IF Urban gets fired, I propose a toast...
SO, as unlikely as I thought that Jim Harbaugh would become our head coach I also believe that it's unlikely that Urban will get fired. I was pleasantly surprised with our new hire and celebrated by buying 100 pints of beer at Ashley's. Since I am a hater, I am offering another night at Ashley's if Urban ceases to be the head coach of OSU forever. I haven't figured out if it will be another 100 pints or what yet. I guess we could consider it a wake of sorts. Now you have one more reason to refresh this page.
And people say the off season is boring. CHEERS!
You realize it will have been at the expense of someone’s physical, emotional, and mental well-being, right?
I somehow think he'll survive. And speaking of well-being, I think it would do Courtney Smith's physical, emotional and mental well-being good to have it happen.
I believe Fishbulb was referring to Courtney Smith.
They aren’t mutually exclusive. You can be happy if Urban is gone and at the same time have empathy for the victim. I don’t think he’s implying that he’s happy a women was abused. Let’s use a little bit of nuance before breaking out the pitchforks.
That's not how virtue signaling works, sir or madam.
Jordan Peterson? Hi, I thought you were a political prisoner in Mountie custody.
Huh? So celebrating justice is dishonoring to victims?
I think he implies that we're not celebrating justice as much as we are celebrating about a rival team's loss.
This take is becoming infuriatingly old. Just because OSU is our rival doesn't mean we aren't allowed to honestly assess their lack of moral character as a whole, and the fact that they ignore rules and ethics in a way that has given them a leg up in the sports world. Their success is directly linked to a cultural that ignores what's right so that they can win.
Totally agree. If Meyer gets fired -- and moreover, if a bunch of the dirt we all know is there, comes out -- I am happy in the sense that the world is somewhat just.
If the impetus to offer free drinks was that a bad coach got what was coming to them, where was the free round of drinks when Rich Rod got canned? Or Briles? Or any number of other guys who got what was coming to them?
I can see how this seems like celebrating a rival's misfortune at the expense of the woman involved.
Why stop there? Where exactly were the free drinks when Weinstein got the axe, and when Rihanna came out about Chris Brown?
Not sure if you're supporting or attempting to refute my stance, but that is exactly my point. The actual exposure of an abusive or enabling person is not the root cause we celebrate here. It is ALL about our rival losing an asset.
Put it this way. We have this event if Meyer gets canned for drunk driving, for word getting out that he conclusively knew about Hernandez, or that he is actually the Zodiac Killer.
We don't have this event if Bill Snyder is fired for covering up domestic abuse.
I'll give us a small benefit of the doubt. If Meyer dies in a fire, or if he is diagnosed with a degenerative brain disorder, we're not toasted champagne glasses. But this is mostly about a rival coach who deserves to get fired getting fired. Not celebrating a small bit of justice in an increasingly shitty world.
It is astonishing how hard you two are trying to rationalize your holiness.
I'm not virtue signalling. Just pointing out hypocrisy. I've got all sorts of shortcomings and issues that I deal with. I just don't really care for unfounded self righteousness. There are plenty of public figures that could choke on a ham sandwich and die, and I would be coordinating a celebratory parade. I love pettiness. I just appreciate when people acknowledge it as such.
My holiness is without need for rationalization. It simply is. Just attend a primary school for a day or two in the DPRK and you'll see the light.
Lol. You guys are awesome. +1
Spot on. No one is relishing the hell Courtney Smith endured since 2009, but IF Meyer is canned I will be happy that Karma truly is a bitch.
I HATE OSU, MSU, AND PSU.
All this crap we've seen out of them is sickening. BURN THEIR PROGRAMS DOWN.
Beat them all with character, beat them all with cruelty.

my problem is that very few can actually "honestly assess" this situation. The thread showing contrary information was blasted and people were mad that it was posted. You are kidding yourself if the majority of people here give a shit about Courtney Smith. They only care that OSU will get knocked down a peg. I don't even find that opinion annoying. I find this self righteous "I just want to see justice" opinion annoying. All this situation has proven is that neither UM or OSU give a shit about any of the details and we both just want to win. Period.
Further, this makes you sound like a whiny bitch, " Their success is directly linked to a cultural that ignores what's right " Ok. The only reason they've ever won a game is because someone got free tattoos. The only reason they recruit so well is that Urban lied to the big ten media about his knowledge of this incident. Right. I'd really like to see your "direct" link proven out. At best you mean "indirect" and you definitely can't quantify or prove it. Further, read up about some of UM's scandals. We are not innocent of bad people and decisions. We've had boosters, we've given out cars to players, we've covered up crimes. Why aren't we winning? Are you suggesting we should allow more domestic violence and suddenly we'd win more?
All of this sanctimonious bullshit is annoying. Let's all just hope our team is good and let the dumpster fire in OSU play out.
No it's not. She was abused independent of whether or not OSU decides to fire Meyer or not. The celebration would be for justice being served and scumbag being out of a job hopefully for a long time.
So he is offering the same deal when the [insert school name here] [insert sport here] coach was canned for [insert domestic or sexual abuse here] [insert victim or victims here]?
Or is this something specially applied to the rival coach that has kicked our asses in for several years? Seems like it may have more to do with the second.
The dude's a dentist, but he'd be buying 100 drinks like every day in these times.
Also, see virtue signaling comment above.
HOT TAKE. Ugh.
We could add Brock Turner's appeal rejection to the celebration. Would that help you feel better about it?
Meh...I've drunk to worse
There are more journalists assassinated in a day than there are toasts in a night, prav?
I'll drink to that! Cheers!
I will take a free beer but also harbor regret that Meyer squeaked by Michigan every year except 2015.
I want to kick his ass at least once and have him resign with his tail between his legs.
Then OSU can hire Addazio or something.
I will also drink to Courtney's bravery and the welfare of her kids.
Yes, to all the OSU fans that say that Michigan fans "don't care about justice but want Urban gone for football reasons,"... there are a lot of fans (like myself) that, if only thinking football, would want Urban to stay so that we can beat him...
In a strange way, losing on the field is the only kind of retribution that exists for Urban and OSU. If they fire him, they have their excuse for losing, just like in 2011.
If they keep him, and he goes 8-4 with a 31-7 loss to U-M, i's the worst punishment for them. It would mean they sold their souls and got nothing for it.
Here's to you having to spend a lot of money on alcohol.
What if I want a Coke Zero?
Youll get a pepsiOne and like it
To all of these idiot ass Ohio State fans I’m around everyday who keep saying “URBAN DIDNT DO ANYTHING WRONG AND COURTNEY SMITH IS CRAZY.” Sorry for the caps lock, but the weasel dicks here in Columbus and get headed talking about this situation.
After Last Chance U and now this, I've learned of both Slapdicks and Weaseldicks this year.
Never heard of slapdicks, weaseldicks is a classic though.
Honestly don't think it's the best move to celebrate "because it makes my football team better" in a situation like this.
Your medal is in the mail. Bad guy that covers up abuse gets fired = time to celebrate.
Urban sucks and I feel he's awful human being but maybe let this one play out and fade away.
Now if he got caught up in the hilarious world of hookers, cocaine and pirating illegal dvds of Hello Kitty - Island Adventure, by all means shout it from the roof tops. But alas, it took a man knowingly employing a wife-beater for several years (and lying about most of his knowledge) for this situation to come up. Maybe sit this one out...
dvds of Hello Kitty.
That's the comment of the day here on MGoBlog, ladies and gentlemen.
I can't help but feel like we'd be celebrating at the expense of someone's physical and emotional abuse.
But I wouldn't be unhappy to see him go. He'd be continuing a proud OSU tradition of head coaches leaving the job in disgrace.
More beer for me then.
It would be very sweet to beat an Urban Meyer lead OSU team at OSU.
I want Meyer to stay. I want everyone to realize what that athletic department is all about. I want him to get fired after Ohio State starts a slow decline and they think they can do better. Then they realize the next coach is not good.
I want Zach Smith to get jail time, and his ex-wife to get every penny he has left.
Everyone won't see it that way. The OSU faithful would interpret his staying as vindication, and worship him even more. Most outsiders would shrug, lose interest, and forget what it was all about. A small minority would actually care and be pissed off, and people would tell them, "That's college football for you..."
And that's why I want to see him fired, because it might be a sign that institutions want to change the toxic defend-the-program-at-all-costs culture that has set in on campuses with big-time sports.
I read that as of today OSU has not spoken to Zach Smith. They do not want to fire Urban and are trying to avoid any info that would force their hand to do so.
I call bullshit. Not on you, but on OSU.
Smith said he could take people down with him. Guaranteed he knows something, and I guarantee that OSU is trying to 1) figure out what, and 2) buy his silence
What would they need to discuss with Zach Smith? Do they need to hear his denials first hand? Nothing he has to say has much bearing on Urban Meyer's situation. As for Zach Smith's assertion that he is going to "take down the University" that could either be true or it could be the delusional statement of a blowhard bully. Coin flip as to which one.

LET'S GET BOMBED
