IF regular CFB is canceled, would a service academy win the national championship?

Navy AD suggests that the 3 service academies might be able to play each other even if no other FBS programs are allowed to play this season.  At present this scenario probably will not happen, but if the pandemic does end up precluding the fall 2020 season - this could be a sweet silver lining.

Dude, he's just making a generalization about how Army and Navy used to dominate back in the day. He doesnt mean exactly 100 years ago. No one asked you to tell us who won the the 1920 National Championship, and if anyone cared, they could google it themselves its not a secret only you know.

No. I'm still waiting for the Power Five conferences to say screw the bowl system and create their own playoff system for 2020. That's more likely than the 2-1 Quantico Marines winning the national title.

Not necessarily true - if you look at the official NCAA football guidelines, there is not one single authority to declare a national champion.   The NCAA recognizes various organizations/ methods that can declare a champion (with the CFP being a recent addition) but others exist, such as the AP poll.  (This is why there are so many split and contested championships in cfb history.  The cfp and bcs have reduced that, but not eliminated it.)

Thus, even if the CFB season was reduced to only the inter-service academy games, a champion can still be declared and recognized by the NCAA.   It may not be unanimous or even consensus,  but who says it must be?
