Good article about possible transfers to Michigan

Five interesting guys who are likely to go into the portal, three of whom we recruited heavily.
One typo in the section about the Bama WR - they mistake Tyler Morris for Roman Wilson.
Of course we hope that JJ and Wilson come back next year, but I would be happy taking any or all of these guys.

Only one QB on that list and lots of defensive players. I feel like Michigan will be pretty good on defense next year. They need to portal a QB and hopefully some OL and a WR. Maybe they can get Jalon Daniels or Cam Rising?

I also thought Maalik Murphy was a reasonable option because IF Arch is the anointed one Murphy's time in Texas will come to an end sooner rather than later; to be clear I am not saying Arch is going to be any good, that is just how it has been framed. And Michigan was hard after Murphy before he chose Texas. I also think Riley Leonard at Duke makes a lot of sense because it is likely his coach will be leaving for greener pastures. Duke is a high level academic institution so a transfer to Michigan makes sense. Of course Leonard could stay put, or transfer to whatever school Elko ends up at, but a year at Michigan, a complete team, makes a ton of sense for a guy looking to make himself appealing to NFL scouts.

It is just as likely that he would be the first qb off the board-the #1 pick and get paid a ton. It also makes sense to enter the draft early, with a strong class, in order to get picked later in the first round by one of the top organizations-instead of the bad ones who are drafting at the top. Very much a win-win for him. Otherwise, I have no idea what he will do. The current Michigan trend is that he returns.

Dude you have no idea, you are guessing and declaring it a fact.

That's not how any of this works.

He has shown near zero concern for his own stats, or how the game is called. He is the epitome of a team player, clearly loves Michigan and his coaches and teammates. He's exactly the type of guy I could see returning for his senior year, to cement his legacy in Michigan Football history. Not to mention, this season has been full of distractions, and bullshit.

It's no foregone conclusion that he leaves.

It's not absurdly strong.  It's Caleb and Maye at the top as 1A 1B depending on how the scouts view them.  Penix they have late 1st to 2nd in a lot of places lots of injury concerns.  Daniels has warts. As does Nix. There is no clear cut QB3.

Scouts could care less about Heisman.

And NFL teams (rightly) over draft QBs as it's the most important position in sports.

Anywhere from mid 1st to 2nd is where I have seen him but he will have great measurables and blow GMs away with his interviews etc.  That is a guy who will raise his stock after actual football is over by a lot.  There is really no clear cut guy after the top 2 who figure to go top 5.  Then it's pick your flavor by the GMs with everyone else.

Maalik Murphy is second on the depth chart behind Ewers.  No way he hits the portal.  Arch Manning is more likely.  Then, the mistake Morris for Wilson. This article is garbage.

#2 on the depth chart at QB...a backup is still a backup.

Arch can afford to wait. Maalik could absolutely feel like after two seasons, he's not going to sit for a third.

I could depend on how close he is to graduating. Because if he was an EE, he could stay and still grad transfer after next year and have 2 years of eligibility.

Being an underclassman transfer to Michigan is tough from Stanford (Myles Hinton)...I can't imagine it would work too well for Maalik when he's so close to a degree.

He will be second next year as well.  You think they paid all that money for Arch to sit the bench for 2 years?  Just because Murphy stayed this year, doesn't mean he will next year as well. But you may be right about the article.  Does just seem to mostly be most or all conjecture.

Based upon other threads on transfers, it sounds like admissions isn't the problem.  It's the departments who determine how many credits Michigan will accept from the players previous school.  Most transfers get admitted by UM.  The issue then becomes how many credits will UM accept.  Unless it's after their true freshman year or as a grad transfer, a lot of potential transfers decide not to come because of how many credits Michigan won't accept from their previous school.
