or maybe even Indiana.  We turn the ball over more than anyone in the conference, we CANNOT run the ball except for Gardner when a play breaks down.  And Gardner accuracy is seriously questionable.  Every year since RR arrived, we hear, 'this team is young, wait until 20xx...'  Earlier this year we heard this team is young, wait until 2015 and we'll be great.  Every class looks great on paper, but they aren't developing into the 'great' teams or players we're told to wait for.

I see 7-5 or 8-4 at best and OSU will be the class of the conference for athe next two years.  They keep reloading like Bama and we keep re-building.  Sparty has a much better defense and Indiana has a better offense.  We are at best middle of the division.

unless you are rated high early and maintain it. Otherwise, who cares, you are just an also-ran.

Next week, the BCS rankings come out, and they'll change the other rankings based on the outcome of the Fla State-Clemson game.

Does anyone really care whether Nebraska is ranked ahead of Michigan or that MSU hasn't been ranked, when its defense is seemingly the best in the country, but it hasn't played any ranked opponent outside of ND, which it lost to and Michigan beat by 11.

I know this, Michigan will struggle with every team it plays this season, uless something changes. They have no shot at beating MSU in EL unless they upgrade their attitude about succeeding on the road, and playing with an edge and grit. Because the Spartans will be out for blood and they will try to knock them out. That's just the way it is.
