"I just felt like he just wanted to be 100 percent sure that he was making the right decision," James Blackmon Sr., his father and coach at Marion, said. "James committed when he was 14 years old. A lot of things changed between now and then. The only way he’s going to make sure he’s 100 percent sure is to see something different." - from the article

It seems to me that if he was all of 14 when he committed, then he may as well have committed a lifetime ago. I don't think anyone would blame a kid who committed when he was just getting used to high school for wanting to see what else was out there, even if in the end he finds himself in Bloomington anyway.

He waits to offer kids till a certain age and also not till they visit. Also, the way Crean acts on the sideline and in interviews might be scaring some kids/parents away, the guy comes off like a douche, I would never want my kid playing for a guy like that.

U-M has got classy guys running their programs, well liked and it's really paying off!

Anyone know when basketball tickets go on sale? I know football season isn't quite here yet. But my dad is a IU bball fan and I was wanting to get a jump on the tickets before they get to salty.

Does anybody know the real story behind Creans comments to Jeff Meyer?

Liek an unbuased, factual account of why Crean would make those comments?

I have always been curious and I have no idea what was behind that.

Thanks,

Dude

he was on the staff during the Sampson regime in bloomington, Crean's major narrative at IU had been the disaster he inherited, M and IU have battled on the recruiting train and on the court a lot, it boiled over afte rthe biggest win of Creans time at IU.

irrational misplaced blame, but IDK if there's more to the story

So Creane basically blames Meyer for waiting in the wings and learning under Sampson and not doing anything about what was happening around him - and thusly blames Meyer for the downfall of IU basketball under Sampson?

Makes sense...

Side note: I always thought the UK buzzer beater was CReanes biggest win at IU?

Creane obviously seems rather douchey... Meyer may have had an infinitely small part of blame for not blowing  the whistle on Sampson...

Thanks for the insight.

well, IDK biggest win is certainly debateable. IIRC, that was a huge upset that didn't have bearing on IU being a 1 seed nor the B10 title, so we can debate that all day long.

more to the point, yeah I think it's misplaced blame and guilt by association.

My take on Meyer is that he's one of those assistants who (like the assistant under Fisher who recruited the Fab5) that it so motivated to win recruiting battles he'll do anything as authorized by the HC/discussed by the staff as a whole as OK. under Sampson that may have meant a different thing than under Beilein. I don't recall any specific accusations on Meyer at all however.
