How MSU is prepping for Denard
Michigan State is using wide reciever Tony Lippett (who?) to emulate Denard Robinson in practice this week. At first glance it sort of makes sense since the guy was a spread qb in high school, but hes 6'3'' and ran a FAKE 4.53 forty coming out of high school. Do they really not have a faster shorter guy to try and show what Robinson can do? Other random things from the article:
Dantonio having trouble moving still, but hopes to get on to field.
Wisconsin game was "best moment of his head coaching career"

Well looks like you got the attention of the RCMB

Honestly it doesn't take much more than a shiny object to get their attention.

Same with fish and women.

Maybe they have just sucked for so long that they forgot what it's like to actually have success.
when did MSU last win a Big 10 championship? when was the last time MSU went to the rose bowl? when was the last time MSU actually won more than 2 in a row against us? oh yeah it was 1988, 1990, and 1965-1967 respectively. and for us? it was 2004, 2006, and 2005-2007 so i mean who has
...sucked for so long that they forgot what it's like to actually have success
?
that would be MSU, because now they think success is winning 7 games and beating Michigan. keep livin the dream state

They were 6-7 last year. A losing record. And they're on top of the world. AbFab

You're too kind - their last trip to the Rose Bowl was in 1987.

According to them, we are little brother now. Someone should tell them to win a big ten title in my lifetime. I'm in grad school now. I guess they are just waiting for the right moment.

Everytime I read RCMB I have a hard time reminding myself that I'm not on the ESPN message boards. That blog (or whatever you want to call it) is atrocious.

Ow. I read some. My IQ plummeted like the temperature when the dead would visit Haley Joel Osment in the Sixth Sense.

Nice Chuck Norris reference! That made my day!

No way a scout team can simulate game speed of Robinson. I love the way he sucks up safeties and hits Roundtree in the slot for an easy TD or sprints for 70 yd. TDs. Which poison does Sparty want to drink?

Trying to prepare for Denard is like trying to stop the sun from rising. It's just not happening.
October 6th, 2010 at 2:06 AM ^
I say let them focus on stopping Denard. Last I checked, football was a team sport and if you focus too much on one player there are other players that will burn you just as easy. I mean they focus on stopping his running game, it opens up his passing game or other players for the run. It also opens up having him do fake runs to get the defense to bite.
October 5th, 2010 at 8:33 PM ^
I think they are making labatomy appts for monday morning so they can forget about this coming saturday.
October 5th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
You don't prepare for Denard, Denard prepares for you.

That Denard was from former Soviet Union.

Wolverine Liberation Army, baby!

Denard in a previous incarnation raised the red flag over the Reichstag.
October 5th, 2010 at 8:43 PM ^
They haven't faced an offensive line as agile, skilled, tough and pissed off as Michigan's either. Another element they didn't have to deal with last year either. That's a lot of prep work for one week.
October 5th, 2010 at 8:56 PM ^
They could just get an F-16 to fly around the field.
October 6th, 2010 at 2:07 AM ^
Not fast enough...Maybe an SR-71...:)
October 5th, 2010 at 9:02 PM ^
I was expecting something like this:
October 5th, 2010 at 9:05 PM ^
I hear Dantonio is already having the timekeeper practice for when Denard plays there next year. The clock will run at ludicrous speed to ensure #16 has only a few possessions.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:09 PM ^
This thread is hilarious.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:11 PM ^
Who wants to bet that MSU gets a personal foul for late hitting Denard after a run? I will offer 5:1 odds.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:13 PM ^
I would take it if you can assure me that the MAC officials that showed up for the BG game won't be here. Man, those officials were awful.
October 6th, 2010 at 12:44 AM ^
MSU will hit late and twist ankles on every play, just like they always do against Michigan, until they are called for it a few times.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:12 PM ^
They might find the thirteen man defense some help, but I doubt it.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:19 PM ^
UPDATE: ESPN Bottom line is reporting Dantonio is going to be at the game, but in the Press Box.
I'm guessing if he can find away on that sideline, he'll sneak down.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:29 PM ^
Good luck with that, fellas.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:44 PM ^
If I was Dantonio, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Denard Robinson in the condition he's in.
I'm pretty sure that everybody on the opposing team shits their pants when Denard crosses the line of scrimmage.
I bet his doctor strongly advised that he stay the hell away from The Big House on Saturday.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
The number of teams that prepared for Denard...
How'd that work out?
October 5th, 2010 at 9:49 PM ^
"Denard is one in a million and cannot be replicated !!! Think you can stop him ... think again !! Total QB - can beat you with his legs or his arm, and he doesn't care which he uses !!!"
Response: "Oh really. So Michael Vick, Vince Young, and Pat White were just figments of our imaginations? gotcha, keep on with this whole act slappies."
They've got a point. You guys remember Michael Vick, Vince Young, and Pat White all played MSU and were held in check? Yeah, me neither. I will admit that MSU does a pretty good job of beating up on strawmen, though.
October 5th, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
you can catch Denard!
Ding!
Oooooooooooooow!
You're as useless as a poopy flavored lollipop!
October 5th, 2010 at 9:58 PM ^
I saw one of the super genius's* on ESPN College Football describe how everyone can easily stop Denard by coming to him instead of waiting for him - the same way ND stopped him in the 2nd half. How will we survive?
In other related news, The Experts might be the worst sports show I've ever seen, but I happened to tune in when they were talking about MSU-UoM so I watched. Its amazing what a great father figure and clean program Dantonio has been running, according to The Experts Not to be callous, but I don't recall much media attention outside Mich for all the arrests, but I'm sure there will be less to none now that he had a heart attack. Furthermore, these experts suggested another way to stop DRob that I'm sure no one has tried - shadow him with a linebacker. Good luck there fellas!
I don't care about strength of schedule or any of that crap. I ALWAYS root against MSU, all season. OSU may be our biggest rivalry, but I hate MSU and their fans the most by far!

Does he has dreads? If not, he cannot emulate Denard.

the Dreadator.
October 5th, 2010 at 10:02 PM ^
the segment on BigTen Network about how MSU can stop Denard?
It wasn't a bad bit of analysis (as if I'd recognize it).
Talked about Notre Dame sending blitzers to pressure Denard to accomplish 2 things:
1. Make him evade tacklers in the backfield where his lateral movement is limited, which will keep him from getting up to speed by the time he's at the line of scrimmage (allowing pursuit to catch him).
and
2. Pressure him on throws to make him throw either too soon, or off balance.
It all sounded very insightful; except nowhere did they mention exactly how to avoid/overcome Michigan's blockers?
October 5th, 2010 at 11:03 PM ^
Which would leave our WR's one on one on bubble screens. I'll take that match-up (providing Roundtree doesn't get tackled on the 1, Do'h)

Denard is quantum. He exhibits both particle and wave properties. In fact, trying to tackle Denard is similar to Schrodinger's cat; the tackle "opens" the box and resolves Denard into either a tackled Denard or an untackled, not-present Denard. This of course means that Denard can be said to exist, in part, in an always untackled state.
October 5th, 2010 at 10:12 PM ^
about 4 times a game he exists in an untackled state in the end zone.

"Tony!"
"Yes coach?" (in a feeble Sean Astin / Rudy voice)
"How would you like to be 1st string quarterback this week!"
"Sure! What do you want me to do first?"
"Put on this #16 blue jersey..."
"GULP"

Coach (to himself): we are soooo screwed.

MSU's prep involves playing film of Denard in slow motion so that he appears to be going at a normal speed. MSU also is preparing for Denard by sucking their thumbs and rocking back and forth in the fetal position.
October 5th, 2010 at 11:59 PM ^
they're preparing like this: Kirk Cousins is on a motorcycle... still not quite fast enough, but its the best they can do.

I know this is just hearsay, and far from actual, substantial "reporting" but my gf goes to msu and a football player in her class (one whom she could not identify, unfortunately) said (and this may or may not come as a surprise to anyone -- it just made my stomach churn when I heard it) "Denard is their only good player (ha), our goal for the game is to injure him" I lost sleep the night she told me this...It just makes me hate them so much more...he proceeded to say: "I'm gonna call it right now, msu is gonna win all 4 years that I'm here" ...fuck this guy...I hope we beat them so fucking badly -- It's humorous to me how good that they think they are...Soooooooo overconfident -- but what else is new? Even in the years that they go 2-10 they still think they are the shit, for some reason...
I know this is probably a stupid post, but I had to say it...I feel much better now
