If You Knew Jim Harbaugh Would Read Your Comment, What Would You Say? Jim Harbaugh Before/After
I've watched Jim Harbaugh for years. I loved what he did at Stanford. I still remember the big upset over USC in 2007 with the corner lob into the end zone for the win. USC was a 41 point favorite--making it at the time the biggest upset in the history of college football. I loved what he did at the 49ers. The 49ers hadn't had a winning season in nine years before he got there. They went 13-3 in his first year--and were one fumbled punt in the NFC Finals away from making the Super Bowl. He was named Coach Of The Year. In his second season they made it to the Super Bowl. In his third year, they made it, again, to the NFC Finals. His fourth didn't go well. There's lots of rumors as to what was happening behind the scenes between Jim Harbaugh and the front office of the 49ers that was the reason for what was happening to the team. The leading rumor being that the front office was drafting players that did not pan out, and Jim Harbaugh wanted much more say in who was drafted. Harbaugh and the 49ers parted ways. The next year he was hired at Michigan. Michigan immediately became an exciting team to watch. It was clear there were building, getting better, in the first two years he'd been here. Michigan lost to Ohio St in that second year. But it was the best Michigan vs. Ohio St game in a long time. Of course we all know there was lots of controversy about the officiating in that game. Maybe Michigan was the better team, and didn't win.
But....
After that game Jim Harbaugh seemed to become a different person. He used to be passionate, on fire, dynamite, on the sidelines. But now, it's to the point he seems to have little animation. There seems to be no fire, no fight (at least not very visible fight), and drive to win. And the team seems to be a little the same. Tjough I'm sure there's many, many players that want to win very badly.
So, if you knew Jim Harbaugh was going to read your comment about this, what would you say to him?
(p.s., imagine he really is going to read it, because, what if he does?)

It takes a special kind of asshole to think people need to read a new iteration of "Harbaugh changed after the 2016 OSU game."
Dwell on it some more and dress it up in new ways. People need to keep hearing this opinion.

But... but... he has pictures that prove it!?

I feel like there are a lot of cherry-picked gifs posted above, although I agree that something seems different overall the last couple years. If I knew he was reading this, based on the gifs you provided, I think I'd tell him:
Lose the glasses, Jim. Bespectacled Jim is much less intense than blurry-visioned Jim.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:14 PM ^
There aren't a lot of GIFs of him in the last two years. It's probably because he was so animated before there was lots to make GIFs from, of things people wanted to see. Can you remember the times he's been animated and intense in the last two years? Seriously.

So fucking stupid.
This thread. So fucking stupid.

I love Jim Harbaugh. I love UM football. Period.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:20 PM ^
I do, too. A lot of us do.
Just wish the former was better at running the latter.
Maybe a B1G championship by year 10 or so? Too demanding?
October 5th, 2019 at 8:36 AM ^
Running things at Michigan is a lot more difficult than it is running things at Stanford. Not only is the conference tougher, but they hate us A LOT more than anyone hated Stanford in the Pac 12
October 5th, 2019 at 10:03 AM ^
Lucky for Sweater Vest and Meyer that nobody hates TUOS.
October 5th, 2019 at 11:26 AM ^
Bullshit.... just complete crap!
Have you ever lived in Cali? Either Nor or SoCal?
This is another Michiganism whereby you think that football rivalries in the MidWest, and "THE" game is the only one out there. This type of arrogance is why the game has passed UM by. Pull head out of lower posterior.
ALL of the Cal schools HATE each other, from USC & Cardinal, to Cal and UCLA. These are huge rivalry games out west. Lots of great football being played in the PAC. And bottom to top, I'd say PAC is stronger than B1G.. didn't NW and MSU just get their asses handed to them by bottom tier PAC?

I’d ask Coach if participation in a clearly rigged game changed his outlook on football, and maybe made him change his priorities.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:05 PM ^
I think this is part of it.
What I would say is whatever you’re doing that has changed that intensity, if you are happier in your life, keep doing it. Maybe let Gattis or mustache give the pregame speech.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:18 PM ^
Harbaugh came to Michigan and immediately went to work with the Satellite Camps and the SEC pulled rank and shot down his plans. In the 2016 OSU game he was hit with a costly penalty (that was a high school basketball foul, not a college football penalty) and his team was robbed of a victory.
I think he tried to “clean up his act” because (maybe) he believed that it was antics that were causing the powers that be to conspire against him. It’s a logical perception, and a logical reaction. I miss his fire, but I think if it’s hurting your team, it’s needed to be addressed.
October 5th, 2019 at 9:55 AM ^
This is why Gattis is now on the field. Jim is the calm CEO and Josh is the new pit bull.
Go Blue !!! Destroy Iowa
October 5th, 2019 at 12:17 AM ^
I have felt the same since that day. I knew that day I'd never feel the same about the entire enterprise. And still never a word of explanation how those officials ended up on that game...
Then I'd tell him it's time to get past that or hand the reins to someone new.
And then I'd say Go Blue!
October 5th, 2019 at 7:49 AM ^
Absolutely agree with Sten.
The only things that will bring Michigan football back to where most want it to be are a) luck, which is of course possible, and b) pay for players, either through NCAA being forced to change their rules or, more preferably in my opinion, a bunch of big schools led by Michigan leaving and starting their own league with paid players.
October 5th, 2019 at 9:10 AM ^
Yes. Michigan wins by 17 in that game if the refs don't start going ham in the second half.

Post 2016: coaching as if Longshanks has his already opened his belly
Pre 2017: THAT is what a FREE MAN leading his men into battle looks like.
Jim. It is your GOD GIVEN RIGHT to coach like a TRUELY FREE MAN!

You are sick but I like it. When I was in college I saw that flick 7 times in the theatre. Friends and family were worried about me. When it won the Oscar, I felt like I won it. Walked around happy for a couple of days.

They used to say that Bo mellowed as a coach as he got older.
October 5th, 2019 at 12:21 AM ^
If I knew how to embed, I'd put Bo's reaction to the penalty called on the fake punt in Bo's final game, New Year's Day 1990.
He HADN'T mellowed!
October 5th, 2019 at 9:26 AM ^
Bo didn't mellow. And his team's stayed mentally tough throughout his Michigan coaching career. Might not have won them all....but his team's NEVER got out toughed.

It's almost like Harbaugh, his family, and journalists haven't documented to death the reason why Harbaugh radically changed his sideline demeanor.
But, yes, let's continue this stupid conspiracy theory.
October 5th, 2019 at 12:19 AM ^
We’ve gotten to the point where I agree with f*^#ing Bando. Please stop these nonsense, horse shit threads.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:34 PM ^
First off, it was April 3, 2016 when the change started.
Second, his behavior is also about not deflecting attention away from his players.
Lastly, who says this kind of "passion" actually helps the team?
October 4th, 2019 at 11:39 PM ^
"Coach so you can become a cool gif."
"How are the fans/players going to know you care if you don't act like the Before?"
The Before is cool, but it didn't beat OSU.
October 5th, 2019 at 12:24 AM ^
Actually - it DID!
But they STOLE it from Cool Jim, because he showed them up!
So...?♂️

i can tell you what we talked about at a CFB recruiting camp that i had my 2 oldest sons at this summer. we caught up a bit. i walked up to him and said we hadn't seen each other since i'd graduated and asked how he was doing. after that, he said (with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind), 'where are you at?!' i dished. he then got up and was the main speaker at the camp. it was fun. i met don brown right after we all broke out to separate units. he was a kick.
iowa was not on the radar.
