Sorry, it wouldn't let me edit:
for some reason I can't get this link to work.

If anyone has been watching Penn St. he reminds me of KJ Hamler, with more size.
They predict Michigan also:

"If anyone has been watching Penn St. he reminds me of KJ Hamler, with more size."
247 listed Hamler as 5-9/156; Jackson is listed at 5-8/175.
That's a good amount of mass on a short frame—I bet he shrugs off arm tackles pretty easily.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:31 AM ^
Speaking of Hamler...
How did we let him get away?
He was a St Marys kid who transferred to IMG if I'm not mistaken.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:35 AM ^
Michigan didn't recruit him that hard. I know he was a big MSU fan, and they had the inside track, but he transferred to IMG and blew his knee out and missed his senior year, and then PSU was all over him, and he committed to them. MSU must be really regretting it though, because he liked them a lot.
September 10th, 2018 at 9:15 AM ^
i was hoping for an offer to Hamler too... but just happened to be the year Michigan hit for the cycle on WR... DPJ, Collins, Black were all higher targets and Martin was a kid they really wanted.
no room for KJ that year unfortunately
September 10th, 2018 at 11:33 AM ^
I know Ace was leading the Hamler fan club on here. I think the consensus was, if Rich Rod was coach he would've been offered. It's too bad. He's the type of guy Brian wrote about not too long ago. The little speed guy that makes plays in space that every team seems to have except for Harbaugh's Michigan.
September 10th, 2018 at 12:25 PM ^
That guy that every team seems to have except for Harbaugh's Michigan... I thought that was a tackle?
(too soon?)
September 10th, 2018 at 12:47 PM ^
I wanted him badly. He is a lightening quick jitterbug who runs precise routes. He would have been killer in the slot. But I think Michigan felt he was just too small. They were targeting tall receivers that year. Huge miss in my opinion.
September 10th, 2018 at 2:29 PM ^
too be honest, until i see something that changes my mind, this wasn't a miss for Hamler himself... the reality is that Michigan, judging from the use of McDoom, Thomas, might not have done anything but use him on the jet sweep...
so for Hamler, going to a program that uses him properly and in a wider range of options is much better for his future....

Edit: looks like you got it to work.

Thanks, for some reason I can never do it right on my phone. Never had this problem before the updated site, ugh....

3.0 just likes to mess with us, sometimes it takes a minute to work for links, and for pictures sometimes it works immediately but then will show a red x. Such is life,... thanks for the good news, btw.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:18 AM ^
Have been a bit too busy to follow recruiting much this year. Where did we think he was going that makes this such a big surprise?
September 10th, 2018 at 8:21 AM ^
Because he's good
September 10th, 2018 at 8:22 AM ^
He was all Oregon. Clearly this is a Cade recruiting job.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:25 AM ^
This, plus he's a California kid and was visiting USC this weekend on an official.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:43 AM ^
More Oregon trying to get him to hold off. We are going to need a decent amount of early entrants, attrition, and/or non renewals of fifth year players to get this class to fit.
September 10th, 2018 at 10:12 AM ^
I can think of at least 2 early entrants that are pretty much for sure (Gary, Bush), and a couple more that could play their way there (Patterson, Hill).
September 10th, 2018 at 10:32 AM ^
Are we so sure Bush will go? I know Brian mentioned it a few times but isn't he small for the NFL? Or is this like a short PG deal where you're not gonna get taller so may as well go?
September 10th, 2018 at 10:39 AM ^
I mean that's true too (about not getting taller). But the NFL ideal is also changing, height doesn't matter as much any more if you can get sideline to sideline. Dude is also JACKED. Like, we all saw the pictures, but seeing him in uniform this year is insane.
September 10th, 2018 at 12:12 PM ^
That is what Brian has said but several NFL people have described him as the “new” prototype LB in the league. He will be gone this year.
With the size of this 2019 class It seems to me that the coaches expect 5-8 early departures- Gary, Bush, Patterson, Hill, Long, Hudson, a TE or 2, and maybe Bredeson in that order of likelihood. (For better or worse Dwumfor is no longer on this list imo)
September 10th, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
And there are likely some transfers due to playing time issues, being passed on the depth chart, other problems, etc. I think we can all think of a few possible names.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:31 AM ^
Here's his HUDL from last season:
https://www.hudl.com/profile/3208314/Giles-Jackson
The HUDL profiles lists him as 5-10/185, which is 2" taller and 10lbs heavier than 247.
I know (or assume) that he's only being looked at for offense, but judging from some of his highlights from this year he's laying some wood in open field tackles when he's on defense.
September 10th, 2018 at 9:00 AM ^
No! Can we please stop putting our best athletes on defense?! Imagining Jabrill Peppers as a full time pass catching back still depresses me.
September 10th, 2018 at 9:41 AM ^
Unless you play in the "Big" 12 you play your best players on defense.
September 10th, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^
So the fact that he was a 1st-team AA on defense (twice, according to SI) didn’t impress you?
September 10th, 2018 at 10:42 AM ^
Absolutely, Peppers impressed me with a great deal of the things he did on defense. But I still think he could have been amazing as an offensive player. It's just one of those things where I really wish I could glimpse the parallel universe where Peppers plays offense.
September 10th, 2018 at 11:07 AM ^
NCAA should repeal the platoon system rules and go back to all two-way players. I'm sure they'll get right on it. While they're at it, maybe they could once again ban the forward pass, since we haven't been so good at it lately.
September 10th, 2018 at 12:44 PM ^
I mean, aren't Charbonnet and Gray going to be more than enough out of the backfield? My concern is that we have too many athletes like that to get them all on the field. If he's moving to defense, it allows them to all coexist without crowding each other off of the field.
September 10th, 2018 at 3:11 PM ^
Giles Jackson is more of a slot. Gray and Charbonnet are RBs.
September 10th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
Thanks for the link.
Definitely don't see him being an elite RB. Maybe a slot, but if what you say is true about his DB skills I could live with that. Need to start reloading that position.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:33 AM ^
I'd be far more excited about this if I hadn't witnessed this team waste the offensive talents of such ninjas as Dennis Norfleet, Eddie McDoom, and Pepcat.
Insert grumpy cat here. Does he know he's signing up for a career of 2 jet sweeps per game and that's about it as far as touches?
September 10th, 2018 at 8:39 AM ^
Norfleet was very good in space against bigger defenders. (I also great enjoyed the Atomic Dog incident.) How to get him there, though? Eventually the sweeps became predictable. He didn't have the hands to be a great slot receiver.
- - -
I wonder if a Giles commitment will cause PTSD for some RichRod haters who remember half (or more) of his recruits as 5'8" and under.
September 10th, 2018 at 9:29 AM ^
Dennis Norfleet, fastest man to the 25 yard line.
Eddie McDoom, fastest man to the line of scrimmage.
Blocking issues and predictable playcalling didn't help their cases and while both were good in space (fast and quick twitch) they weren't good options in the passing game and neither possessed above average RB skills (cuts, power, vision, etc...)
The Pepcat fizzled due to predictability. Entire defenses would load the box and crowd the LOS. Combine that with the fact Peppers rarely got a breather, and it amounted to a workload and task even Jabrill couldn't overcome.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:48 AM ^
Whatever. The jet sweep is a mostly silly gimmick that needs to be file 13ed...though I did see some tricky variations over the WE. The kid will be an elite slot. Nobody could cover him at the Opening-NOBODY!!!
September 10th, 2018 at 11:08 AM ^
There was a small part of me that died and then a larger part of me that yelled out GODDAMNIT when Ambry came into the game on Saturday and they ran yet another sweep with him.
I mean...JFC...is there not even a smidge of offensive creativity on this staff, that the only play they can come up with for a player like that is a sweep?
If I never saw Michigan run another sweep play, I'd be pretty content.
September 10th, 2018 at 11:53 AM ^
Me too. You would think 20 years after Antonio Bass it would change, but no. As soon as he came on the field I thought jet sweep. They faked it to him and I was a little disappointed. That's ok though, I'm sure we'll see it a couple more times this year. Oh joy.
September 10th, 2018 at 10:46 AM ^
The only thing I miss about McDoom is his name, besides that, he didn't offer much. He was decently fast, a similar athlete to DPJ, but he also couldn't run routes well and had mediocre hands
September 10th, 2018 at 8:37 AM ^
Loving the weapon selections. I think we'll see our offense evolve into something much more explosive a la Ohio st, Okie st, Oregon, etc...
Once Harbaugh has his QBs fully developed (and a couple bookend OTs in place) it'll be a thing of beauty.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:46 AM ^
How long will that take ?? Another 4-5 years
September 10th, 2018 at 8:48 AM ^
Obvious OSU troll.
September 10th, 2018 at 9:03 AM ^
nope ... sounds just like Marcus Ray.
Go Blue!
September 10th, 2018 at 11:17 AM ^
My money is on him being "Phil", that negative dude that calls Sam's show to bitch and complain about Michigan.
September 10th, 2018 at 8:49 AM ^
Sounds like a very exciting prospect. Any concerns with having Jackson and Charbonnet in the same class? You can never have too much high-end talent, I guess?
September 10th, 2018 at 9:17 AM ^
completely different types of players; Jackson is moving to slot most likely at 5'9" 175... leaving Gray and Charbonnet as the RBs
September 10th, 2018 at 9:18 AM ^
Two very different weapons in those two. Giles is headed for slot. Maybe get some touches similar to Evan's but he and Zach aren't the comparison worry. If you're worried about that, Eric Gray would be more similar in that facet.
Gray is the back I'm actually most excited about.
September 10th, 2018 at 9:54 AM ^
dont want to bring you down but there are whispers on the interwebz that Gray will end up somewhere else by signing day.
I am personally more excited for Zach. The combo of size, speed and change of direction is on an Alabama level.
