Barnes did switch his commitment much earlier in the process, but if a kid can switch his commitment a week before signing day, a team can, too. I know it sounds harsh, but if you have a chance to get an immediate-impact type of guy in place of...uhh...just "Some Guy", you make it happen. Anyway...there are still some qualifying issues, and if Terry Talbott wants to go elsewhere, perhaps his brother will follow him... There's still room for movement.

I'm more excited about Black than I am about any other defensive recruit we have coming in. Forget rankings. Watch this kid's tape. It's like Brandon Graham deja-vu. He's going to play, right away, Roh-style. ...we needed defensive recruits, and we got them. well done rich-rod, well done (especially considering the 8-16 record). NT: Talbott? DT: Ash, Paskorz DE: Black, Wilkins Q: Rogers, Ryan MLB: Kinard WLB: Furman SLB: Robinson FS: Parker?, Johnson SS: Knight?, Vinopal CB: Christian, Talbott? CB: Avery QB: Gardner, Jones SB: White, Hopkins WR: Miller, Robinson WR: Jackson SR: Dileo, Williamson SR: Drake? LT: LG: C: Pace RG: RT:

He's right. True freshman shouldn't be playing. Didn't you hear any of RR's comments this season about how it's not ideal to be playing freshman? If you disagree that's perfectly acceptable, but use your words and write a few sentences; afterall, that is the point of this board.

I think calling his tape BG deja vu is wishful thinking at best. Did you even watch BG in high school? These two kids didn't even play the same position so there is no comparison. BG played middle linebacker and was a top 20 recruit. He was an absolute monster who made every play for his team's defense. He was a fucking All-Detroit kicker for christ's sake. From wikipedia: "In one game, he posted twelve tackles, four sacks, four forced fumbles, two blocked punts and scored on a 78-yard fake punt." "For his athletic excellence, Graham received many honors. Among the recognition he received are Parade Magazine All-American, EA Sports All-American, USA Today All-USA High School All-America first team (No. 14 player in the nation by USA Today), Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year, first player from the state of Michigan to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, 2005 Detroit News No. 1 Blue Chip prospect, and No. 2 on the Detroit Free Press Best of the Midwest rankings.[1] Additionally, he was recognized as one of ten top prep athletes in Michigan in 2005-2006, including men and women from all sports, as a 2006 McDonald's-Powerade Tomorrow's Winners honoree at the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame dinner." Let's not get carried away.

This is where we need THE KNOWLEDGE to step up and tell us how Michigan can keep the Talbotts' and all the other recruits, plus get McKnight and Parker, plus a few other signing day surprises. KNOWLEDGE WHERE ARE YOU?

Hopes Mr. Gholston sees that were putting together the best d line in this recruiting class and switches over to the only great team in Michigan. Lets go Blue, and finish this class off with Parker (please)!

Way to just shit on a kid. What leads you to believe that Ryan was not a smart offer? Please explain yourself mister college football expert. Ryan is a sleeper who will be a good player in a position of extreme need. His "stars" do not indicate the type of player he will be, as he was injured his junior year. Scouts are just ow starting to pick up on the fact that this kid is a player.

He played his entire senior year and half his junior year. He was all-Ohio at one of Ohio's most visible schools. What about this gets you thinking scouts overlooked him and why would they only start to realize their mistake after football season had been over for months? There's no reason to think Ryan's rating was the result of inadequate scouting. Let's just accept his rating and hope he outperforms it.

Question: "What about this gets you thinking scouts overlooked him and why would they only start to realize their mistake after football season had been over for months?" Answer: Allen Trieu from Scout said so. So...you should probably rescind this entire post.

I can't read the Scout article you're referencing, but I really find what I'm told Trieu said hard to believe. How can you miss a dude who's all-Ohio playing for St. Ignatius? And it's not like he wasn't ranked. He was, so it's not like they never made an evaluation. It doesn't make sense.

Wouldn't it be MORE embarrassing for Trieu, who works for Scout, to say that they didn't even know about him? I mean, he could have said, "Yeah, Jake Ryan just isn't very good, so we gave him 3 stars and nobody paid much attention to him." Instead, he admitted kind of an embarrassing thing - the recruiting experts at Scout didn't know about him. I don't see why that would be a lie.

So possibility #1: Ryan wasn't ranked by Scout before he visited and was only subsequently reviewed and given a ranking. In other words he would only have been ranked after scout had "learned" about him and so we'd have no reason to think their ranking was made out of ignorance. Possibility #2: Ryan was ranked by Scout before the visit in which case they did know about him and what Trieu said is false.

is EXACTLY what happened, he didn't even have a profile until he committed to Michigan. as for why scouts didn't know about him; he missed half of his junior year with a knee injury and didn't do any national camps or combine the following summer. on top of that his teammate mcvey committed so early and solidly to osu that no one had a reason to come by the school

St. Ignatius had 4 BCS commits this year including Ryan and McVey. The other guys committed to Pitt during and after the season. The services still should have been sending guys to evaluate.

Too many good players, so the scouting services went to scout those players. Ryan didn't emerge until later in the year and by that time the recruiting services were done scouting Ignatius. There really wasn't any reason to keep scouting Ignatius over and over again and they probably felt that they had covered all their bases with that particular school.
