Herbstreit tells Rich Eisen that while Michigan plays for each other, OSU plays for individual glory and the NFL draft
Absolutely fucking glorious:
And boy are they fucking salty about it:
January 6th, 2024 at 11:28 PM ^
Crystal clear how the two cultures are so different
January 7th, 2024 at 1:00 AM ^
Maybe not completely different. Remember, a few of their players said they were sorry they never had a chance to see the campus before they left.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:36 AM ^
This is funny. And while you can't quantify the degree that it brings Ws and Ls, the fact that Michigan players and coaches are united and proud, with all they've been through, speaks volumes. A lot of the worst nitwits in the media seem to have noticed this, and feel chastened, or at least confused.
But there are multiple ironies here. Among them the fact that while PLENTY of people here pissed and moaned about NIL and our failure to get it right, Harbaugh, Warde, and co. may have--giving very trying circumstances and the need for experiment--come damned close to doing just that. We are proud now, but the people who screamed for us to go full on mercenary. . . know who they are.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:55 AM ^
The best part is those douchebags are still crying like first graders about cheating. They are the dumbest, most entitled, biggest crybabies in all of football at any level. It's really fun watching those assholes lose their pathetic little minds!
January 6th, 2024 at 11:29 PM ^
Gosh, where have we heard that before?
January 6th, 2024 at 11:29 PM ^
We knew this
Glad to make the obvious statement Herbie.
Mercenary U.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:29 PM ^
Herbie spittin’.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:30 PM ^
It’s extremely noticeable, on the Michigan side. Has been for a few years. Harbaugh’s done a great job in team building, they genuinely care for one another.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:30 PM ^
This isn't a new take for him...he said the same thing on college gameday.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:33 PM ^
That said, a lot more of their best players are coming back than anticipated.
And they played in the bowl game.
I do think that THEY at least think they're on to something with changing the culture. In the past, they would've had a ton of opt outs and all of the draftable guys would already be gone.
Clearly they believe they're the group to change things, and that's the first step. That was Michigan after 2020.
...only problem is now you have to go out and do it.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:41 PM ^
I think it's funny how the consensus is that they're a fundamentally flawed team with serious problems. I mean, last year they were a missed field goal away from beating Georgia and going to the National Championship Game (which they would have won). This year they lost one game they genuinely competed in — on the road, to the No. 1 team in the country, with the ball on their opponent's side of the field and driving at the end.
I mean ... damn, talk about some high expectations. They're better, maybe, than every other team except the No. 1 team in the country ... and the take-away is that their culture is flawed and they need to revamp the program.
Ultimately, it's about different perspectives Michigan fans have towards OSU. Many here like to mock OSU as flawed. I personally think beating them when they're awesome only makes us look better, so I don't have as much desire to belittle them. They're a hell of a team.
And we're better.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:45 PM ^
I'm happy to see them freak out over being called soft and the like.
January 7th, 2024 at 12:05 AM ^
It's the intangibles, as they say, not the wins and losses. They don't look like they're having fun. They don't feel "together." Day doesn't seem like he's having fun. Something just seems lacking with them, and I think Herbstreit put his finger on it.
January 7th, 2024 at 12:14 AM ^
Only putting up 3 points against Mizzou seems bad but idk what bowl season even means anymore
January 7th, 2024 at 12:25 AM ^
Both things can be true - they achieve great results because of superior talent and good but clearly not superior schemes and are fundamentally flawed because of their organizational culture.
January 7th, 2024 at 1:03 AM ^
I think it's funny how the consensus is that they're a fundamentally flawed team with serious problems.
I think people are misconstruing this whole thing a bit.
It’s not about whether they’re fundamentally flawed or whether 11-1 is unacceptable. It’s about this: Why is Ohio State doing less than Michigan despite having recruited more talent?
That’s a reasonable question to ask. And when you ask it, you do indeed see some issues.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:19 AM ^
Keep that pressure and high expectation on Ryan Day. He’s so deserving
January 7th, 2024 at 9:14 AM ^
They’ve reached a peak level of entitlement. Urban’s run and elite recruiting have created the belief that B1G championships and top 5 rankings are the floor.
It’s not just a near miss or 1-2 unlucky events. Three straight losses to UM was unthinkable a few years ago, two were multi-TD losses, one loss had an interim HC, an unprecedented B1G punishment didn’t slow UM, and UM has dominated the line of scrimmage. Plus, UM looks like they’re having fun as a team and relishing this run despite the external BS.
OSU knows this won’t suddenly flip. Stroud was a superstar QB who couldn’t beat UM; MHJ was the whole offense this year; OSU has 4/5 stars losing to 3/4 stars; Day appears lost in building a tough culture.
January 7th, 2024 at 10:14 AM ^
Aside from beating him three straight years Harbaugh did more damage to Day by labeling him 3rd base than anything else.
January 7th, 2024 at 1:02 AM ^
A lot of what happens depends on what happens pretty soon after Monday. If Harbaugh and JJ announce they’re back, along with a lot of other important pieces, I don’t think it matters next year what OSU is doing. Michigan does need to get in the portal though and pick up some key pieces. Ohio St, Oregon, Washington and Penn St have all done that. By this time last year, we already had 7 key portal entries signed. We signed 2 others later on in the spring.
January 7th, 2024 at 10:41 AM ^
This again is why the portal schedule is so F’ing stupid. It feels like Michigan is at major disadvantage in the portal right now because it is still playing and no one knows who is going pro and what roster spots will be open. Plus our coaches are busy preparing for the biggest game of all time so recruiting takes an obvious back seat.
January 8th, 2024 at 12:52 AM ^
Think of it as analogous to earlier draft picks for sucky teams.
January 7th, 2024 at 3:52 AM ^
And they played in the bowl game.
They may have played but they didnt show up. That was an embarrassment.
January 7th, 2024 at 10:13 AM ^
Your statement is half true. The defense ABSOLUTELY showed up and balled out!
A high-powered SEC offense with 100% of its weapons was shutout through 3 quarters. They finally got things going on their 10th & 11th possessions to score 2 TDs, but if OSU's offense did anything to drive the ball more, perhaps Missouri doesn't even get to possessions 10 & 11.
Flat out domination by an elite defense that showed up big time.
...as for the offense? ...I don't wanna talk about it. :-(
January 7th, 2024 at 11:42 AM ^
Have you all changed your acronym from TTUN to TCUN to show respect to The Champions up North?
Finally, some maturity from that cesspool.
January 8th, 2024 at 9:25 PM ^
The fact they all think that's ok is all you need to know about all those people. I'm sure they all blame rape victims and think it's ok to kick dogs.
January 8th, 2024 at 12:53 PM ^
You showed up like Iowa shows up. Im not going to put any glory on that. Iowa catches shit for games like this without any fanfare.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:33 PM ^
The comments are glorious......and show just how delusional those fans are
January 6th, 2024 at 11:41 PM ^
Aw come on now, those chaps are quite reasonable. I'm assuming "TCUN" stands for "The (Big Ten) Champs Up North?"

January 7th, 2024 at 1:11 AM ^
We have broken that program.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:35 AM ^
Delusional AND the most unsportsmanlike human beings on the planet. They can never give credit to the other team for anything or be willing to admit their team isn't as good as it could be. Instead, it's all because we're cheaters. What a bunch of ignoramuses.
January 7th, 2024 at 7:44 AM ^
Calling us cheaters is all they have left to cling onto. But compared to 2.5 months ago when it was all anyone would talk about, they’re shouting it into a vacuum now.
Everyone besides them and MSU fans have either moved on or changed their tunes and accepted that Stallions wasn’t the reason for their success.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:40 PM ^
Charge your phone.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:48 PM ^
This is harsh. It's not like their starting QB bailed on the team before their bowl game or anything.
January 7th, 2024 at 8:24 AM ^
I don't think he bailed so much as they ran him out. Similar to the Bama center - dude snapped his team to 11 wins and a playoff game, then was sent packing without a kiss goodbye. Did either of them even get a handshake on the way out?
January 7th, 2024 at 8:50 AM ^
Well what do you expect players to do when they're told they have to compete for starting time?
January 7th, 2024 at 10:18 AM ^
It may or may not have mattered with McCord, but Day seemed to be publicly blaming him for the Michigan loss. He could have run the same process without the bold public proclamation fresh out of a stinging defeat.
January 7th, 2024 at 11:44 AM ^
Day isn’t man enough to own it and the sickness and weather excuses have failed. What’s an uncreative whiner to do?
January 6th, 2024 at 11:49 PM ^
That thread is full of really stupid people
January 6th, 2024 at 11:50 PM ^
Stroud on SVP SC just now. SVP asked CJ about Michigan possibly winning a natty (or 'ship for those of you sensitive about natty) in the NRG and also about how much shit Nico is going to give him.
CJ said he's not focused on that. Then he added that he and Nico have a truce because neither of them beat the other school so they don't talk about it. "But it sucks that he went there."
January 7th, 2024 at 6:39 AM ^
I actually don’t dislike Stroud. Probably solely for the reason that he never beat us. Justin Fields tho I’ve always rooted against. I’d be ok if Stroud is the first successful OSU QB in the pros if it coincides with Michigan running the win streak to 4,5,6,7…
January 7th, 2024 at 8:47 AM ^
Right with you. There is something about Fields that I find especially annoying.
January 7th, 2024 at 5:18 PM ^
Stroud is a likeable person. Seems like a genuinely good guy, and he has overcome a bit of a rough childhood if you happened to catch The Journey which featured him. Easier to say all that because we beat him twice, but I'm confident I'd feel that way even if our losing streak hadn't flipped 180 degrees.
January 7th, 2024 at 3:32 PM ^
I saw that and started cracking up. He was definitely caught off guard with that question. Seems like a genuinely good dude tho.
January 6th, 2024 at 11:56 PM ^
quality post, thanks OP
January 7th, 2024 at 12:00 AM ^
Does Herbie live in a gated home in a gated community surrounded by a guarded moat far far away from Ohio?
January 7th, 2024 at 12:07 AM ^
Don't know about the gate or moat, but he famously moved from Columbus to Nashville to get away from the fans.
January 7th, 2024 at 12:08 AM ^
They drink such large and unhealthy amounts of scarlet and gray Kool aid that their brains literally can’t process the idea that an alum would ever say something not totally and unequivocally positive about Ohio St. Yet they themselves rant and rave about going 11-2, needing staff changes, etc etc. Those poor few commenters that don’t tow the party line get their comments grayed out. It’s a fucked up forum for mostly fucked up people. They ran the guy out of town because of his attempt to be an unbiased national analyst.
January 7th, 2024 at 3:55 AM ^
Ive noticed that its like white out for the internet. How terrible.
January 7th, 2024 at 12:13 AM ^
Not surprised they are salty, they seem to have had no idea this was the case until Herbstreit told them. They certainly don't talk like that on their board. In fact they were actually lamenting how the guys who decommitted from them were just chasing the bag and not bought in to the wholesome Ohio State culture and values while they were literally holding their breath waiting for the NIL wire to clear for their #1 receiver target a few weeks ago.
They are disconnected from their own reality, so yeah they would not have seen this truth bomb coming.
