Good news about our defense?
Quote by Ronnie Bell about the scrimmage this week makes our defense sound promising. I know it's camp talk but.... This is from Angelique via Twiiter:
Receiver Ronnie Bell said the defense had the advantage in Wednesday scrimmage at Michigan Stadium: "We got our butts kicked yesterday. The defense was flying around, I love it. I’m on the offensive side of the ball and I’m excited just watching them."

I think it's called "Pink Flamingos".

The dreaded double post
August 27th, 2021 at 12:15 PM ^
Ronnie Bell plays on offense. He can't "show you" anything on defense. He's not making any bold proclamations, he's just complimenting his teammates.
August 27th, 2021 at 1:35 PM ^
Maybe Darker Blue, like Ronnie, is from Missouri...
August 27th, 2021 at 1:33 PM ^
Appears Ronnie saw!
At what point do you trust a Missourian? Or does every damn one need to see?!?!?!?
August 27th, 2021 at 7:53 AM ^
Off season hype - hardly anyone buys it anymore. This also could mean our offense is terrible. My days of always assuming the best about Michigan football are sadly over.
August 27th, 2021 at 8:52 AM ^
This year, last year, RR years,, Brady Hoke years, when exactly did it stop?
August 27th, 2021 at 8:53 AM ^
Some off season hype is valuable.
This ain't it. For the reason you mentioned...it could just mean the offense sucks.
But I do believe some of the hype is real.
McCarthy is a year away from being at a Shea Patterson level and has the potential to go far beyond that.
Cornelius Johnson and Zak Zinter have taken steps forward.
Mazi and Jeter both show flashes of greatness and CAN BE top level defenders (but likely won't because of consistency).
Nikhai Hill-Green and RJ Moten have taken steps forward.
DJ Turner is one I won't believe until I see it...Vincent Gray is the competition.
August 27th, 2021 at 9:05 AM ^
I’m prepared to see Mazi/Jeter pancaked by a 2 star western Michigan guard on the first play next week.
August 27th, 2021 at 10:03 AM ^
Harsh, and yet imaginable, sort of.
August 27th, 2021 at 12:34 PM ^
Never experienced such a bunch of whining, butt-hurt pu$$ies in all my life.
Go get 'em boys. It's going to be a great season!

+1 for Yossarian and his tree.

Who's the Butthurt?
Those who complain?
OR
Those who complain about the complaining?
August 27th, 2021 at 9:18 PM ^
The frustrating part is they'll blow that same kid up on the next play on the way to Alan Branching their way to the QB.
Again, CONSISTENCY is the issue with them. Flash All-American all you want...but it doesn't matter if you follow it up with an enormous mistake.
August 27th, 2021 at 9:13 AM ^
OK, let me get this right:
McCarthy is a year away from being at a Shea Patterson level. (My lord I hope not)
Cornelius Johnson and Zak Zinter have taken steps forward. (This doesn't really tell us much, does it? )
Mazi and Jeter both show flashes of greatness and CAN BE top level defenders (Haven't we heard this about Jeter before?)
Nikhai Hill-Green and RJ Moten have taken steps forward. (Again, from what? we don't know anything about them)
DJ Turner is one I won't believe until I see it...Vincent Gray is the competition. (You believe the other stuff, but not this?)
August 27th, 2021 at 9:50 AM ^
I told Harbaugh to keep McCarthy away from the golf course.
August 27th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
I hope Michigan never had another Shea Patterson level qb. Couldn't appropriately decide when to keep or pull and accuracy was horrible down field. No thank you.
August 27th, 2021 at 11:00 AM ^
Shea was 10,000x better than Joe Milton.
August 27th, 2021 at 11:19 AM ^
Shea's 2 seasons as a full-time starter were both among the top 10 passing yards ever for a UM QB (#2 in 2018 and #9 in 2019) -- now obviously that does not tell the full story (he started more games than most in those years, the game has evolved and more passing attempts and yards are to be expected, etc.)... HOWEVA, to deny that Shea was an above average UM QB is just stupid
August 27th, 2021 at 12:23 PM ^
I agree, some of the Shea Patterson dislike is way too harsh.
He certainly wasn't a bad quarterback, I'd definitely take Patterson over Milton, O'Korn and Speight.
August 27th, 2021 at 1:30 PM ^
2016 Speight > Shea ever
August 27th, 2021 at 12:21 PM ^
That heavy shot to his ribs on the first play of the season didn't help. He's still the best we've had since Rudock.
August 27th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
you misspelled Rudddddock
August 28th, 2021 at 1:36 AM ^
If JJ McCarthy starts next year where does that put Cade McNamara?

This has to be the only fanbase that eats itself. Red Sox pre-2004 was maybe worse. But not by much.

BPONE — not just a word, but a way of life.
August 27th, 2021 at 12:45 PM ^
It's become the hip thing. We suck. Bad news shows we suck. Good news is just smoke and mirrors hiding how we suck. Hype is just propaganda to hide how we suck. I've spoken to people that said '18 and '19 were 'shitty seasons'. Well, then all of the seasons I went through when I was a student were 'shitty seasons'. Somehow I managed to enjoy them despite some losses.
August 27th, 2021 at 2:55 PM ^
The “hip” thing? So when Jim Harbaugh was hired you expected 3rd-4th place finishes in the Big 10 east, 1-4 in bowls, 0-5 OSU, 3-3 MSU, historic back to back clubbings by Wisconsin?
Damn, I wish I would have had your insight. I could’ve saved myself a lot of heartache. Good news is I’ve never had lower expectations than I do for this season! That 2020 MSU game destroyed me in a way no other game, not even OSU 2018 did. Maybe I’ll be surprised on the positive side for once!
August 27th, 2021 at 4:13 PM ^
You are kinda proving our point, sport.

I tend to be optimistic. However, using a quote from Spiro Agnew is not very reassuring!

You must've been jones'en to use that phrase, because Indy is consistently one of the most positive posters on this board.
August 27th, 2021 at 9:25 AM ^
Yep. Years of fall camp hype have got me conditioned to think when one side of the ball whips the other, it's not because one side is good but because the other side stinks.

The media never ever asks Bama or OSU how practice went! These players should just not ever do pressers because it makes some people on the internet upset. tAlK iS cHeAp.
