Giles Jackson will be Blue

Submitted by ldevon1 on

Holy Moly, this is a big surprise. Sam just gave his "Gut feeling" on WTKA that Giles Jackson will be blue when he announces at 3:00 today.

Michigan didn't recruit him that hard. I know he was a big MSU fan, and they had the inside track, but he transferred to IMG and blew his knee out and missed his senior year, and then PSU was all over him, and he committed to them. MSU must be really regretting it though, because he liked them a lot.

too be honest, until i see something that changes my mind, this wasn't a miss for Hamler himself... the reality is that Michigan, judging from the use of McDoom, Thomas, might not have done anything but use him on the jet sweep...

so for Hamler, going to a program that uses him properly and in a wider range of options is much better for his future....

That is what Brian has said but several NFL people have described him as the “new” prototype LB in the league.  He will be gone this year.

With the size of this 2019 class It seems to me that the coaches expect 5-8 early departures- Gary, Bush, Patterson, Hill, Long,  Hudson, a TE or 2, and maybe Bredeson in that order of likelihood.  (For better or worse Dwumfor is no longer on this list imo)

Absolutely, Peppers impressed me with a great deal of the things he did on defense.  But I still think he could have been amazing as an offensive player.  It's just one of those things where I really wish I could glimpse the parallel universe where Peppers plays offense.

I mean, aren't Charbonnet and Gray going to be more than enough out of the backfield?  My concern is that we have too many athletes like that to get them all on the field.  If he's moving to defense, it allows them to all coexist without crowding each other off of the field.

I'd be far more excited about this if I hadn't witnessed this team waste the offensive talents of such ninjas as Dennis Norfleet, Eddie McDoom, and Pepcat.

Insert grumpy cat here. Does he know he's signing up for a career of 2 jet sweeps per game and that's about it as far as touches?

Norfleet was very good in space against bigger defenders. (I also great enjoyed the Atomic Dog incident.) How to get him there, though? Eventually the sweeps became predictable. He didn't have the hands to be a great slot receiver.

I wonder if a Giles commitment will cause PTSD for some RichRod haters who remember half (or more) of his recruits as 5'8" and under.

Dennis Norfleet, fastest man to the 25 yard line.

Eddie McDoom, fastest man to the line of scrimmage.

Blocking issues and predictable playcalling didn't help their cases and while both were good in space (fast and quick twitch) they weren't good options in the passing game and neither possessed above average RB skills (cuts, power, vision, etc...)

The Pepcat fizzled due to predictability. Entire defenses would load the box and crowd the LOS. Combine that with the fact Peppers rarely got a breather, and it amounted to a workload and task even Jabrill couldn't overcome.

There was a small part of me that died and then a larger part of me that yelled out GODDAMNIT when Ambry came into the game on Saturday and they ran yet another sweep with him.

I mean...JFC...is there not even a smidge of offensive creativity on this staff, that the only play they can come up with for a player like that is a sweep?

If I never saw Michigan run another sweep play, I'd be pretty content.

Loving the weapon selections. I think we'll see our offense evolve into something much more explosive a la Ohio st, Okie st, Oregon, etc...

Once Harbaugh has his QBs fully developed (and a couple bookend OTs in place) it'll be a thing of beauty.

Sounds like a very exciting prospect. Any concerns with having Jackson and Charbonnet in the same class? You can never have too much high-end talent, I guess?
