Hunter Dickinson: Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Submitted by mgobob on January 4th, 2021 at 9:40 PM

Big ten freshman of the week again!

[Ed-Seth: Edited the title to be useful. Also: He's been that every week except the one Michigan didn't play!:

Hunter Dickinson earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fourth time in the last five weeks. He posted 26 pts & 11 rebs at Maryland and 19 pts & 3 rebs vs Northwestern.

The only week he hasn’t won the award since Dec. 1 came when U-M had 12 days off leading up to Christmas.

Since he’s been collecting freshman of the week hardware all season, I’m suggesting a better title for this post:

Hunter and Gatherer

He’s our very own Cave Man.

[Edit: beat to the punch by Roy G.  Tough to beat the speed of light.]

Great detective show, I watched an old episode just this morning.

.

Ok, I confess: I watch "Hunter" mostly because of  co-star Stepfanie Kramer ("Dee Dee McCall"). IMO, one of the all time hottest babes in television history!

You're not kidding. You even spelled her name correctly. (Not too many Stepfanies out there.)

Det. Dee Dee McCall or Colonel Wilma Deering is the Ginger or MaryAnne of the one hour TV drama genre. I give the slightest edge to Erin Gray for her work on Silver Spoons.

This has to be the 10th or more shitty thread title over the past week.  And they all follow the exact same pattern.

1. An extremely infrequent visitor to the site (in this case the OP has been here 12 years with less than 1,000 points) or newbie creates a thread with a horrible title.

2. The board pounces and neg votes ensue

3. The OP gets defensive and doesnt understand why they're getting hammered

4. Somebody (in this case me) posts a link to the FAQ section of the site where it clearly references what NOT to do when creating a thread title.  https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq

5. Thread gets either modified or nuked by Mods

6. A few hours pass and another shitty title thread will be born.

Any OP that creates a post that gets at least 20 downvotes should get a 6 month ban on making posts. It’s the only way to a) clean the bullshit off this blog and b) have these people actually think before making another shitty post.

Repeat offenders should get a 1 year ban if they make another bullshit post within 6 months of being reinstated from the ban.

It's an MGoTradition I wish would end too.

I have no solutions at hand to stop it. Neither I nor LSA can patrol the board all day and night, and neither of us have the ability to use the old method of deducting points, dropping an offender well below the 100 points required to post an OP.

This past spring I took a voluntary furlough from my firm and collected unemployment for a few months.  When i filed for my weekly benefits after I clicked "save" i was presented a pop-up with seven or so questions I had to click "yes or no" on before I could hit submit.  My modest proposal would be when a person creates a thread and clicks save they are presented a pop-up with the following questions they have to acknowledge:

1. Have you checked the board to see if your news has already been posted?

2. Have you checked the date of your news you are posting?  Note: generally anything Michigan-related is posted here within minutes of breaking.

3. Have you checked to make sure your thread title meets board standards?  Here's a link to the FAQ page if you're not sure. https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq

4. If you're creating a post to share your feelings or opinions on an issue have you included anything new or significantly interesting for others to consider?  Note: generally speaking posts where the OP just tells the world their thoughts on things are poorly received by others.

That's pretty much it.  While there could be tons more added those four represent the vast majority, IMO, of the shitty posts around here.  Now - I wrote this knowing there is almost no chance of something like this being built but a fellow can dream cant he?

This is why you are so well-respected in these parts.  If I were to post (which I generally do not), I would fall into this category.  Of course, I would like to think that I might take a slightly better approach than some of the other neophytes or occasional perusers.

Anyway, I really like your idea.  It could be as simple as including the link that you have above as a caveat in the posting process.  This link could be located right above the Save button with a note stating to Please Ensure your Post Meets the Rules of the Road before posting.  I think this would go a long way toward reducing the number of silly posts.
