Initial fan of Rawk but...
whoever is in charge of the music needs to be replaced. I am sick and tired of hearing the same songs every week. Not to mention the same song repeatedly during the same game ie Lose Yourself, Seven Nation Army, Welcome to the Jungle. Enter Sandman got basically no response at the EMU game yet was played again at IU.
You want to get the fans jacked but, the first consideration should be the players. How many of them listen to Bob Seger or the song from Animal House?

Just personal taste, but I didn't like any of new music choices for IU. Lose Yourself and Seven Nation Army get good response from all the students, but there should be some more variety.
There was an article in the Daily quoting Troy Woolfolk basically saying the old music entertains the alums, but he wants music to get him hyped up and requested Stanky Legg. I hate (HATE) that song but would gladly sacrifice to get the players hyped. But to be fair to whoevers in charge of music it's a new idea and it takes time to see what works/doesn't.

The music slipped into the fare of typical Weddings/Bar Mitzvahs. They really need to get that in check in a hurry.

I don't like the same RAWK music as other places, I'd like Michigan Stadium's catalog to be distinctive.
Speaking of typical wedding songs, WTF is with 'I will survive' being played at a wedding? Two people have just bonded themselves supposedly for life, and the DJ wants to spin a grrrl power song about breaking up?
And what's with 'Brick House,' saying your new wife is fat?

Dead on with I Will Survive. My wife and I put this on the banned list for the band at our wedding and the lead singer's jaw dropped. I've been saying the same thing for years.

I've moved to Madison recently and have had the opportunity to attend a couple of Wisconsin football games. While I absolutely loathe the commercial advertisements, Camp Randall does have some advantages over the Big House. It has nothing to do with noise, and everything to do with band/RAWK integration. Everyone knows about the 4th Quarter Jump Around (which is incredibly awesome). Camp Randall does similar things throughout the game. The PAs don't just pump in random music at random times. Rather, the pumped in music comes in at the same time roughly every game and is usually the same song.
From what I've heard about the new RAWK MUZAK, the Big House could benefit from this approach. If it picks a certain set of songs that are played at certain times, and leaves the rest to either the band (if the band can handle the pump-up duties, which is a separate discussion) or to a less obtrusive/aggravating song rotation, I think the entire stadium could benefit. Thoughts?

I agree mostly. IU was my first game this year, and I liked how loud and lively it got, but yeah, the variety isn't very good. Also, the timing of some of the songs was pretty awkward. I actually liked "Shout" a lot because it was good for fan participation. One of my favorites was SRV's "House is a'Rockin," mostly because it was so unexpected, but also appropriate. I'm hoping there are just some growing pains, but they definitely need a bigger playlist.
Also re: this, I was on the stadium tour today. Jamie Morris was doing the locker room part and asked people what they thought of the music. Many old blue hairs were like "rrr...too loud..rrr..." Then when he asked for questions, many of them were complaints like "why do they do this now, why don't they do that anymore?" I think he was mostly expecting questions about the locker room, so he just said, "Uh, you can email the AD."

Sounds about par for him.
Yeah I was shockingly into "House is a Rockin'" do to the appropriateness but, Shout didn't do it for me. Along the prior line, was half expecting "Our House" by Madness.
One other point to make, seems like the band is backing down a little in terms of the number of times they play during the game. Is that in my head?

Can we show some Ann Arbor loyalty and play a bit o' mindless Andrew W.K.?
September 27th, 2009 at 9:21 PM ^
This would be a phenomenal idea. Andrew W.K. makes me want to break stuff and run through walls. Maybe the defense will get similar encouragement.

I agree with your comment. I'd generally change the channel if it came on in my car but he's a native son and his music is loud and fast. Better than Journey. Enough with that already.

i like it, but they need to get more stuff. i'm a big guns n roses fan, but hearing "welcome to the jungle" more than twice gets quite old and doesn't work as well the second time as the first time they play it.
but the one song they need to play every game is "lose yourself". ohio state has "seven nation army", penn state has "zombie nation", wisconsin has "jump around", michigan has "lose yourself". i'm a rawk fan, but i like some rap, and that is probably my favorite rap song and the way the students get into it is pretty sweet. if we could get most of the fans to do that it could turn into a new tradition.
and actually, i thought "enter sandman" got the crowd into it pretty good on a third down the one time they played it.

Play Sandstorm!

go to about a minute in.

Actually, they did play the stanky legg during pre game. I thought it was pretty cool that they actually played the song request from Woolfolk.

Sir Mix a Lot to do a Michigan Remix of "Jump On It"? Just you know, instead of cities, put in dorm names, or just "Ann Arbor, jump on it, jump on it, jump on it"
I'm a traditionalist at heart, but damn, if I could see the entire student section do the hip thrusts and rodeo jump around a la Fresh Prince & Carlton, the rest of the Big Ten would cower in fear.

I'm placing my request for the Kaiser Chiefs "I Predict A Riot" for the home game vs. MSU next year.

I wanted nothing to do with piped in RAWK, but after IU I have to say I like it--but for the sake of all that is holy, please take out "I Wanna Rock." In a sea of already cliched stadium songs it is in it's own section of music hell. But what converted me was hearing the student reaction to Seven Nation Army, I really like that. Lastly, has anyone commented before that the stadium speakers suck so badly? They sound like someone is putting a megaphone next to an ipod speaker.
