Harbaugh's Response to Santa's Tweet
Seems like a good sign.
Though I'm disappointed JH is doing this again, I'm still rooting for him to stay.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:25 PM ^
Jim's response is vanilla. As long as Santa ono wants to do everything to keep Harbaugh, there is a little more hope than there was earlier today.
Buckle up this ain't over with yet.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:58 PM ^
It will be over tomorrow
January 12th, 2023 at 5:32 PM ^
This is getting good. I need popcorn.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:35 PM ^
I know I should not be following this saga with hourly clicks on MGoBlog but cannot wait for this to end.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:49 PM ^
There are a number of current events with solutions this board likely could solve if followed but common sense isn't.
I only follow paths now that lead to circumstances of my choosing since you can't control what you can't control.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
Seems like the kind of thing to ignore until it's all done. In the meantime, Nyckoles Harbor highlights! jk
January 12th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
I have to say, I am coming around to the "Warde is the problem" position.
January 12th, 2023 at 8:37 PM ^
Definitely hard not to see it that way.
And if he screwed up Belien and Bakich, fired him tomorrow
January 12th, 2023 at 9:26 PM ^
Not sure if this deserves it's own thread or not, mostly because I am totally ignorant of what some of this is about or whether they are all actually even up to Warde to rectify these situations. But check out what Lauren says here:
January 13th, 2023 at 6:44 AM ^
Lauren, who are you? And it's "too" by the way.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:37 PM ^
Warde is done
January 12th, 2023 at 5:45 PM ^
We can only hope.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:38 PM ^
Santa Ono leaned forward across the table and looked up at the two men on either side, his eyes twinking behind his round wire-rimmed glasses.
"I'd like to thank both of you for coming here. First of all, I think we're all on the same page here so we're all here to crystallize that." He nodded at the hulking bald man to his left.
"Well, um..... well, Jim, I think we would all love for you to stay at Michigan as the J. Ira and Nicky Harris Football coach. We're prepared to offer you a lucrative new contract that's highlighted by renaming the head football coaching position to be the J. Ira, Nicky Harris, and Jim Harbaugh Football coach. That is, to me, a truly transformational experience."
Santa suppressed a grimace and looked at the lean jut-jawed man to his left in khakis and cleats.
Jim Harbaugh stared ahead blankly. After a few minutes of awkward silence, he took a burger out of a brown bag and started eating it.
Warde Manuel continued. "Um... if you read the fine print, you'll see that we obviously want to do right by both you and the University, in keeping with our mission statement to be the Leaders and Best."
Harbaugh continued munching the hamburger. A spritz of mustard squirted out onto the table. All three men ignored it.
"...and obviously," Warde stammered "We'll pick up the tab for your lunch there if you'll sign this expense report." He fumbled in the inside pocket of his suit, produced a form, signed it and slid it over the table to Harbaugh.
Harbaugh put down the burger and signed it. He then took the cyan sharpie dangling from his lanyard and circled the other man's signature while looking intently at Santa Ono.
Ono favored Harbaugh with a slight nod and clasped his hands together with the faint hint of a smile. "Well, gentlemen, I think we're done here."
January 12th, 2023 at 6:45 PM ^
damn, that's some Hemingway level shit right there!
January 12th, 2023 at 6:55 PM ^
This must have taken place at the Brown Jug, right? Jim wanted to make sure he couldn't be accused of negotiating during a dead period, and it met NCAA regulations.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:56 PM ^
Never thought I'd see UM fanfic... Times, they are a changin.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:20 PM ^
The spritz of mustard was a really nice touch. Well done!
January 12th, 2023 at 8:31 PM ^
Mustard doesn’t spritz
January 12th, 2023 at 5:39 PM ^
Santa's involvement suggests some displeasure with how Warde is handling the negotiations, and Harbaugh's statement acknowledging Santa but not Warde suggests that Harbaugh would bounce if it wasn't for Santa. I can't think of another instance in which the university president had to get directly involved in the AD's contract negotiations with a head football coach coming off a wildly successful two-year run. We wouldn't be hearing from Santa if there weren't problems. Not a good look for Warde.
This reminds me of how Mary Sue had to get involved when it became clear that Bill Martin was mismanaging the search for Lloyd Carr's successor.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
Harbaugh’s message is from an AD controlled Twitter account. I wouldn’t read into his statement as being a dig at Warde. If Harbaugh used his own Twitter account to respond to Santa Ono, then there might be something there. Warde probably wrote the message and gave it to an intern to post.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:24 PM ^
His statement wasn't a dig at all. He said he appreciated the message which was that Santa and Warde are in agreement on wanting Harbaugh to stay.
January 12th, 2023 at 8:23 PM ^
The question isn’t whether Warde wants Harbaugh to stay, the question is how committed is Warde to fully making UM into a football superpower (NIL, fighting the NCAA’s bullshit, etc)
January 12th, 2023 at 10:19 PM ^
Harbaugh didn't need to officially respond to Santa's tweet. The fact that he did, and the fact that Santa mentioned Warde but Harbaugh only mentioned Santa, had to have been deliberate.
January 12th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
His wishy-washy statement about not knowing the future and how he "expected" to be coaching Michigan in 2023 was also issued through official AD channels. Yes, he probably didn't sit down and author it himself, but it was deliberate, and he surely signed off on it.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:50 PM ^
This reminds me of how Mary Sue had to get involved when it became clear that Bill Martin was mismanaging the search for Lloyd Carr's successor.
Yes, I hope we have a similarly excellent outcome this time.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:28 PM ^
Mary Sue also had to step in when the Mel Pearson situation turned ugly. I don't think it's a good thing that Warde needs to be micromanaged by the president of the university whenever there's a major decision being made on a high profile Michigan coach.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
100%
The president of the university should not have to issue a statement like this. It’s clearly someone else’s job. Someone who is either unwilling or incapable of doing it.
January 12th, 2023 at 7:51 PM ^
gawd, nobody “has” to issue a goddamned statement.
January 12th, 2023 at 8:32 PM ^
Agreed. I don't get why people are falling over themselves because one guy tweeted and the other guy didn't.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:39 PM ^
If the president of the university wants to get this done, it will get done, one way or another. Santa seems too smart to get out on a limb where he would likely be trashed for not getting the deal done after interjecting himself into the situation.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:40 PM ^
It’s interesting harbaugh didn’t mention Warde.
I wonder if this is setting up Warde to be the fall guy if Harbaugh leaves.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:41 PM ^
I don't think he enjoys Warde these days!
January 12th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
It’s an AD controlled Twitter account, not Harbaugh’s personal account. There is nothing to read from that statement.
January 12th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
Jim loved Hackett. Pleaded with him to stay. Probably really misses him now.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
Can't wait for this dalliance year after year until he leaves for the NFL. I guess that's the price of success, but man it's annoying.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
You guys are like a bunch of girls watching the newest season of "Housewives of Ann Arbor."
January 12th, 2023 at 5:47 PM ^
And yet here you here....
January 12th, 2023 at 6:27 PM ^
Yes, here I am, not reading this for the so-called info on what's going on behind the scenes but reading it for the comedy of my fellow fans and the drama that they generate around this with very little actual information. It's hilarious!
January 12th, 2023 at 5:59 PM ^
Shhhh...waiting for the climax.
January 12th, 2023 at 8:14 PM ^
On the next Housewives of Ann Arbor:
"I can't believe Rita came back. She brought her nacho dip with her too. Look at all the men around her. Bitch."
January 12th, 2023 at 5:46 PM ^
Reading between the lines, I'm going to go out on a limb that this is very positive news.
This latest statement from Harbaugh isn't cryptic, it's pretty straight-forward.
Could that be a sign of maybe Santa telling Jim "Hey, we are so close. Can you just release something to our students, alumni, fans, etc. etc. that doesn't leave them questioning things even more?"
Maybe I'm overthinking it, but this latest message from Jim tells me things are going in the right direction.
Warde's name being completely excluded from Jims statement is Jim's way of saying "This conversation was for men only" (IYKYK)
January 12th, 2023 at 5:50 PM ^
I just wish they would have discussed it over a couple breakfast burgers at the Brown Jug.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:52 PM ^
With fries
January 12th, 2023 at 6:38 PM ^
Whoa there, don’t go nuts.
January 12th, 2023 at 5:57 PM ^
Was this really necessary to post when this response was linked in the first few responses on the other post?
January 12th, 2023 at 6:02 PM ^
I think this is a valid message to post.
The post earlier was around Santa's tweet.
Yes, Harbaughs tweet was later included in a few responses to that post, that you have to scroll to find, but this is a separate topic around Harbaughs response to discuss it.
You know.. Like the snowflake threads after games.
Just my 2 cents.
January 12th, 2023 at 6:14 PM ^
Yes, because I stopped reading the Santa thread after the 12th consecutive comment about gramar
January 12th, 2023 at 8:38 PM ^
Your spelling sucks, and this thing actually spell checks for you!
