So was the last ESPN report on the sexual abuse cases at MSU, and look how far that went. What relevant quotes came out of this report? The kid that was approached by Izzo was Steve Smith son, and he is also a good friend of the player being accused. Nothing will come of this, mark my words.

I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise. Izzo has been pulling this crap for years. Nothing will happen to him.

Ive been saying for a :LONG LONG time that Izzo was involved with this and now its been proven right..JUST like Mork Dantini he has a cozy relationship with local law enforcement who were basically coverin g for any MSU athlete who got in trouble and there were ALOT...He is complicit in ALL of the shennanigans and when this is all proven in court should RESIGN...it really is a disgrace what bothy coaches did

So the guy was kept on the team after this incident, and now he's being accused of another rape? Hay-zoos Christo Izzo is so much bigger than anybody else on that campus it is sickening. Don't send your daughters to MSU. They are not safe.

The way they will probably spin this (I live in Lansing btw).  is that Izzo was calling to get the story himself and then determine whether it was serious enough that he would turn the rapist player in himself. . . because he is that forthright. . .

He is like the pope up here.  When it comes to the program, he is infallible.

Izzo will probably side step this one too because he's a professional victim and is probably untouchable in Lansing

Whoa hold on there .... let’s not sully the great PBR name by associating it with those heathens in such a manner.

such a finely brewed beverage as PBR doesn’t deserve to have its name dragged through the proverbial mud.

Pretty sure you meant Natty Ice.

Every time one of his players gets accused of sexual assault I can picture Tom doing the old Jud Heathcoate--you know, throwing a hissy and beating his fists against his temples, wondering why does he have to keep dealing with this stuff?

It never occurs to him that his players feel entitled to do whatever they want to the co-eds because nothing has ever happened to all the guys who did it before them.

The witness is Steve smiths son who said the coaches are like his godfathers who check in on him. Just saying it’s not totally cut and dry. Definitely worth investigating of course.

Yeah, the headline makes it sounds like he's out there threatening sorority sisters into silence.  Calling a kid he's known for that kid's whole life to try and figure out if he should suspend a player is way less salacious.

Still, he's one of the highest paid public employees in the state and has to be smarter than this.  At the least, the AD should reprimand him publicly and retrain him on relevant Title IX laws.

The optics still aren’t great. In the end it doesn’t really matter. Izzo is untouchable. The only reason the administration started pushing back against Dantini is because he was losing games and getting clowned by Michigan.

Right.  And it doesn't even address that Izzo is apparently basing discipline decisions on the statements of players' friends.  Just pointing out that based on reactions, I don't think that most people actually read the story or understood the nuance of what Izzo did wrong here.

The explanation itself is complete bullshit. Why would Izzo call to see if Smith is ok? Since when is checking in on someone who witnessed a rape a thing that needs to be done, no matter who that person is or how long you’ve known them? If you think that person emotionally needs your support because of something they witnessed, shouldn’t you also think the thing they witnessed was important enough to kick the perpetrator off the team?

It’s just amazing to me that there are so many sexual assaults connected to Sparty Sports and nothing happens to them.  I couldn’t get away with 1% of what those athletes get away with.  Someone please blow that place up.

Big difference between contacting a witness to find out what happened and contacting a victim.  These coaches are in an impossible position to make team related decisions based on accusations.  Seems reasonable that he would try to get as much information as legally possible before making a decision to suspend or kick off the team.
