This is funny. And while you can't quantify the degree that it brings Ws and Ls, the fact that Michigan players and coaches are united and proud, with all they've been through, speaks volumes. A lot of the worst nitwits in the media seem to have noticed this, and feel chastened, or at least confused.

But there are multiple ironies here. Among them the fact that while PLENTY of people here pissed and moaned about NIL and our failure to get it right, Harbaugh, Warde, and co. may have--giving very trying circumstances and the need for experiment--come damned close to doing just that. We are proud now, but the people who screamed for us to go full on mercenary. . . know who they are.

That said, a lot more of their best players are coming back than anticipated.

And they played in the bowl game.

I do think that THEY at least think they're on to something with changing the culture. In the past, they would've had a ton of opt outs and all of the draftable guys would already be gone.

Clearly they believe they're the group to change things, and that's the first step. That was Michigan after 2020.

...only problem is now you have to go out and do it.

I think it's funny how the consensus is that they're a fundamentally flawed team with serious problems. I mean, last year they were a missed field goal away from beating Georgia and going to the National Championship Game (which they would have won). This year they lost one game they genuinely competed in — on the road, to the No. 1 team in the country, with the ball on their opponent's side of the field and driving at the end.

I mean ... damn, talk about some high expectations. They're better, maybe, than every other team except the No. 1 team in the country ... and the take-away is that their culture is flawed and they need to revamp the program.

Ultimately, it's about different perspectives Michigan fans have towards OSU. Many here like to mock OSU as flawed. I personally think beating them when they're awesome only makes us look better, so I don't have as much desire to belittle them. They're a hell of a team.

And we're better.

I think it's funny how the consensus is that they're a fundamentally flawed team with serious problems.

I think people are misconstruing this whole thing a bit.

It’s not about whether they’re fundamentally flawed or whether 11-1 is unacceptable. It’s about this: Why is Ohio State doing less than Michigan despite having recruited more talent?

That’s a reasonable question to ask. And when you ask it, you do indeed see some issues.

They’ve reached a peak level of entitlement. Urban’s run and elite recruiting have created the belief that B1G championships and top 5 rankings are the floor.

It’s not just a near miss or 1-2 unlucky events. Three straight losses to UM was unthinkable a few years ago, two were multi-TD losses, one loss had an interim HC, an unprecedented B1G punishment didn’t slow UM, and UM has dominated the line of scrimmage. Plus, UM looks like they’re having fun as a team and relishing this run despite the external BS.

OSU knows this won’t suddenly flip. Stroud was a superstar QB who couldn’t beat UM; MHJ was the whole offense this year; OSU has 4/5 stars losing to 3/4 stars; Day appears lost in building a tough culture.

A lot of what happens depends on what happens pretty soon after Monday. If Harbaugh and JJ announce they’re back, along with a lot of other important pieces, I don’t think it matters next year what OSU is doing. Michigan does need to get in the portal though and pick up some key pieces. Ohio St, Oregon, Washington and Penn St have all done that. By this time last year, we already had 7 key portal entries signed. We signed 2 others later on in the spring.

This again is why the portal schedule is so F’ing stupid.  It feels like Michigan is at major disadvantage in the portal right now because it is still playing and no one knows who is going pro and what roster spots will be open.  Plus our coaches are busy preparing for the biggest game of all time so recruiting takes an obvious back seat.

Your statement is half true. The defense ABSOLUTELY showed up and balled out!

A high-powered SEC offense with 100% of its weapons was shutout through 3 quarters. They finally got things going on their 10th & 11th possessions to score 2 TDs, but if OSU's offense did anything to drive the ball more, perhaps Missouri doesn't even get to possessions 10 & 11.

Flat out domination by an elite defense that showed up big time.

...as for the offense?  ...I don't wanna talk about it.  :-(

Calling us cheaters is all they have left to cling onto. But compared to 2.5 months ago when it was all anyone would talk about, they’re shouting it into a vacuum now.

Everyone besides them and MSU fans have either moved on or changed their tunes and accepted that Stallions wasn’t the reason for their success.

Stroud on SVP SC just now. SVP asked CJ about Michigan possibly winning a natty (or 'ship for those of you sensitive about natty) in the NRG and also about how much shit Nico is going to give him.

CJ said he's not focused on that. Then he added that he and Nico have a truce because neither of them beat the other school so they don't talk about it. "But it sucks that he went there."

Stroud is a likeable person.  Seems like a genuinely good guy, and he has overcome a bit of a rough childhood if you happened to catch The Journey which featured him.  Easier to say all that because we beat him twice, but I'm confident I'd feel that way even if our losing streak hadn't flipped 180 degrees.

They drink such large and unhealthy amounts of scarlet and gray Kool aid that their brains literally can’t process the idea that an alum would ever say something not totally and unequivocally positive about Ohio St. Yet they themselves rant and rave about going 11-2, needing staff changes, etc etc. Those poor few commenters that don’t tow the party line get their comments grayed out. It’s a fucked up forum for mostly fucked up people. They ran the guy out of town because of his attempt to be an unbiased national analyst.

Not surprised they are salty, they seem to have had no idea this was the case until Herbstreit told them.  They certainly don't talk like that on their board.  In fact they were actually lamenting how the guys who decommitted from them were just chasing the bag and not bought in to the wholesome Ohio State culture and values while they were literally holding their breath waiting for the NIL wire to clear for their #1 receiver target a few weeks ago.

They are disconnected from their own reality, so yeah they would not have seen this truth bomb coming.
