Jim Harbaugh Monday Presser, full video

Submitted by SkyPanther on

I loved the big play(Nico Collins)... did a great job tracking the ball...

QB was accurate... Oliver Martin had a big play...

We really like our tight ends... 3rd down conversions we had to our tight ends, they blocked well...

The thing about it the most (with Shea Patterson) was his accuracy... only had the one penalty at the beginning of the 2nd half(delay of game), no more from him...

Dylan McCaffrey.... he's got that ability, to be cool under pressure... stepped up nicely in the pocket... pulled his own read... took care of the football, was able to run the offense without any miss calls, or formation issues... I asked him how he was doing... he said he was having fun...

A loss hurts, hurts your body...

Came out well from a physical standpoint... 24 to 48 hours we'll be back to full speed...

I think the way we played this game is the way we'll play the next game with the offensive line....

Karan was running well... was seeing the holes... a couple of nice blocks... used Chris in the second half... both equally good...

The team believes in each other...

"Why the slow snaps in the last 2 minutes?" Yeah, that's something we can improve... we had a way of getting the snap in the crowd noise... we didn't want to have more than one way of doing that in the first game (with a new QB)... We'll add layers to that as we go along...

Talking about the Braylon Edwards tweet? First of all it's not true. It's not factual... It's disappointing to have a member of the BTN would choose to attack the character of two of our players....

(Western they're) very aggressive. We saw that against Syracuse...

His response about the 2 minute drill is disappointing. High school teams run better 2 minute drills, new qb or not. They had months to prepare. If we lose a close game to a big ten team because of time, it will be disastrous. Imagine if Shea had 2 mins on the clock instead of 1. Maybe he's more likely to throw the ball away on a broken play instead of holding on to the ball too long?

HS teams don't play in front of 85k screaming hostile fans either. Obviously it could be a lot better, and actually I thought it was more the general pace than specifically the snap count, but the conservative approach to snapping the ball isn't indefensible either. They had no false starts in the opener in a hostile environment with a new QB and center, which is pretty impressive.

Thanks for posting this. Thankfully there is people willing to do this for those of us that still like to come here for our Michigan News. Brian should think about giving you a stipend.

SkyPanther, I wish these guys weren't being such jerks to you.. you really provide great content and you should seriously think about having your own website.. these guys don't deserve you. I mean if you were the troll like they are saying you are why would you bother to track down all this great content? I mean you are getting content up here even before the people that run this blog. Think about it man!!

Hi Sea

I have to say, I misread you a few weeks ago. My response then was out of line. Really sorry bout that.

----------

Yeah, I have considered getting my own web site. If I had more time I would do it. There's lots of stuff I don't even post.

---------

About those trolls, I've been pretty much ignoring them. But a couple of them are starting to get strange. I guess they're unhappy. Even if they weren't trolling me, they'd do it to someone else. I forgive and move on.

Seasons got a long way to go. I’m still a believer that Harbaugh will get this teamed turned around and will surprise everyone by the end of the season. Go Blue!

Having both witnessed how pathetic OSU, PSU, MSU, can look in their first game/test of the season, we should ALL know better than to judge the season by just the opening game.

The lose hurt, was disappointing, and the team felt like it lacked an identity.

But again, many, many teams have turned around a lackluster opener (which was road, night, one-score, bad-breaks, new QB, lost in the last seconds btw. etc) into a great--even championship--season.

And if it's been done before, then it can be done again.

The talent is absolutely there.

Exactly. Not welcome with the type of attitude regarding the program and players that he has displayed. I don't care what you did vs MSU in 2000 whatever. What matters now is how you handle yourself as a professional in your field, and how you represent the University that gave you the opportunity to be successful. Neither of those two things at this point in time are anything to be proud of.

I seemed to get the sense in the first half of the game, there wasn't enough urgency. Notre Dame came out on fire. Michigan was knocked back on their heels.

I realize it was at Notre Dame, and it was a "green out". But there should have been a higher level of emotion coming out of the gate from Michigan.

I did like, however, after the emotion wore off for Notre Dame, Michigan started looking like the better team.

I did seem to see urgency when Dylan McCaffrey was in. But, that was the team pulling together with the #1 QB out. But still, it was my favorite part of the game. I saw a bright potential future for Michigan with McCaffrey at QB.

Please Harbaugh, let Jim Mc/Ed Warinner take over OC Game Planning/OC play calling? The offense vs ND looked like it was being called not to lose rather than to win. Your Coaching expertise is needed in many facets of the game this Team needs to improve.

This is the worst thing that could happen..

Our problem wasn't with the game plan it was with execution and blocking.

Average 3rd down distance in the first half: 4.3 yards and that is including one 3rd and 10 that Patterson took an 8 yard sack on the 2 yard line. If you throw that out our average third down in the first half was 3rd and 3.

If there’s one thing that I think Jim Harbaugh does well, it’s game plan. Not every game is perfect, but we have seen mostly very good, and certainly some elite game planning. the prime example of that is last year’s Ohio State game. That was a genius game plan that worked but for the worst performance ever by a quarterback.  The Notre Dame game plan really wasn’t bad. There were a few questionable play calls, yes, but the game plan itself was good.

A sign of his NFL experience because no coach survives in the league without great understanding of schemes and game planning.

The other thing: JH keeps games close which is another NFL trait. Urban has 2 31-point losses in the last 15 games plus a 15-pt loss. Dantonio has losses by 45 pts and 20 pts in the last 15 games.  Those are two excellent coaches with excellent seasons that included beat downs. Everything went wrong in the first quarter and UM still lost by 7; UM had 5 TOs and TDs over turned and lost by 4 to MSU.

It’s frustrating to lose those games and especially when UM has a shot at the end, but the program has to learn to make key plays to turn those losses into wins. Players must have the resolve to execute opportunities. Hawkins must intercept that ball; Hart must handle the snap; Gil must make the sack; Shea must throw away at the 2; Gentry must snag the TD pass. It’s simple - and yet it’s hard.

Maybe JH just needs to hire a team psychologist ...

This X 1000. Thank you for this post.

I think JH needs to take over 100% of the OC duties and put the rest of the gang securely into lesser roles. I:E Pep, QB coach, JM, WRs Coach etc.

I think JH has been resistant to doing this because he feels it takes away from his ability to “manage” the program as HC. Which probably is true in reality but I think he needs to make it work with himself as OC.

Hey don't you have a four year old championship to celebrate; sorry Ohio women have to get beat for it, but, hey championships ......ya know;)

I just hope nothing ever happens to your mother/sister/wife/daughter/cousin..... and I say that since I realize she's the same person.

solidsmeef... the best thing you could do, instead of venting on a blog. trying so hard to show everyone how smart you are because your day got ruined watching michigan football. try this, when you deliver harbaughs newspaper in the morning, get off your bike, walk up to his door and knock. when he answers explain to him what he is doing wrong and find out directly from him why he doesn't care anymore, you will feel better.

I;m not sure we need to replace Jim Harbaugh.

But the only name I would want right now is Kevin Wilson. And giving Jim McElwain the OC job.

But I think we have to wait and see where this year goes.

Ed Warinner had O Line problems his first game at Ohio St too. He quickly shaped up the line.

But I think we've seen enough of the passing game to know a change needs to be made there.

I find this video disturbing.  This doesn't seem like the football crazed Harbaugh from 2015.  Seems far to content with mediocre results.  Last year I could see him being patient with a young team.  This year, the expectations are....errrr....were... too high...

This is a coach at the end of his rope. I'm not sure what else is going on in his life, but his top priority is not preparing or coaching the Michigan football team, rather a club of ex friends, family members who seem to be ok with being mediocre.
