Go Corn vs Wisky open thread
go bigggg redddddddddd
GO BIG RED
I hate Wisconsin
Big Ten Network
(Echoes in here....!)
I figured ESPN or CBS would've picked this up as today's prime game
Hmmmmm. The Internet could have provided you the answer.
I have a feeling Nebrasketball will shine this evening
That atmosphere is electric already
Go Nebrasketball. The way the student section is set up there is exactly how they should do the Maize Rage.
Nebraska actually has the best home record in the conference so far.
Because we only have 1 conference loss and 2 overall (Wis., Ariz) while Nebraska has just the one (Mich)
Holy shitttt couldn't have started any better for Nebraska
I laughed a lot harder than I should have at the animation.
because I'm shocked the building didn't literally explode after that last three
Man it's rocking in there
And I thought Ohio was loud. This place is off the chain; would be fun to be there.
Wow it is loud in there. I don't think Nebraska loses tonight. They have way more to play for and that crowd is going bananas.
Cold blooded there by Petteway. Impressive
a win would put them in the top 50 for sure, but unfortuantly that would push out Minnesota who is at 50.
Well, Minny also won today, so it's possible both teams could move up and someone else get dropped.
That #2 seed in the Midwest would look pretty good with a NEB win here!
still a long way to go but so far so good for the Huskers...
I wish I was in that arena right now....unreal atmosphere
Wisconsin isn't particularly phased by the atmosphere and is starting to click
I forgot about those flashing lights that reflect on the court at Nebraska. That's annoying.
Yea they need to fix that by next year. No other complaints though, good game so far.
Hayes is a future All B1G player.
Both Firstrow and Vipbox say the video is not available yet.
My assumption regarding Bo Ryan kneeling by the bench is that he is merely looking for the right moment, should Wisconsin find themselves in a rough spot, to cast his trademark "Possessio Subtractorum" spell. If I were Nebraska, I wouldn't underestimate it as the shot clock will suddenly give the Badgers 35 years.
"Yeah just head down to Indianapolis and have SOME DELICIOUS BUFFALO WILD WINGS then go and tailgate with some DELICIOUS ORVILLE REDENBACHER POPCORN"
I seem to remember a Nebraska fan who was a fairly frequent poster not too long ago. I wonder what happened to him.
Besides that, go Nebrasketballllllllll.
or the day before. Chicago big red, no?
No Sit Sunday
This is a really good game so far - much better-played than the slopfest in Columbus.
I was about to write the exact same thing. This is an awesome game so far. And that atmosphere is crazy in Lincoln.
Go Big Red!
Agreed. That place has been rocking all night.
An assist to TO ratio that's negative? That's some crazy math right there. I think you mean an assit to TO ratio that's less than one.
That was definitely a kick ball.
and Wisconsin just hacked that Nebrasketball player going for the lay in with no call. Are our refs officiating?
How was there not a foul on that last drive? Jeez.
Because Wisconsin has never and will never foul.
Great half by Nebraska in spint of the officiating. Maybe they'll start getting calls in the second and pull it out!
So they play in Pinnacle Bank Arena but the floor is sponsored by First National Bank? Rival bank sponsors?
Is anyone else just waiting for the color guy to say 'mmmkayyy?'
I didn't notice at first but after reading that comment I lol'd.
Now that it's in your head, you won't be able to stop hearing Mr. Garrison's voice. If he'd just say "long 2 point jumpers are bad, mmmkay" it would really make my day.
bad guys at the break. Should be an exciting second half
A wisky loss means a #2 midwest seed with a #1 Wichita seed. Me likey.
I would NOT arm wrestle the woman that is on Nebraska's bowling team.
She could very well BE Nebraska's bowling team.
Wisconsin will be a tough game in the BTT. I'm glad they're on the other side of the bracket.
I love that even the fans in the pricey seats are standing the whole time
Think I saw on ESPN that we are a 2 seed now
games to be played.
Petteway is going to shoot Nebrasketball out of this game if he isnt careful
You mean the Player of the Year? *sarcasm*
Shields-Petteway-Pitchford is such a nice core. Retain Petteway next year and pray that Tai Webster makes a giant leap and they will be solidly in the tournament this time next year.
Pretty weak call
Very good game. Come on Nebrasketball.
Nebraska really blew a chance to take charge with Kominsky on the bench. You could see them get tight and push too hard when he went out. Still, if they can hit a few 3's down the stretch I think they can take the lead and hold Wisky off.
that Bo Ryan cut out that a fan had in the stands with his arms raised as in "What?" Funny.
Petteway with a HUGE hustle play
He's a gamer down the stretch.
WOW! That was a quick 5 point swing
Shields defending Nebraska's NCAA hopes.
This atmosphere is incredible
Let's go Huskers! I hear Badger tears are delicious this time of year!
If they win, we win the B1G by 3 games.
Why doesnt gallegos shoot more when he is wide open? That was the third time there was no one within 10 feet of him and he passed up a shot.
Pettiway still with the relatively poor shot selection.
Dekker travelled as well. Not that it matters.
It's good we won at Nebraska when we did.
Im liking this.
I hate that folks can just put a shoulder down and drive and get the call.
Color commentary is not the BTN's strong suit.
this is a fantastic effing game.
Locking up coty.
But that's ok.
HOLY MOLEY! Huskers gonna do this if they can hit FT's
I find myself cheering almost as hard for Nebraskaball as I do for Michigan. Almost.
That guy with the folding chair in the student section looks like he enjoys rules and fan guidelines.
It is fucking LOUD there.
Look, is there anyone who's not a Badger fan or Satan worshipper who isn't going hard for Nebraska right now?
It got up to 109db i think at the State game could be wrong but i think i remember them showing a decibel meter on the scoreboard
badgers going down barring a major collapse
I love where our program is at now and wouldn't trade it for anything. But man there is something exciting about being on the bubble and playing for your life for the final month of the season. I'm glad Nebrasketball has an awesome coach that I can cheer for. It has been fun cheering them on for the past few weeks.
Wow that was a horrible missed call. The ball clearly hit the end line
1:58 to go
Corn leads rodents 70 to 64 with 1.07 left.
Refs blew that
Fucking Frank Kaminsky. I hate that guy!
It's strange to see a non-white guy playing for Wisconsin
Should have been corn ball, not a Kaminsky 3.
Whew Pettaway got away with that one on defense
Ball hit OB TWICE and dumbass ref missed it
Dumbass ref who was RIGHT FUCKING THERE
Bad no call.
Just do it Nebraska, start a hockey team. I know you're next up
hopefully soon to be 15-1. So glad Michigan got a win at Nebraska on a close game. That was a huge win for Michigan though we didn't know at the time that Nebraska was going to be a tough out from then on.
1:36 to go. Nebraska shooting FTs.
Fuck yes this is a good day
Basketball god made sure that one went in
71-64 with 50.2 to go. Nebraska has the ball.
M is going to win the B10 by 3 full games. unreal
Hahahahaha what a steal and turnover.
Getting ready to rush the court only up 7 with :50.2 to go. That's no guarantee. They're asking for a soul-crushing defeat
Nebraska fans used telekinesis to put that 1st one in.
the court. 71-64 with :50 to go.
There is a court storm brewing...
..which is justified - their first tourney bid in 16 years is a big deal.
has never won a NCCA tourney game. Ever.
Yes, a tourney bid would be a big deal.
This game is their if they don't blow it. Good time out.
Nebraska so tight and so ready to choke.... If there was more time left this would be sad. But I think they can get out of here with the W
that some day we're going to regret rooting for Nebraska. Just not yet, though.
But a coach by the name of Tim Miles might be in the process of creating a monster.
We NEED more students near the court after the atmosphere Nebraska had today
We're 45-4 at home the last three years. Our homecourt advantage ain't bad.
Always root for improvement though.
So who wants to face Nebraska in the B1G Tourny?
The Ohio-Purdue winner will have that privilege.
If it's not in Lincoln, I'm fine with it. They're playing better on the road, but we still just absolutely annhilated them in Crisler.
Does Michigan jump Wisco on the s-curve now?
Bo Pelini always looks confused.
Nebraska needs to lock up Tim Miles to a lifetime contract immediately.
Shields and Petteway would be a cool duel with Nik and Caris in BTT. Unless Nik comes back next year, they'll be the best wing combo in the B1G.
Also, mark down a top 50 RPI win for us.
Yep, was just going to post this.
With Nebraska and Minnesota winning, that keeps all 4 wins over the two as vs top 50 rpi
DOUBLE POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BLUE
Two top 50 wins.
Great game and huge for us and them in multiple ways.
Close up of Bo Pelini not understanding how to act with a lead over Wisconsin.
Nebraska never won a game in the NCAA?!!!
football school you see
Yeah, we used to be too. Now it looks like we're both basketball schools.
They had a very good year already. Tournament will be bonus.
I maintain that Nebraska fans are tempting fate
And might give the B10 seven teams in. With Sparty dropping,a dn Iowa dropping, conference might have some really talented 6/7 seeds.
any POY or COY votes from M.
Expected: 2nd, Actual: 1st
Expected: 12th, Actual: 4th
I actually think this is close to a no brainer but that won't save MGoBlog from being shocked when Miles wins it
We were expected to finish 2nd when McGary went down?
but unless I missed it, they don't release new preseason media polls after every Big Ten game
The people who vote are aware of what Beilein has done. They don't need to look at a preseason poll to know that winning the league outright - by 3 games - without McGary is a hell of an accomplishment.
I hate when people assume COY goes to the greatest overachiever anyways. Michigan was the best team with the best coach. Shouldn't that lock up Coach of the Year?
Oh yea we swept Tim Miles and the 2nd game was a blowout, just for good measure.
The media had to turn in their votes at 6 before this game started
is an easy coach to root for. He seems like a genuinely good guy. And he's helping us!
I'd work an contract extension with Tim Miles ASAP. Look at the crowd and they are starting to believe in Nebraska. Nebraska is in great hands with him as the HC
So is Nebraska comfortably in now? What if they lose their first BTT game? Still feeling good even then?
Edit: BTN said only once has an 11-win B1G not gone to the tourney. That 19-11 record looks suspect but it looks like they're in good shape
they have to be in. they get the OSU/Purdont winner, which means worst case is they lose to OSU. that shouldn't knowck out a 11-7 B10 team.
If we can beat the Neb/osu winner, and minnesota can win a couple games, we will be in with a good 2 seed.
20-11 would look so much better for the selection comittee.
Good riddance to Wisconsin AND Bo Ryan.
What a day. It's not often where every team you root against actually loses.
The last two weeks have been close to perfection.
You go ahead and storm that court, Nebraska.
Won the conf by 3 fucking games. And thanks Nebraska, this could be big for us. But we have to beat you Friday
Saturday* if they beat OSU
And I'm pretty happy about a Wisconsin lost too.
Seems like an extremely pleasant man.
His demeanor is like a young Jim Beilein.
B10 likely to have a 2, a 3, and then maybe 4 6/7s and a play-in. Would not want to catch Iowa/Ohio/Sparty in the second round as a 2/3.
the enthusiastic joy on the face of Miles as Bo Ryan shook his hand. He looked like a kid on Christmas morning!
Bo Ryan, on the other hand, looked like...UGGHH!!...Bo Ryan.
2. Wisconsin 12-6
3. Msu 12-6
4. Nebraska 11-7
5. osu 10-8
6. Iowa 9-9
7. Minnesota 8-10
8 Indiana 7-11
9 Illinois 7-11
10 Penn St 6-12
11. Northwestern 6-12
12. Purdue 5-13
Winning the Big Ten regular season by 3 games!!!
With the exception of the always magnificant Michigan Wolverines, the Big Ten really at itself alive this year. No doormats, two elite teams (and one still took six losses).
So now we have to possibly play Indiana, again, or Neb in the tourney? Eh, I'm glad Wisco lost, but I don't like those draws...
That was our draw either way - this game had no impact
If Nebraska lost they would have been the 5-seed and OSU would've been the 4. I'd rather face OSU than Nebraska right now
The #4 and #5/#12 winner play each other on Friday.
Agree. While I think Neb wins the match up with OSU, I would rather be facing Neb on less rest. But the IU match up is what scares me the most of all teams. I'm a big Illini fan now.
Nebraska could win the whole damn BTT right now...
I think I like Tim Miles more every time I see him. Great job this year by a great coach.
We all like Tim Miles because he has yet to affect UM's season. It is easy to like a guy who beats everyone else and not us. ;) If for example Nebraska takes out UM in the BTT or next year splits we will be less fanciful with Mr. Miles. I do appreciate his personality even if one days he beats us.
On a serious note - yes he is a very good coach and I truly think he won't be in Nebraska more than 13 months.
Tim Miles seems like the type of guy to stay at Nebraska and build. Midwest guy, new facilities, a good young core, etc
It will be interesting to see if he does stay and build or goes to a more established program. I could see a Big East or Big 12 type program coming hard for him in a year, especially if Petteway stays and they have another top 4 finish next year. Nebraska seems to have invested a lot in their program in terms of resources.
paragraph, but I will disagree with your assertion that Miles will leave Nebraska any time soon. They have a great new arena and fantastic practice facility and a motherload of $$$ flowing in to their athletic program. What's to not like there for Miles? Why chase a bigger contract elsewhere and the pressure cooker that comes with it when there's no pressure to win every year in Lincoln, just overwhelming joy when you do win there?
I'd be surprised... no, very surprised, to see him leave in anything less than 4 years.
Well I don't know his personality and some guys like the pressure cooker. He might have hit the jackpot with Petteway and knows that, and sometimes you can ride one player (esp in b-ball) to the next level of coaching. If that is not his belief he might stay and build.
A lot will have to do with what openings come free in the next few years. If Gores goes after Izzo maybe he would go to MSU and he'd be suddenly a lot less likable ;)
I dont know how difficult it will or will not be to attract players to Nebraska in the long term, maybe not so difficult since in bball you need less players than football. Anyhow the guy from Wichita State is probably first in line from that region to get a sniff.
Wiscy and Virginia losses this weekend helped. I dont see much diff in a 2 v 3 seed (same first round opponents and face each other in sweet 16) but in terms of playing for location it should help us secure Milwaukee (Wiscy will probably be there as well - 2 teams can be in the same "pod" from diff regions)
A #2 seed in the midwest would be huge. This wisky loss may have clinched it.
Tellme why it would be HUGE! vs a #3 in say the East! Thanks!
Think about this for a second:
WE COULD HAVE LOST 3 MORE BIG TEN GAMES AND STILL SHARED THE BIG TEN TITLE.
The bottom of the B1G tourney bracket looks pretty tough. Glad UM is on the top.
I'm so happy for Nebraksa. I'm not sure why I've jumped on their bandwagon as much as I have but it feels good watching them succeed.
I'd parallel Neb in bball to Northwestern in football as to why they are likable. A non traditional power who beats some of our rivals but doesnt often actually beat us (I am excluding some of that RR era) ;) And a more likable coach than NWs. Until Nebraska begins to hurt us directly it will be like NW football... "cute" and admirable as they do "less with more".
p.s. pretty amazing we beat that team by 29 in AA.
The move to the B1G has not been a kind one for their Football team. They've lost their TX recruiting ground and have not had much to replace it except Pelini's rusty contacts in OH.
But in hoops, the move has been phenomenal for their program and its recruiting.
Well, for one thing, Nebraska fans are generally the polar opposite of OSU fans, but this year they also did us some huge favors by knocking off Sparty at their place after we lost to Wisconsin, and they also beat Wisconsin today and how can you not love any team that beats Bo Ryan?
Their run kind of reminds me of our team's performance after the Aneurysm of Leadership game. We were 1-6 or something like that going into Breslin that year and the team went on a run to get to 9-9 and get a Tournament bid to keep the momentum going.
Great win for both Michigan and Nebraska tonight.
gives the Coach of the Year award to Miles. Beilein took the league by 3 games after losing 2 guys to the NBA and one All American to injury. I can't see how Beilein loses but I would say Miles is deserving any other year.
I'd love to see Beilein get the Coach of the Year award, but I bet that Beilein would be equally happy to see Miles get it.
Also, damn - that UW/UN game had a marriage proposal beforehand from one of the Husker's seniors.
