There were also a number of games where Fitz had to take one for the team and the results were very positive for Denard.  Our read/option game pretty much boiled down to just the inverted veer last year (probably a reflection of what the interior line could do), and a lot of teams (thinking of Purdue specifically) were forced to pick their poison on that play.  They chose to defend Fitz and every time he got the ball headed toward the sideline he was swarmed by multiple defenders.  Conversely, Denard was able to rack up over 10ypc and get a free run at a DB in space whenever he kept the ball up the middle.  I'm sure Borges will take that tradeoff every time, it just made it look like Fitz personally wasn't playing as well as he has in the past.

Throw in the fact that he missed over 3.5 games (and was racking up yards against Iowa when he went down) and I think we'll see a very good year out of Fitz if he's back healthy in 2013.

Competition brings the most out of athletes. I'm excited to see who wins the running back battle between Fitz, and presumably Derrick Green. I am glad to see Fitz better after that nasty break

"To test the leg, Toussaint has done non-contact lateral drills in practice. When he is home, he said, he will sometimes "run into something, my bed or something like that on this leg, purposely, to see how things feel."

This is an interesting way to go about testing one's progress, but you do have to admire the drive to get back to the field it shows. In any case, this is great news about Fitz and thanks to the OP for the update.

The article said he had a "broken left tibia and a fractured left fibula".

What is the difference between a break and a fracture?  To me, his whole lower leg looked like it had formed an angle close to 90 degrees, and it absolutely sickened me.  I thought both of the bones had snapped in two.

Good to hear he's doing so well, and I look forward to him being back and totally healthy.

There ya go...SAME THING PEOPLE!

The difference is displaced vs. non-displaced i.e. did the bone fragments move once they became seperate (broken, fractured, ouchy'd, whatever). A displaced fracture may need surgery to fixate it back to anatomical (normal) alignment. Someone may also need surgery when multiple bones are affected or when it affects the joint (like our dear RB here)

you dont need a new account because your computer crashed. You simply log in from a different computer. When your computer crashed did you just open new financial accounts and assume the old ones lost with the computer?  Never mind, go back to questioning the intelligence of others.

must be remarkable if at first he thought it was a cramp. I still have bad flashbacks of when he went down, and then subsequently looked down with that horrific look on his face.  I think the reaction probably rivaled that of Lattimore's injury to end his season last year.

Glad to hear Fitz is doing well. I saw him walking around outside Dennison a few weeks ago and he looked fine. I think Fitz will start out as the starting RB and Green will get a lot of reps and then it will be mainly Green towards the end of the season, but I would love for a two running back system.
