Gardner Wins 2014 Herbie Award

Submitted by Qmatic on

Devin Gardner won the 2014 'Herbie Award' for moment of the year for comforting JT Barrett.

It will for sure be a lasting image of Devin's career at U-M.

Devin and I intern at the same agency. This gesture was him through and through. It is too bad that we ultimately jump to the conclusion that when someone does a truly nice gesture, that they had an ulterior motive. I guess that is the world that we live in, we can't assume that anyone is genuine anymore, right? Devin is a great person, and if you actually knew him instead of assuming like a jack ass on an internet board, you would probably feel the same way.

Classy move by a classy man.

It's a shame that Gardner's Michigan career, like several others under Hoke, will be defined by what could've been. Yeah he was a turnover machine sometimes, but he got in there and put in work every day, and took more beatings from opposing defenses than anyone of us would ever be able to take. He kept getting right on back up. Had he won the OSU game on that damn broken foot last year, that'd be the stuff of sports legend.

I hope someone gives him a shot in the NFL. I doubt he gets drafted, but he's got the physical tools, the work ethic and the right character. Here's to hoping he can land behind a Manning, Brady, Rodgers or a Brees and get the proper coaching he needs.
