It isn’t Jim Harbaugh

There isn’t a single player on this team that will put it all on their back.  There is no spiritual leader.   Who is it?   Those who have played team sports know what I am talking about.  Harbaugh can’t force this.

Neg away, but discuss first.

That's on the coach to fill a team of recruits willing to do that and is who is also supposed to motivate them. Let's be honest though, the culture of the program and probably the athletic department in general is what needs to change before Michigan finally get with the times and ever wins another conference championship let alone competes for the playoff.

I mean Michigan wins conference championships at a pretty competitive clip for any rational minded person in a lot of varsity sports. I don't think we can say it's an Athletic Department problem across all sports.

I am starting to think the athletic department's relationship and approach specifically related to the football program is a pretty deep systemic issue. Seems like we've seen the football program underachieve season after season for the past.. two decades? Across now 4 different coaches. At some point you have to wonder if it's the coach or the institution.

But what I don't get with this argument is that their other sports teams are doing just fine but the face of their program, their crown jewel, is struggling the most.

Juwan Howard is at least exuding a promising future.

Mel Pearson is heading the hockey program in the right direction.

Baseball got all the way to the World Series final before running into a buzzsaw.

It does not have to be this hard.

Name one coach whose unit has been average to date.  Warriner due to injuries.  The rest?

And then name any one of those other coaches that would get a quality job with another program.

You make yourself look really uneducated putting out a post like this. You do realize that the guy ultimately responsible for the lack of what you mentioned is the HEAD COACH!!

Damn straight

He recruited them, coached them, and let them down repeatedly.  They don't trust him and THAT is his fault.

He can certainly bench them and give someone some of his two cents when they are loafing or other.  The coach totally can motivate or de-motivate.  The fire starts at the top.

It's simple ... who wants to start?  I need 100% effort or I will put someone else in that will regardless of talent level. I WANT EFFORT and I want people who want to win.  He can chew some ass when needed.  Sometimes it is needed.  I hated getting yelled at for missed assignments as I was always hard on myself and hated losing but having the coach yell at me just made me even more pissed off than I was which worked most of the time. Get them fired up!

You can see a few that are playing hard and trying, it's not like none of them are trying. I feel it is the head coach at this point.  Something has failed from the top down.  I think we could still come back in this game but man ..... uuuugh.
