I thought his name was actually "Greek Rifle" Imagine my disappointment.

Dude was actually enrolled at Michigan once upon a time.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:43 PM ^
Wasn't he like a year away from being our starting center? He was a weird transfer if I remember correctly
November 28th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
Indiana just can't hold on to those recruits for some reason.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:58 PM ^
Tom Allen being fired probably has a lot to do with that.
November 28th, 2023 at 5:13 PM ^
"for some reason"
gestures vaguely
November 28th, 2023 at 6:09 PM ^
Don Chaney Jr would be great for a Gus Johnson broadcast. And his hair was perfect.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:10 PM ^
Greek Joe Milton.
November 28th, 2023 at 5:04 PM ^
me too. sadly, it's just "kyle mcmanis"
November 28th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
Is he going to try to go back to high school?
November 28th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
Dudes gotta be transferring down to G5 or FCS right? He's not good
November 28th, 2023 at 2:55 PM ^
I would allow it.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:56 PM ^
MSU just lost another to the portal...Noah Kim
November 28th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
J Smith cleaning house! With Kim, Leavitt and Houser all in the portal do they have even one scholarship QB left on the roster?
November 28th, 2023 at 3:14 PM ^
They do not. Looks like the only remaining QB is Andrew Schorfhaar, a RS Junior walk-on from DeWitt.
November 28th, 2023 at 4:22 PM ^
If he has hair like Nick Sheridan, he'll do fine against Minnesota.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:58 PM ^
Did they relocate the Titanic? Or, perhaps, was it renamed.. The Spartanic?
November 28th, 2023 at 2:59 PM ^
Adding new meaning to the phrase "If you have three QBs, you have no QB."
November 28th, 2023 at 3:00 PM ^
As much crap as we give to msu, you gotta feel for these kids who were completely screwed over by Mel Tucker. Somehow, Michigan and Harbaugh ended up as the villains of this college football season, not the guy who sexually harassed a rape survivor/activist and hung these kids out to dry.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
Tucker's story came and went. He's not not a villain.
More attention on Harbaugh because there's always more attention on UM than MSU.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:08 PM ^
Tucker's story came and went.
Much like Tucker himself!
November 28th, 2023 at 3:27 PM ^
I was wondering if anyone was going to deposit that softball into the seats.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:29 PM ^
Yep. He really phoned it in
November 28th, 2023 at 3:57 PM ^
You're right but Andrew's point is still an important one: Harbaugh is good to and for his players, while Tucker hurt his.
November 28th, 2023 at 4:23 PM ^
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:12 PM ^
Not disagreeing - but, it began with Dantonio - who left the players he recruited / committed / signed - and the MSU Administration in an unwinnable situation.
Dantonio - taking his bonus money and saying “Sayonara” is why Tucker was there in the first place.
I feel for the players.. and some of the fans.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:19 PM ^
I remember when D'Antoni offered Mel a 95M contract after beating Michigan once. They bought it, they own it.
November 28th, 2023 at 4:03 PM ^
The only thing screwed by Tucker was his hand. They knew exactly what type of program and school they are signing with.
Ad a Dad of daughters that campus is the only one blacklisted, (and Baylor but not going out of state). They need a complete cleaning house of their administration top to bottom.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
Holy shit. There goes like three years of PJ Fleck's QB recruiting efforts.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:06 PM ^
If Darius Taylor doesn't also transfer you could knock me over with a gopher tail.
November 28th, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
I couldn't understand why Fleck took that job. He's done pretty well overall, all things considered, but Minnesota is just a really tough job. He almost certainly could have parlayed his WMU success into something better.
November 28th, 2023 at 4:31 PM ^
Perhaps, but if you go 3-6 in the Big Ten West then perhaps you just aren't that great of a coach.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
Hello G5 downtransfer.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:15 PM ^
I'm thinking more like FCS or DII. Dude is not it.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:57 PM ^
Not that it matter much in the days of the portal, but I recently heard a podcast that noted that Fleck had put all his chips in on AK and the rest of the Minnesota QB cupboard was bare.
Poor PJ Fleck!
/s
November 28th, 2023 at 4:11 PM ^
The portal gives and the portal takes away. It seems like there is no shortage of options available to Fleck, and it isn't a completely unattractive destination if he can fix the O-line issues.
November 28th, 2023 at 4:12 PM ^
They talked about that during our game I believe. Fleck promised him he wouldn't recruit a QB before or after him. Making that kid the only QB brought in for 3 cycles. Another example of why coaches should never do that.
When they were interviewing Fleck after the Iowa win, he mentioned how they had to have a sit down with him after the North Carolina debacle. It was something like an all day meeting, tears were shed, come to Jesus type thing. Made me think he was a little too comfortable knowing he was it as QB options went and didn't have to put in the work.
November 28th, 2023 at 2:58 PM ^
Actually, this reminds me, didn't Spencer Petras declare for the portal?
November 28th, 2023 at 4:26 PM ^
Yes. I'm sure there are a lot of suitors for backup QBs from that Iowa offense.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:02 PM ^
and there is msu's next quarterback
November 28th, 2023 at 3:05 PM ^
He's got the physical tools to be really good, but his accuracy was inconsistent, he loved throwing into tight coverage, and the Gophers only had one real receiving threat in Daniel Jackson (the guy who caught the TD against Michigan), who he would get locked on to regularly.
Kind of surprising decision considering he was only a redshirt sophomore, although the Gophers were openly shopping for transfers the second the season ended. Hope he finds a good landing spot.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:08 PM ^
As was pointed on our this weeks podcast, he also would have been a better qb for them in the tanner morgan style team with a solid o-line and run game to support
November 28th, 2023 at 3:16 PM ^
That was another factor, the running game was down to starting a walk-on RB4 (Jordan Nubin, Tyler's brother). He did ok, but the running game was never really much of a threat after Darius Taylor went down.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:17 PM ^

Yeah, maybe that's it? Outside of coaching changes, players typically transfer for one of two reasons: good players transfer up for exposure, winning, NFL development, etc., and guys transfer down for playing time. He was a mediocre (if not outright bad) returning starter, meaning good programs probably wouldn't be interested, with no obvious candidates on the roster pushing him from behind (like Rudock with Beathard at Iowa, or Cade with JJ here). So unless he got the impression that he was being recruited over via the portal, playing time shouldn't have been an issue either. Just strange all around...
November 28th, 2023 at 3:11 PM ^
There are already a bunch of QBs in the portal (with the number sure to grow exponentially) and some of them will be left holding the bag. Too many of these guys think the grass is greener. Speaking of Johnathan Smith - his former QB at Oregon State ended up at third string at OSU because he didn’t want to fight it out at Oregon State. The need for immediate satisfaction is ridiculous.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:19 PM ^
Tristan Gebbia? He last got meaningful PT in 2020 and was buried on the depth chart for 2021 and 2022. His starting career was done unless he moved way down the ranks of CFB.
November 28th, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
Yes. Agreed. He is just the example that comes to mind of the portal not working in a QBs favor. He should have gone somewhere like San Jose St. Hopefully Kaliakmanis makes a good decision and goes somewhere that fits his ability.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:12 PM ^
If you're like me, you're wondering whether Minnesota has a functional QB left on their roster (someone at MN had a quick trigger - Athan is already off the roster!).
The answer is no.
Cole Kramer, redshirt senior, has 2 rushes for 3 yards, and is 0/1 passing this year and 5/8 last year.
Max Shikenjanski, 3-star true freshman, does not have any stats.
Drew Viotto, 2-star true freshman, does not have any stats.
Drake Lindsey, incoming 3-star high schooler, is on his way.
Gotta imagine that PJ is going to bring in a transfer QB.
Gird your loins, because the Gophers are gonna suuuuuuuuuck next year.
November 28th, 2023 at 3:40 PM ^
(someone at MN had a quick trigger - Athan is already off the roster!).
Damn, you weren't kidding. I wouldn't be surprised if Fleck cut off Kaliakmanis mid-sentence to call up the web team and have them scrub his name.
Sounds like Goldy is going hard after FCS-New Hampshire transfer Max Brosmer.
