Not sure if this is him staying committed and still exploring or just completely decommitting. Regardless, he’s a recruit that Michigan will have to continue to recruit him if they want him to be part of the class

He did have an outstanding Freshman year at Texas gaining almost 1000 yards receiving. It would be interesting to hear his thoughts about his decision to go to Texas after a few beers now seeing where Michigan is vs his current team.

Regardless, individual talent doesn't win championships. A total team effort does. And we are finally witnessing it after so many years of disappointment. This is a blessed football team.

"I don't think it was much of his choice though right? He had some issues with the admissions department at UM."

Do we know that?  There's been some smoke on this blog suggesting that Worthy was never all-in and was always looking around for other options.  Perhaps there were some basic requirements that he was asked to fulfill, and he never followed through.  I don't know one way or another.  It just seems like blaming UM admissions was a convenient way to pile on the program during a point of low morale, when there are likely two sides to the story.

Going to Texas probably didn’t help his chances as far as being able to win something of note in college, but it more than likely helped his chances (so far) of getting his name put out there for NFL scouts.

He’s in a very pass-happy offense that will continue to find ways to get him the ball so he can make plays. NFL teams will likely not care too much about whether he won the Big XII or made the CFP if he shows he can make plays. Otherwise guys like Stefon Diggs would not have been drafted that high. So he’s setting himself up to get drafted high in a few years.

On the other hand, While Michigan does throw the ball, that is not what the offense is predicated on, and there currently is not a “standout” guy in the receiver corps. It’s a collective group effort. So no one has any eye popping stats.

Not saying he should feel one way or the other about his decision, but if he told me he was happy and had no regrets about his decision, I wouldn’t blame him. He may end up putting himself in a better position for a professional career by being where he is, simply due to the fact that he’s in an offense that will get him the ball more often than if he was here.

What he did this year shows he came in ready to run good routes and work.  If he had been at Michigan, he would clearly have gotten off to a great start - after Bell went down, he would have been the best route runner on the team.  That, coupled with his apparent work ethic, catching skills, and athleticism would have put him in the #1 WR spot immediately.  (I say 'work ethic' because you don't get ~1000 yds as a true freshman without putting in some effort to learn the playbook.)

Now, McNamara's slow start in the passing game limits things, but he would have been the clear #1 option and a constant deep threat here.

AGREED

What receivers like Worthy do is spread that field out, make it more to defend, opening it up for everybody--particularly a young QB who clearly was breaking into the game himself.

What it would have also done is give you a Big Play guy who can help put the deathnail into teams instead of them hanging around.

Nobody's fault here--We all knew Michigan was pretty much beginning from scratch this year--different coaches, philosophies, and putting a bunch of weight on (McNAMARA) the shoulders of guys who had to be tossed into the pool to see if they could swim. And THEN we lost Bell.

Going forward--Johnson had a breakout year; All was sensational and LUKE looks like The Man at tight end (I do not know about All's eligibility. Andrel Anthony has a world of potential and looks like an anchor at WR, Sanristil, Roman Wilson--

We lost Worthy, and maybe Michigan goes 13-0 to this point with him, but others came of age in a HUGE way.

The only thing I'd add about Worthy is--would he be the one to take UM over the hump against UGA or Bama??

It could be the guy he built the closest relationship with. It’s all about relationships which is why it’s not uncommon to see the wrong position coach as a primary recruiter. There are a lot of people these recruits get connected to and all of them can be the reason someone commits

Man, that "seriously" feels like you are angrily dismissing a plausible reason for a change in heart.  What else has changed in the past week? Its entirely reasonable to think it could at least be a factor.

And yeah, someone could be bummed that the guy who possibly was the first to reach out to him, or a guy who he spent time getting to know and had a relationship with, decided to leave the school he just committed too. Morgan may not be an on the field coach, but that doesnt mean that the second the season starts he never talks to any of the current players ever again. I'm sure he has good relationships with many players and that some guys on the team are bummed to see him go because he meant something to them.

I said seriously because it seems like superficial conclusion. Recruiting coordinators do little recruiting and a lot of bureaucratic stuff. The player was recruited by his position coach and the defensive coordinator, per 247. Morgan doesn’t go on recruiting trips/calls. How often do you see recruits credit their recruiting coordinator? It’s not how it works.

Well, in Alex's front page Recruiting Post today, he says Kevonte Henry is wavering " due to the loss of Courtney Morgan, who was central in his recruitment ($)."

But Morgan or another Recruiting Coordinator couldn't possibly have any effect on a player deciding to come or stay, right? Thats not how it works.

I dont think 247 ever lists recruiting coordinators on player pages for recruiting them, just coaches so I dont think that is the evidence you think it is that a guy like Morgan wouldn't play a big deal in a player coming to UM.
