Interesting scene @ Crisler; Denard and Mark Snyder.

Submitted by Section 1 on
There was an interesting scene at Crisler tonight. I am guessing that no one watching tv would have seen it; I actually wonder how many people at the game caught it.

About five minutes into the second half, the stadium handheld cameras feature Denard, smiling and waving. His video image goes up on the scorebard. The band breaks into The Victors. It's the biggest crowd-roar of the night.

Who comes bouncing down from the Press row in Section 36? Well if it isn't our buddy from the Free Press, Mark Snyder. Denard is sitting on the floor, first row of Section 46 by the tunnel. With one of the assistant AD's. Snyder comes up to the two of them, begging for an interview. He gets on his knees, holding up his pad of paper (it's too noisy for a recorder) and waving his arms. Denard and the AAD are yelling at him to get out of the way. Snyder continues and they wave at him to move away so they can watch the game. I think Snyder was about 2 seconds away from a call to the ushers and/or security.

It looked like the dorkiest guy in high school on his knees in the gymnasium, begging the hottest chick in the history of the school for a date. Eventually Snyder walks away with his head hung. Hilarious. Highlight of the night for me, on a night that had Brady Hoke high-fiving the Maize Rage section, a meeting on the floor between Hoke, David Brandon and Governor Rick Snyder, and of course Mark "No Relation/No Hope" Snyder.

I hope that it is a helluva long time before anybody connected with our Athletic Department gives a Free Press reporter the time of day.

  • Losing to OSU by 4 pts.?
  • Watching Jon Diebler rain 3's with one arm in an elbow brace?
  • Hearing the PA play Do the Hokey Pokey?  I am not kidding on that one.
  • Seeing The Governor?
  • Seeing The Athletic Director?

It was a bit of a meh performance by our guys tonight.  We played some real strong defense; we worked hard on Sullinger (we basically have no one physically equipped to play him); we showed some pretty good patience and poise.  But we didn't shoot well, we didn't rebound hard, and, well, we lost at home in Conference play.

So, yeah.  I have to say; watching Mark Snyder get publicly pwned by Denard Robinson on the one single most important remaining question of the day with our football program, with The Victors still echoing off the walls at Crisler, was indeed my highlight of the evening.  I have simple tastes in life; I take pleasure in the small things.

Denard had some serious "security" at the game keeping away some of the kids looking for autographs during the action so that he could actually watch, but he did a ton of signing and got his picture taken with a bunch of people.

Love him. My gut tells me Hoke will do what it takes to keep him around.

I wish I could have seen this!

As others have said Denard pointed at Hoke when he received his standing ovation. I know for sure that he was pointing at Hoke because as soon as Denard did that Hoke started pointing back. That was by far the best moment of night for me. There seemed to be some early chemistry between the two...

was Hoke literally entering the student section, yelling god knows what to fire them up (I couldn't hear, opposite side of student section) and putting his hand up in some sort of cheer. I admire the hell out of him, especially the way he embraces the student body and wants to be a part of them.

Makes me wish I was there.  Between the Denard love for Michigan and the Freep diss, what a wonderful moment.

Now hopefully Hoke can figure out a way to tweak his offense to take advantage of Denard's talents.  As much as I loved RR's offense, one limitation was that it didn't train it's QB to be ready for the NFL (see Pat White's one and done career), which I found sad given our long streak of placing QBs in the pros.  If Hoke can fuse Denard into something that both utilizes his speed and also has elements of a pro-style offense, we'll kick ass and get him ready to QB at the next level.

A couple of things I saw from Denard at Crisler tonight.

1. He stayed until the very end... I mean the last shot.

2. He was VERY gracious to numerous kids who wanted his autograph.

3. He looked genuinely happy - smiling, talking, goofing off with those around him.

4. He seemed to keep an eye occasionally on Hoke.  When Hoke jumped up and cheered Darius down the court after a made basket - Denard looked in Hoke's direction and was smiling and nodding his head as if to say "Alright, this guy gets "it".  He's okay."

Not sure if this was already mentioned elsewhere, but I also noticed that neither Snyder nor Rosenberg were called upon during the entire press conference.  I hope Hoke keeps up the good work.
