High Schools

So this could be interesting. I would like to see a sort of demographic off the blog. So let's see where everyone went to high school and what year they graduated. Also, you can post any experiences you've had with other peoples schools. I'll start, of course. Richmond (MI) HS, Class of 2005

Our biggest rival was East and played against a guy who is now a Dolphin. He was a sophomore and I was a senior. I'm not going to lie, a sophomore kicked my ass and now it has become my claim to fame.

post lol, but Richmond. Lapeer West was always invited to our scrimages because we were both State Championship caliber wrestling programs. His brothers name was James Kish I believe? They're rated as one of the top 10 brother duos in the history of Michigan HS wrestling.

Oh well, screw better judgment and intuition. Forest Hills Central (Grand Rapids, MI) No claim to fame, other than a guy in my class was a walk-on at Michigan. a/s/l?

Ann Arbor Pioneer 2008. I think a grad from my school walked on at Michigan and was kicked off the team last year. . .and I've heard that my younger sister's elementary school soccer coach's daughter dated Vince Helmuth.

Sylvania Southview High School 2004. Played defensive tackle, broke my ankle and was done for. Claim to fame: I tackled Fred Davis on a qb scramble (he played primarily receiver, but also played qb and rb and was their whole team and his team sucked).

Cranbrook Kingswood 07. Saw Demens and Jonas Gray tear it up at DCD my senior year when they were juniors. Also Chad Langlais whose on the hockey team now went there. He and his twin brother were always sneaking girls into their room.

Saint Joseph High School, class of 2006. Currently a 3rd year senior at Michigan (in biomedical engineering). My high school went winless my senior year. The past two years, under a new coach (who was an assistant coach at Michigan [and a head coach at Navy and Western Michigan] -- Elliot Uzelac), the team went undefeated in the regular season.

I've noticed that your school has done well lately. There's a house on Main Street/Lakeshore Drive leading out to Stevensville that has been putting up the team's record as the season went on. I knew just a few years ago they weren't doing too well, so it's interesting to learn about the new coach as the reason for the turnaround.

At least you realize you're a FIP. :) Yeah, my last year at SJHS, the team went 0-9. The next year, Uzelac's first year, they went 6-5. The next two years were undefeated regular seasons (including a final four appearance in '07).

I don't know if it lessens my FIP status any, but my wife and I are both from Grand Rapids and went to college in Michigan. After school, I went to Chicago and my wife lived and worked in St. Joe for about 4 years until we got married. Now we get back to St. Joe every few weeks, but at least we have some ties to Michigan and the city. Then again, we're from Illinois so we might be stuck being FIPs. In any case, we like seeing the school do well. I haven't been inside, but the facilities look impressive.

De La Salle Collegiate (Warren, MI) Class of '02 We (the school not me, I rode the pine for my one season) played against Braylon while he was at Gallagher (he was class of '01), but I don't really remember him be OMG shirtless back then.

Loyola Academy, Wilmette, IL Nations #1 feeder school for Notre Dame My senior year, 4 of my 5 teachers were ND grads... I'll never forget the day George O'Leary resigned, the teachers going back and forth between classrooms, interrupting classes: 'Can you believe this?' Oh how I laughed that day (being a third generation U-M fan and all). I hate you Notre Dame. In September of that year I called Michigan and verbally committed. After some confusion the admissions lady explained there was this whole 'application' process for non-OMG shirtlesses. So I did that and then I got deferred. Then riding a second wave of near-excellence I was admitted with all the other A- students. But I had to cancel my press conference and everything. I was going to fake with the hats too.

North Laurel (London, KY) Class of '08 Unfortunately, my ACT scores were too low to get into U of Michigan, but hopefully my MCATS will be good enough to get into the Med School... Incidently, for those wondering, yes, I do wear shoes and no, I didn't marry and impregnate my cousin when I was 12 I played football all 4 years, we weren't very good, but hey, it was still fun

Riverview, MI (Class of 97'). Played RB and we played Marshall in state title game my senior year where MSU's own Ryan VanDyke torched our secondary for 300 yds + 3 TD's. That was our only loss that year and he kicked our ass. Makes me more glad he failed in college.

Divine Child High School '02 Our football team habitually ran it up the middle on 3rd and long, and I recently found out that Gary Danielson graduated from DCHS in '69. Fuck that.

First Detroit Public Schools grad to post! Renaissance High School, Class of 2008. Carson Butler and Andre Criswell were seniors when I was a freshman. I also went to elementary/middle school with Joe and Jordan Crawford.

The Senate is pretty good. It seems weird that a Stevenson kid would end up at the Senate regularly, though, since it's on the other side of town. ...which I guess really isn't that far. I've never really hung out in Livonia much until recently (since I went to HS in Dearborn). I frequent Mason's and the Yacht Club because I'm working on becoming a sleazy old man at the ripe age of 24.

I always thought Senate was a Churchill thing - glad to see it had city-wide appeal. Getting chili cheese fries there was always a terrible and delicious idea. The Lakepoint Yacht Club cracks my shit up too - it's like Hooters with character, and the closest thing to a yacht that's ever been near there is a paddleboat on PCB-infested 'Lake' Newburgh. There were some attorneys I worked for one summer that absolutely loved that place (and the Landing Strip, though as a minor I was not invited to tag along there.)

Well, it's like I've said before -- when you go to the Yacht Club, there's a nice view AND a nice view. They have some pretty good food, too, and the prices aren't bad for the most part. It just cracks me up that there were Livonia residents freaking out when it was proposed to put a Hooters in about a block down from the Yacht Club, because they thought Hooters was tasteless. It's like, "Hey, every been to this little place down the block on the Hines Drive River Basin?"
