Great news for Michigan and for him. He probably needs more film; maybe he would perform well at the combine, but another year in the weight room and on the field will do him good for his NFL draft/career.

He's making a better decision than what many of our guys have done in recent years.  So many have left early "for the bag" only to get there and realize its half full.  Hutch will come back, play himself into a sure fire first round pick and laugh his way to the bank.

This is such a ridiculous and selfish comment.  You really have no idea what people’s circumstances are.  Aidan comes from a relativity well off and privileged background.  Not faulting him for that, but it’s true and when you don’t have to worry about money at this point in your life, your outlook is going to be different.  I’m not going to fault someone for trying to live out their dreams or make a paycheck.  Be honest, you’re just upset you don’t get to watch them play for your team anymore.  You really don’t care whether they get drafted or in which round.

Or maybe there's a chance that you don't know what you're talking about and your well intentioned support may not be what you think it is. In recent years, almost 50% of underclassman who declared went undrafted.  Excluding the 1st and 2nd round picks, underclassman who do get drafted have about a 25-50% chance of seeing a second contract.  Those players are not making life changing money.  Third round money for a DE last year generated about $900k in guaranteed money.  A 1st rounder would get $15-20 million.

And yes, people are right and they do risk injury.  But you can take out an insurance policy that's going to net you damn near what 3rd round guaranteed money would get you plus still maintain the opportunity to get drafted and double dip on an insurance policy + signing bonus as was the case with Jake Butt.

Lets look at Zach Gentry's case.  Leaves early and gets drafted in the 5th round.  Signs a 4 year contract worth $2.8 million but only $350k guaranteed.  The guy has played 6 games in 2 years and I'd be shocked if hes on an NFL roster next year.  So he leaves early for a whopping $1.4 million.  Sure, good money by most people's standards but hes by no means set for life and its peanuts by NFL standards.  He'll probably be selling insurance in 2 years.

Now look at Kwity Paye.  Thought to be a late second to early 3rd round pick last year.  Comes back and shows enough that he all of the sudden looks like a early to mid first round pick even with missing games do to injury.  He'll probably make $10-15 million and even if his NFL career doesn't work out the guy can retire at like 25 if he wants to.

In summary, 1st round picks are a no brainer to leave early.  Second round picks I'd lean towards leaving.  3rd round picks it's very much a toss up.  Anything after the third round is objectively stupid.

Really enjoying my expect nothing from the Wolverines and be pleasantly surprised approach to Michigan football

- assumed we’d lost Xaivier Worthy

- Assumed we’d never get Jaydon Hood

- Assumed we’d lost any chance at Donavon Edwards

- Assumed there was no chance Hutchinson was coming back

Really enjoying all the pleasant surprises

This realization and your newfound self-awareness may be the harbinger of more dong punches. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

In all seriousness, I’ve had similar feelings with some of these developments post 2020 football season. I’ll continue to live pessimistically when it comes to M football however.
