Gardner Wins 2014 Herbie Award

Submitted by Qmatic on

Devin Gardner won the 2014 'Herbie Award' for moment of the year for comforting JT Barrett.

It will for sure be a lasting image of Devin's career at U-M.

Gardner has played his ass off for UM. He has demonstrated class and good character during his entire career. His commitment, his character, and his allegiance and dedication to the Wolverine football program deserves respect. Your comment is cheesy.

You've had so many chances to talk about his performance in the thousands of threads about the games. He was acknowledged for his sportsmanship and humanity on the playing field. Can't you just say "good job" or "what a class act" and just move on? Why in this thread of all threads does something need to be discussed that has already been beaten to death? Let it go man.

You deserve all 56 downvotes and I just added mine.  Leaving aside that you couldn't resist just being a jerk, have you ever stopped to consider what this season would have been without Devin Gardner?  His lack of development is on the coaching staff.  His leadership is a major reason why we were not a ZERO WIN team.  Name me one game we would have won otherwise?  Morris may have piloted the team to a win over Applachian State - MAYBE.

The season sucked bad enough.  Without Devin it would have sucked WORSE

Congrats to Devin, that was a great moment not only in the rivalry but for college football overall. In these days of playoffs, big money, and constant ESPN coverage, that moment really brought everything back home for me; and is why I love college football.

Say what you will about Devin Gardner's performance as a quarterback.  As a human being and a model for what's good about 'The Michigan Difference," he's a leader and among the best.

I wasn't a big fan of Gardner wearing the number 98 but in the end it does seem a bit fitting. The last guy to wear number 98 was the last and probably only U-M player to get a standing ovation at Ohio Stadium.

True reflection of him as a person and the coach he played for.  I do not believe we will be seeing this if Harbaugh comes.  Hard to boot stomp them if you see the other team as good people.

About being a reflection of the coach he played for. If Harbaugh comes here, I still think kids who have good values will come here and do great things off the field, but maybe they won't show it to this extent.

I'll take big wins and big bowl games and playoffs though...

I'm not sure I can wrap my brain around a double-hypothetical.  But if I had to, I would probably look at Andrew Luck as an example of a product of Harbaugh sportsmanship.  And if I remember correctly I read that Luck enjoys getting inside the head of opposing lineman by enthusiastically congratulating them when they tackle him hard.  Which is f'ing brilliant.

Harbaugh!

And I am truly embarassed for anyone doubting Gardner's sincerity when he went to Barrett's side to offer him condolences on an injury that appeared to be very serious.  I love that he did it.  He's a good, caring dude.

He may be a great person outside of football, but as a player he is the reason I had a hard time watching games. I know it isn't all on him, but watching his decision making ability or lack of made me pissed. As far as those games mentioned above, that is the only time he played well was when he was hurt. I am glad that and the Hoke era are over.
