GameDay Prep: Favorite Session/All day beer?
I was hesitant to post this but I thought...what topic is more applicable to this board than this?! Whether you are at the game or have an at home tailgate I'm curious what your top session beverages are when you will be drinking all day?
Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of IPA's. We'll have the TV on outside, bonfire going, cornhole, and beer flowing by 9am tomorrow and rocking all day long decked out in UM gear right here in Columbus, OH.
**PS I'm not too good for bud light but I like to find some odd ball beers on CFB Saturdays. What are your most beloved, unique, all day drinking beers?
Here are a few I've enjoyed recently for the specific task of all day drinking:
1. UFO White https://www.ufobeer.com/
2. Three Floyds Gumballhead https://www.3floyds.com/beer/gumballhead/?age_verification=7e28cdfd84
3. Fat Heads Bumbleberry https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/19544/51389/
4. Dogfishhead Namaste https://www.dogfish.com/brewery/beer/namaste
5. Abita Purple Haze https://abita.com/brews/purple-haze
6. Bell's Oberon http://www.bellsbeer.com/beer/seasonal/bells-oberon-ale
I do enjoy heavier ABV beers but not when we are drinking for 10 hours lol. Also...I'll be in Michigan for work next week so feel free to add some Michigan local stuff I'll snag some when I'm up there!

When I used to drink my favorite all day beer was 120 minute IPA

For when you want to have alcohol poisoning before the end of halftime.
October 4th, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
He stores the excess alcohol in the glorious hair.
October 4th, 2019 at 8:53 AM ^
No wonder you stopped drinking!
October 4th, 2019 at 8:52 AM ^
Solid Gold baby. You can drink 300 of them and well, probably die if you didn't pass out long before.
But you can also just drink 10-12 throughout the day and still feel pretty good.

Great recommendation Solid Gold is a very good day drinking beer! I think it's in like the low 4's as far as ABV? Very good one!

Founders All Day IPA is my go to session beer. Plenty of flavor but only 4%.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:44 AM ^
Seconded. Favorite beer by far.
Solid Gold, as the poster above said, is another great one from Founders.
Founders is the best, man.

I drink All Day because I like IPAs but obviously want something lighter for a long drinking sesh, but I've got to admit I kind of choke it down. Don't really like the taste at all.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:22 AM ^
Xtra Citra from Surly is in that same vein. Lots of flavor at 4.5%

If I'm going to drink all day I'm pretty much always tapping into something cheap and watery (Ultra or Coors usually). However, Short's Local's Light is a great all day sippin' beer. I live in Pensacola so unfortunately I don't often have that option, but if I'm ever home in Grand Rapids that's my go-to for day drinking.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:19 PM ^
Seconded! Shorts Local Light is a fantastic all day beer!
October 4th, 2019 at 8:57 AM ^
1. Goblueram's Homebrew, of course.
2. Start the day with a world class IPA like a Tree House beer from MA or Le Jus from Chicago.
3. Can't go wrong with Founder's All Day if just drinking. If playing drinking games, Labatt Blue Light.

Well water.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:30 AM ^
Well, water and what?
October 4th, 2019 at 10:05 AM ^
we actually have one of these on the farm:
laugh now, but when it all goes bad with the zombie/buckeye/spartan attack, you'll be wishing you had fresh water....

Makes great iced tea. Honestly.
We have loads of iron in our water so I have to use the water softener, but I would go with raw well water if I didn't have to worry about it destroying our appliances.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:12 AM ^
i have it on good authority that iron keeps the zombies away. really.

Cheap bourbon/whiskey....
October 4th, 2019 at 9:03 AM ^
Another vote for Founders.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:05 AM ^
Founders all day ipa which has already been mentioned many times.
This time of year I also love all the different Oktoberfest beers out there. So far I have only had, Frankenmuth’s, Sierra Nevada and bloktoberfest. But I plan to pick up a few more tonight and have a couple tonight and a few more when I get home from the game tomorrow evening.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:09 AM ^
Founders Solid Gold. Best lager around.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:22 AM ^
Never tried that will check it out!
October 4th, 2019 at 12:46 PM ^
Solid Gold better than PC PILS (now Founder's Pilsner)??? Surely you jest! .25 higher aggregate rating on untappd as well - the masses have spoken!
October 4th, 2019 at 9:09 AM ^
Long Road's Skipjack or Auntie Smith's October Ale.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:10 AM ^
Founder's Solid Gold. It's a good tasting beer that you can do some serious volume drinking with, and it's not too expensive either.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:15 AM ^
I like founders all day session ipa and half acre daisy cutter if im going hard in the paint all day.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:15 AM ^
Southern Tier 8 days a week is a good all day beer.
Miller Lite or Yuengling tend to be the standards if it's not craft beer in my bunker.
But look what mr Postman delivered to me yesterday!! It only cost me a couple CBSs
October 4th, 2019 at 9:23 AM ^
Good beer list.
Dogfishhead is one of my faves, their session IPA. Abita Purple Haze is good. I don't care for Bell's Oberon, though I love their Two Hearted Ale.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:25 AM ^
Thanks all appreciate the great ideas!
October 4th, 2019 at 9:29 AM ^
My first beer each and every Football Saturday is always a Founders Oatmeal Breakfast Stout.
At my age, fiber IS important.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:32 AM ^
Mango Even Keel by Ballast Point. 3.8% will let you drink all day and it tastes good.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:45 AM ^
Nice! Yeah that's why I like the abita purple haze. I think it's right at 4% and tastes pretty good and just as you noted if you can find ones at that 4% zone you can drink those all day and keep rocking.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:42 AM ^
Natty Lite
October 4th, 2019 at 9:43 AM ^
I recently learned about Lagunitas Daytime and I'm really enjoying it. 4% ABV and scores a very respectable 89 on Beer Advocate. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/220/84747/
October 4th, 2019 at 9:47 AM ^
Nice! Yeah when it's an all day even I like to be stocked full of the 3.8%-4.2% beers. Between eating all day and throwing in a 20 ouce water or gatorade zero every few beers you pretty much feel good and end up hangover free.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:51 AM ^
Yep, definitely! I forgot to add, if you're a calorie counter, Daytime is only 98 calories which is a nice bonus.
October 4th, 2019 at 10:02 AM ^
It's funny I just read that is a great IPA for "people who hate IPA's". I may give it a shot and try it out! And yes sir I am a calorie counter but I sort of let it fly/anything goes on Saturdays. Thanks man!
October 4th, 2019 at 9:46 AM ^
Founders All Day IPA and Solid Gold
Miller Lite, Coors Lite or Labatt Blue Light for watery lagers (can't drink Bud Light)
Looking forward to the lower ABV of Bell's Two Hearted that's coming at some point (Light Hearted iirc)
Lots of water too.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:48 AM ^
touche' on the last comment. When it's all day even I usually do a bottled water or gatorade zero every 2 beers. Between that and lots of food you pretty much end up going to bed feeling good and hangover free the next day.
October 4th, 2019 at 9:58 AM ^
No way at my age to contemplate all-day drinking, unless I go for all-day sleeping followed by a next-day hangover.
October 4th, 2019 at 10:09 AM ^
Screw that ipa BS lol. If it’s not coors light it’s regular old Budweiser. Back in the day before I had a pot to piss in it was strohs and natty. During our win streak last year I decided to not switch beer so wouldn’t jinx it so it was all Budweiser, I gained 7lbs.
October 4th, 2019 at 10:28 AM ^
I can and have drunk Michigander from Big Lake Brewing over in Holland all day. Makes for a great damn day!
October 4th, 2019 at 10:34 AM ^
This year I started drinking Double Two Hearted as early as possible. I was told bad shit happened during the Wisky game but I have no personal proof.
October 4th, 2019 at 10:57 AM ^
Stroh's is spoken here
October 4th, 2019 at 11:04 AM ^
All day and craft beer just doesn't go well for me. I drink Bud Lights, White Claws, and add in the heavy beers throughout as a change up.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:11 AM ^
I’m not really a beer drinker. My preference would be a nice Sativa but sadly I don’t have access at the moment.
October 4th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
1. Spaten Lager - when I'm feeling flush with cash (doesn't happen much)
2. Beck's to start and then after a few switch over to Budweiser.
Stroh's used to be my volume beer until I moved to Chicago in the early 90's and everywhere it was Budweiser and Harry Caray (especially at his bar/restaurant).
October 4th, 2019 at 11:21 AM ^
1. LaCroix
2. Labatts NA
