I was at South U at the Diag after the win over Illinois in 89!
It was my first term at Michigan. It was one of the craziest night I can remember as a Michigan fan. Any talk of a movement to the Diag tomorrow night if all goes well?
I lived off campus in 89 but somehow I knew even before cell phones that the Diag was where I needed to be. I live in the area now and I have that same feeling that I need to be downtown tomorrow night in case all goes well.
He was probably my current age but I just remember him as an older guy. I always assumed he parked on South U before the game with no clue of the storm that was coming. He tried to defend his car from the mass crowd and it actually made it worse for him. I didn't see a car flipped but I remember people walking on his car like it was a doormat to the street on the other side.
If you are going to the Diag tomorrow night ..... don't park anywhere near the Diag!

Samurai Jack sure is a crazy show. I remember seeing a couple episodes here or there when it was on TV, but I've watched a few episodes on Netflix. Sure is strange.
circa 1977. I too wish I had hung on to a roll of that stuff. Instead, I wiped.
You did the right thing.

My ex-girlfriend's name was Sarah Cuse..she was a whore.
best 2 dollars I've ever spent.
When she's first approached, she runs a stingy defense, but for 2 dollars she rolls over pretty quickly.
didn't make it to the team hotel but had a fun time making new friends right around the kingdome.

Ah, South U. I was in my final year of grad school. I remember a student swinging from the blinker light on the corner of South U and I believe Church St, a crowd of people jumping up and down on top of a news van, and someone making obsene thrusting motions from a roof through an awning with a metal pole removed from said awning. Not your typical evening on South U. Much more visual stimulation than usual.
There were a lot of complaints about students gone wild; however, I recall much of the damage to cars and the news van being done by people who didn't look much like students -- they looked more like liberal arts professors.
Is now a respected orthopedic surgeon in NYC.
What a weekend that was, 2 wins at the FF and two Dead shows at Criesler.
Best weekend ever.
I missed the Illinois riot because I had to go to my cousin's wedding that night. My cousin and I ended up watching the game at the reception on a tiny, portable mini-television (with like a 5 inch black and white screen) and then went totally nuts when we won. We made such a scene that it's still talked about to this day by the family.
We did make it to South University after the Seton Hall game. We blew off a brick of firecrackers in front of our house on East Ann street and then headed down there. For about 30 minutes it was awesome - everyone hugging, yelling "GO BLUE!" to each other, singing the Victors, and generally reveling in the Michigan spirit... then we saw some obviously out-of-town dude throw a newspaper vending machine through a store window and we got the hell out of there before the riot police came in!
On the CBS Morning news the next day after the championship, they opened with about 20 straight minutes of coverage of the scene that took place in A2. I was simultaneously horrified and proud to be a Michigan fan.
I was negative 1 years old. However, my father was right in the middle of the shenanagins on South U and was talking to me last weekend about the guy swinging on the traffic light, the news van being trashed etc etc. A year later he was my dad.
like your dad?
You mean 9 months later?
Hash Bash. What?
Whenever we talk about college basketball, he never fails to tell me how Sean Higgins ruined the best Illini basketball season ever. That was supposed to be their year. Yes, I love Illini tears.
re: the Woody Hayes toilet paper that was discussed above...
I too have thought about getting toilet paper with the OSU logo printed on it. But... I couldn't do it, out of respect for my poop.
