I've always called it a "Legg Goal".  I was at Yost a few years ago and they brought him back for a reunion and he picked up the puck like that and shot it all the way down the rink through the little hole in the score-O thing.  I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it.

You were there? Wow, congrats to you. What's even more incredible is that Marty Turco and Brendan Morrison both scored prior to Legg to make it a trifecta (keep in mind that while Morrison was the Hobey Baker winner back in '96, Turco was the goalie). Seriously, the video is jaw-dropping. I think my favorite part is Legg blowing kisses to the crowd as he rides off on Turco's and Morrison's shoulders:

As a subscriber to The Hockey News, every time someone does this type of goal or they talk about this type of goal, they always call it The Michigan. Officially it’s called a lacrosse goal but nobody really calls it that when it happens

I don’t know if Mike Legg was the first to do this type of goal but he made it famous

NHL Tonight just teased it up: “…and we got a MICHIGAN GOAL

Edit: “…it might be the best MICHIGAN GOAL I’ve ever seen in the NHL.  Top 10 goal this year

Such a wonderful thing to see but especially since it happened in Columbus and was scored by a Michigan player Kent Johnson.

I may end up watching it about 45-23 more times...

In the NHL, some were beginning to call it the Zegras Goal after Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks whose "lacrosse goal" on this play was disallowed for offsides. It would've been his third Michigan Goal of his NHL career.

FUN FACTS: Trevor Zegras played one season at Boston University before turning pro with the Ducks. Current Boston University senior Wilmer Skoog  who is undrafted by NHL teams has scored four Michigan Goals during his collegiate career. LINK Start at about 1:30 of this clip to see Skoog score one of his Michigan Goals.

LINK to another one of Wilmer Skoog's Michigan Goals that the announcer called a "Skoog".

I feel a bit bad for Bill Armstrong who was the first guy to do it.  He just never did it anywhere people were watching.

The fact that Legg has the balls to bust that out in an NCAA tournament game is insane.
