I hope you do realize that star rankings of all years really don't mean shit this year. Half the country didn't play football and there were zero scouting camps up until recently.  That's why Michigan is relying so heavily on kids working out on their official visits.  So, try to pull back some of the snarky comments until there's actually a real high school football season.

I don’t know how true it is, but I read a comment somewhere that approximately 90% of all high schools played at least half of their scheduled games in either the fall or spring and recruiting rankings may be as accurate as any other year. Rankings this year are more dependent on their game film than camp settings, which could be a net positive, but rankings also are affected by the interest from power programs and since that was delayed, we will see some movement, but probably not a significant change versus prior years. - Again, I don’t know if that’s true, but it sounds plausible.

They cancelled an entire camp season last year and scouting at actual high school games by the recruiting services is extremely limited to begin with, probably moreso with limited/zero attendance at the football games that WERE played.

Your scenario really doesn’t sound at all plausible. The recruiting sites rely HEAVILY on the camp circuit for their player evaluations. They’ll evaluate film too but their football game evaluations are typically limited to big time matchups. There really isn’t any way to sit there and say with a straight face that the sites aren’t behind where they would be in normal years in their evaluations.

So wherever you read that was blowing smoke. Maybe a recruiting site trying to feign some real credibility to their rankings this year (a bunch of people realizing the recruiting rankings are less reliable this year probably isn’t good for site clicks). Either way, no way at all is it a rational take.

So, do you think that schools such as Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Georgia, Texas, Clemson, Florida State, Florida, USC, Auburn, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Penn State and Notre Dame have all forgotten how to recruit? That they're all befuddled by star rankings, while only Michigan can really recognize talent? OK!

Micah Pollard looks like he can become a solid player. But I don't know why you think Michigan is destined to outperform the rankings, while all these other schools will flounder.

This is hilarious, simply because you don't know what you just said.

You mentioned Auburn and their ability to recruit.  They aren't "befuddled by star rankings, while only Michigan can really recognize talent", so you say.  Interestingly enough....guess who finished second to Michigan in the Micah Pollard commitment?  You guessed it....Auburn!  ? ? ?

They really wanted him.  All you have to do is go to one of their fan pages, and you'll see.  That or their recruiting media coverage.

Maybe, just maybe, there might be something to this strange "in person" evaluation method of recruiting players.  Maybe....I know it's strange and all.....the coaches know a little bit about football.  Maybe they know what they are looking for, and aren't relying on only offering players that recruiting sites make 4-5 star players, EARLY IN THE PROCESS, after not seeing these kids play most or all of their seasons or camps?  I know....what a crazy way of thinking that is.  ?

Or like the 3* TE we got last week with a Bama offer? Or the 3* OL we got that didn’t have an evaluation or even a profile on two of the three sites but had offers from Georgia and Penn State?

I mean the list goes on and on. The teams he mentioned don’t care about the recruiting rankings either. They ALSO do their own evaluations and sometimes, there is an overlap where the recruiting rankings match up with what the evaluations say. Other times you have a highly ranked kid with an abysmal offer list and a low ranked kid with a major offer list (Rutgers has a top 100 commit with an ND offer and his next best offer is... Mizzou? GT? Oregon?)  . Other times you have a school uncover someone that NOBODY else does (Ronnie Bell? Le’Veon Bell?).

Needless to say, these coaches don’t rely on the recruiting sites to build their recruiting board. These coaching staffs are scouting and evaluating talent for YEARS before they’re ranked by the sites. They’ve already identified the majority of their offers before the rankings come out and they still rely on their own evaluations even after those rankings.

Id be curious to see the narrative of some of these star gazers that are down on the current rankings of the class once some of these guys actually get evaluations and see their rankings increase. What do the people crying about getting a 3* have to say when the sites catch up and the guy is all of a sudden a 4*.

So Michigan is battling a variety of other teams, such as Auburn, for 3* players (as well as some blue chips). You win some and you lose some. But it appears that these other teams can also identify 3* talent, doesn't it? That Michigan coaches are not the only ones able to do so. Why, then, do you out of hand dismiss the ability of those same teams to furthermore identify blue chip talent, but instead claim that Michigans's 3* must be better than other teams' 4* and 5* players?

Hey, Michigan has a solid class developing. You should welcome and support them as they are. Some, but certainly not all, will surprise you.
