Joe Lunardi's latest post has a message for Michigan fans

Submitted by Wahlberg on

I was just looking over Lunardi's latest projections and it starts off with this disclaimer:

And Michigan fans, in case you're panicking right now, the Wolverines do not appear on this page because Joe Lunardi feels they are safely in the field.

Way to punch that ticket boys! Now let's go take out OSU and complete their terrible week!!!

Being a Michigan grad and an Ohio resident I did the only thing I could think of before leaving the office today.  I bet everybody (and i do mean everybody) that Michigan would win tomorrow and I told them their shitty week from hell was about to become exponentially shittier.

Glad to see us as far away from that play-in game nonsense as possible.  His numbers seem a little off (can't really have UTEP and Memphis out since somebody from C-USA is getting an automatic bid) but otherwise it doesn't look like we're in much danger at all considering we almost certainly can't be put lower than teams like Clemson, MSU, Illinois, etc. at this point.

This Rivals bracket had Michigan as an 11 this morning:

The 9's in that bracket are Missouri, UCLA, Villanova (all made early exits in their conference tourney), and Illinois (who we just beat today).  The 10's are Marquette (lower RPI than us and out of Big East tourney), Gonzaga (lower RPI than us and done with season), Georgia (just lost today in SEC quarters), and Tennessee (crappy record and underdog tonight in SEC quarters).

Definitely looks like we could rise quite a bit with wins over OSU and whoever we might play in the finals.

Nope.  If we win the BTT, that means we will have finished the season winning 11 of our last 14 (only losses to OSU, ILL and bank-shot Wisco).  It means we finished the season on a 5 game winning streak, beating 4 tournament teams in that stretch, including the #1 team in the country.  It means we won the top conference's tournament.  We would be HOT and they put a lot of weight into how a team's playing entering the tourney.  We'll probably never find out, but I think we'd be a 6 seed.

More importantly, historically the committee seeds teams that go on tournament runs in the major conferences higher than they would normally deserve.  I think the Beilein West Virginia Elite Eight team went from bubble to like a six and I don't think they won the Big East tournament, only made the final.

They were 7-9 in the big east, siting right on the bubble and went on a 4 game streak to get to a 5 seed.  You make exellent points.  We are a 6-7 seed if we beat OSU and Wisky over the weekend.  There isn't a lot separating 6-12 seeds.  A BTT championship would put us at the front of that group.

I won't relax until I see Michigan in the bracket on Sunday night (or we win the Big 10 tournament).  However, at this point, it would really be a screw job if we don't make it.

Who was that douche doing the color who when the Lunardi screen came up said Michigan is certainly out and spent at least the second half talking about how shitty we are - I had to go mute so I'm sure I missed some good stuff but he was killing me...

Dan Dakich, former Bowling Green coach (and short-lived interim coach at IU).  I wouldn't say he was saying how shitty Michigan is, but he seemed pretty off in a few of his opinions/statements, specifically the one where he thought Michigan was out of the tournament because he didn't see us on the Last In/Last Out list.  Dan Shulman did seem a little puzzled that Dakich thought we were definitely out coming into the game.

EDIT: Wow, I must have left this tab open for about 15 minutes before replying.  Haha, I'm an idiot.

Now let's take the next step and stick it to blow-su! I'm pumped about this team and how resilient they've been, especially because of their youth. The future for Michigan basketball is bright!
