I have to imagine that poor damn Coach Harbaugh suffered a fair amount of birthday/Christmas combination when he was young. I did, and my birthday was the 14th. My immediate family was pretty good about keeping it separate, but others not so much.
So, on this day so close to Christmas, let me separate the two - Happy Birthday, Coach Harbaugh, and thanks for the year you and your team have given us! Win or lose on New Year's Eve, we've already won. 42-27. Let's hope your 58th year is just as happy as Year 57 has turned out to be!

December kid here. My birthday is the 28th. I'm from a big family. My mom went out of her way to make sure my birthday was special and not combined with Christmas. I guess that's because her birthday is the 21st of December so she understood.

Also a December baby here. My parents were very good about separating birthday from Christmas.
I think most parents understand that this kind of thing matters to a kid. The real downside of a December birthday isn't that it gets overlooked, but just that you have to wait 11 months for presents.

My mom was born on Christmas day. We did the presents in the morning, followed by a big breakfast, then from dinner on it was all birthday. My dad made sure the kids each had both a Christmas present and a separate birthday present.

As a December baby, same here.
And a very very small nitpick, this is actually going to be his 59th year. When you turn 1, you enter your 2nd year, not your first. I know this because my grandfather would always say "you're going into your (age plus 1) year!" And confuse me as a kid, lol.

The reversal of the sentiment toward Jim Harbaugh reminds me of what we went through with Lloyd Carr. I recall the old “Sack Carr” website that eventually reversed field and changed the banner to Sack Carr?!? when he found a way to turn 7-5 into 11-2.

Me too. He was a 5th year senior, so he did not graduate until spring of '87. I think his freshman year he was RS in '82. I was a freshman in '81.

There have been some great moments.
You had at times though, 'everybody' against you. (Especially the media).

I didn't realize that I'm a half year older than Jim. I was also a year ahead of him at Michigan. Jim will really have a happy Birthday if he can go on to win a NC!

On a personal note, I am unbelievably satisfied with his on field results. That said, these rewards and the recognition really are, the icing on the cake.
I have given my “why intelligent Michigan fans like Jim Harbaugh” elevator speech at least 50 times over the last couple of years to all my fanatical NCAA football brethren here in Ohio. Not just the OSU fans but also the ND, PSU fans as well. Everyone loves to question and ridicule Harbaugh.
I expect this conversation will be easier and much more fun from here on out.
