Give Credit to Jeremy Gallon

Submitted by nmajali on

Just to set the record straight,. and because I had heard a lot of negative reviews of the guy in the offseason.

5-8 !!! Jeremy Gallon is a stud great football player, he did everything he was asked to do and more tonight..

Many team players did a super job tonight, but this is just to give some credit to this guy when to be honest I didn't expect him to produce at all tonight..

What a game!! GO BLUE..

They bailed Denard out big time today - Hemingway, Gallon, Roundtree - every one of them got a jump ball from Denard, and went up and got it. That second half - that fourth quarter - the offense as a whole - receivers, line, denard, smith - they were something else.

On a side not, I love Denard, and what I love about him the most is he KNOWS that all the attention he's getting should be going to the team as a whole - and he redirects it to them. Listening to his post-game interview, "defense made stops," "the line gave me time," "Roundtree made a play."

What a kid. So happy for him.

Gallon was great as was all the receivers but I have to say with last years Defense we would have been blown out ..This defense kept us in the game by forcing turnovers and getting very key stops on 3rd down ... Yes they gave up tons of yardage but we got stops and TO's when we needed

I've been a huge critic of the punt return scene over the past few years, and Gallon played a central role in that debacle last year.   I wanted to see Dileo handling punts this year.   But Gallon look very comfortable out there last night.   His PR in the 2nd half (ND's best punt, I think) provided some crucial breathing room.    Great night all around from him.

I don't think we should count on Gallon winning a lot of jump balls, though.  He adjusted beautifully on the TD catch (not so much a jump ball, but rather great ball adjustment skills), but his height was a factor in the jump ball goal-line pick Denard threw later in the game.  MOAR HEIGHT PLEASE!!

All in all, great game, Jeremy.   You contributed heavily to this game.   Enjoy your repeated cameo appearances on ESPN Classic for the next 30 years!

at least after last year definitely looked human.  not to take away from the incredible, amazing victory I do remember at least a few ARGH dropped passes.

Had Gallon not lost his fooring on that int in the 4th, I'm almost positive he would have gotten that one also.  Watch the replay, he was pulled by the defender and he stumbled backwards. it was definitely in his reach and after watching it a few times, I realized Denard actually put the ball in a pretty good spot

a few of Denard's underthrows were by design.  I have seen a couple of ND posts suggesting that the D-backs repeatedly failed to turn and look back for the ball in the first game and they were surprised to see the same mistake being made in the Michigan game -- but Michigan exploited it with short throws enabling the receiver to get body position on the D-back with his back to the ball.

He's definitely improved a lot since last year. While our PR and KR can still be improved, I don't feel nervous with Gallon back there anymore. If he keeps making strides, then maybe the 2013 receivers won't be so scary/unknown

Herbie and mushmouth were slamming Gallon for being short and how they would have preferred any number of taller previous WR.  Then we run the exact same route and he's wide open for 64 yards.

how was he that open?  I was at the game and that play was kind of going away from me and there were pompon all up in my face so I didn't see the play develope.  Was there a blown coverage?  That play was monsterous.

So did Vincent Smith.  I guess they aren't "too small" anymore.

As for "underthrowing," has anyone ever stopped to think that he is doing it on purpose?  If your receiver is covered, the only way he is going to catch it is if it is underthrown, and the defender's superior position is suddenly turned into an inferior position.

I hope opposing coaches and defenders never catch on.

Jeremy had a great game.  I about lost it on the second to last play when he grabbed the pass and streaked across the field.  He knew exactly what to do after he pulled the pass in.  Great presence of mind to get down field and then step out of bounds.

Great Game Jeremy!

Go Blue!

To pick nits...he did allow the pick in the endzone when he crossed up his feet.

I think he'd like that one back.  By all rights he should have had that one.  ND can cry about TOs but Michigan left some points on the field as well.

Gallon, and Hawthorne for that matter, are players.  It's great to see guys like this develop.  It gives me hope for the coming years where too many players are being asked to grow before their time.

I agree, jump balls to a 5' 8" WR isn't ideal, but the INT jump ball to him had a few issues other than his height.

When he needed to make a play he did and he was very solid at PR.  All part of the TEAM effort.

Being 5'8 with average speed, he would be trashed at a WR combine.  Goes to show how measurables once again don't tell the full story. Gallon is so quick, has good moves and appears to be a gamer.  Last night it really showed.

I like that he had the presence of mind to go upfield and gain more yardage on the big play, rather than just go out of bounds at midfield (which is normally what you're "supposed" to do there).  That was critical.  If he'd gone out immediately, we may not have even reached FG range on that drive.
