I got UCONN, Houston, CU, and I will be rooting for JSU, but MSU will win.
Houston is actually opening their new stadium tonight. TDECU Stadium.
Wow, that is nice! What was the reason behind it? Old stadium to small, not on campus?
They were originally gonna expand Robertson Stadium but a study proved it would make more sense to raze it and build a new home on the site of their old one.
Wasn't that old of a stadium. Built in 1942. They demolished it after the 2012 season, and played home games in 2013 at Reliant and BBVA Compass.
A stadium for ants !!!!???
I'd prefer UConn in the B1G over Rutgers. Just figured I'd throw that out there.
Because of their Midwest roots, right?
Who says we won't have both?
Let's go JSU!
10:30 vs UNLV.
uh oh , Uconn.
Let's go Jax State!
I do have to ask this - is "HAHAHAHAHA Connecticut" an appropriate reply to turning it over and then yielding the 2nd touchdown of the game as a result of your FIRST offensive play? I found it funny actually, but only because I still think of last year and our game sometimes.
Sparty packing them in early.
He just said that MSU has been a top ten defense since Dantonio has been at MSU. In fact, MSU was a middling defensive team until their fourth season when they made the jump to a good defense.
Deer antler spray does wonders.
Anyway to watch MSU online ?
How are these questions still being asked?
Montae Nicholson sigh
no fly defense....
Let's go Cocks
That was easy enough
JSU doing the Brian Kelly playbook - throw deep down the sidelines over and over.
The BYU QB is a pretty good runner. Is he the guy who single handedly ran over Texas?
Oh boy, Connor Cook's knee. Hope he's OK.
No reason to hit Cook low there.
Ouch... hope sparty's QB knee is ok....
So does every Sparty fan in the world
MAY BE DONE FOR AWHILE
I hate that those plays are penalties these days. If you leave your feet before the ball is out it should never be a penalty
Guess I'm in the minority
He targeted the knee / leg as obviously as I think I can ever recall seeing.
It wasn't a late hit, but once someone on twitter calls it dirty all the sheep follow and call it Bush league.
Unnecessary hit in my opinion.
Looking at the replay it looks like he left his feet after the throw, and there's absolutely no reason to try to hit him low, there.
Oof..that looked painful.
That was a terrible hit - but it looked straight on. So, hopefully its only a hyperextension and no ACL/MCL damage. I hate Sparty, but I don't like to see people get seriously injured no matter what jersey they wear.
It brings me joy to see OSU and MSU players injured.
is some folks' major malfunction...
conner cook just took a cheap shot to knee from a Jacksonville st. player. looked like he intended to injure. not cool
I hope cooks alright . That was pretty sickening.
That looked pretty dirty. Didnt' look like that player was attempting a normal tackle.
Looks like you can beat State's DBs if you're a speedy WR
JSU isn't executing.
is that you???
Good to see Kings playing. He is a playmaker.
Well, this one is over. Anything else on?
Ok that finishes it off. Good game JSU.
LOL... might want to cover him JSU.
Looks like we have some real close games here
JSU's defense blows.
Both the corner and safety on that side blitzed together.. lol.
Look at #99's stomach for Jville.
It makes me a little sad that BYU is handling UConn. Also MSU's defense still seems very scary and at this rate Connor Cook will have 10 completions for 9 TDs.
classic. In one fell swoop ed martin destroyed our program while empowering msu.
Uuuuuh, I think there's a little more to it than Ed Martin.
Yeah. INCLUDE LLOYD
It's one game vs JSU, you can't take anything away from this game. Now next week they travel to Oregon, and I would bet my life savings they don't look this impressive next week.
State might be vulnerable to like... literally just four verts.
But J'ville State's secondary is... poor.
Fuck Sparty, that is all
The most exciting part of the night will be seeing Houston's stadium.
They should be playing at the Astrodome. I mean, why waste money when you have a state-of-the-art facility already in Houston?
This game is good a good prep for Sparty for next week. That will be an interesting game.
Oh and the game is at Autzen. It's crown can bedevil an opponent.
Still can't hurt to get some real game experience against an option offense with speedy players to get tuned up. Also, Autzen is tough but it's not like a team that plays with MSU's style (ala Stanford) hans't been successful there.
Nothing about this game is helping MSU prepare for Oregon. JSU defenders are simply not covering the receivers, and their QB is throwing the ball right to the secondary.
I think this is a perfect game for MSU. Team may get overconfident and the fans definitely will be setup for a meltdown if the game in Autzen doesn't go so well.
That pass thrown by the JSU qb was probably the worst decision I've ever seen. Threw it directly at Drummond.
Jesus #99, get a jersey that can fit at least 3/4 of your stomach.
Listed at 6 ft 300. Hmm.
Probably shouldn't be kicking FG's next weekend anyways.
Damn, that JSU screen was going to go for a long way.
Man JState has had some solid play calls, their guys just can't execute. Lot's of open guys but nearly all have been dropped! If Sparty plays like this vs Oregon next week they're gonna get destroyed.
helmet into Cook's knee
Just straight balling on JSU right now. The Oregon match up will be a good one.
... it appears that MSU alumni association of Seattle has decided to watch their football games at the bar across the street from my house.
Crazy nice touch on that TD fade. And that receiver was a walk-on.
MSU looking excellent. Good for the conference, I guess.
That E Lansing game, if it wasn't before, is definitely looking like the toughest one on our schedule now.
Based on them beating on a D2 school with a QB that throws side arm. Okay , I believe you.
I would the defending conference and Rose Bowl champs would look good against an average D2 program. Not much else to take away from this game.
Beating a D2 team with a new coach is not impressive.
They better shore up that read option coverage prior to next week.
Make a fucking play on the ball dude. SMH
They're talking about how MSU still has a chip on their shoulder even though they finished 3rd in the national polls last year. Think I'm gonna have to mute this.
The world has no shortage of things to take umbrage to.
Can't except that they won because in their minds they never will.
This JSU QB is truly awful. It's not like he's getting heavily pressured, either.
Some good news
70-yard touchdown right up the gut for Mike Weber. Showed off some serious wheels when he finally got a crease to hit.
— Ace Anbender (@AceAnbender) August 30, 2014
Boeheim going for the stall.
But seriously folks, 'Nova ran drive for about six minutes to start, held 'Cuse on three downs and then ran into the punter for a penalty that gave 'Cuse the chance to get a 65-yard TD run by grad student Prince-Tyson Gulley.
'Nova dominating time of possession, but had a pass dropped in the red zone and missed a field goal from about the 34.
Will see whether 'Cuse draws more fans for football vs. 'Nova than it does for hoops vs. 'Nova. Playing the game indoors. When it's 72 outdoors, the dome can feel like a sauna. Despite the name, the Carrier Dome has no air conditioning.
Al Groh (NY Jets head coach between Bill Parcells and Herman Edwards) is the analyst. Jets Fans: Rich Kotite was not available.
I've seen a lot of blatant penalties, notably Hicks pushing that WR off his route and then getting the pick
That was a pretty sweet run by Hill
He needs to return punts against us.
There's still time for Jax State to come back.
Made so many terrible zone option reads and has missed easy throws. His first throw of the game is a td if he doesn't lead his WR out of bounds.
UConn getting South Carolina'd
is just terrible because sparty looks awfully tough. Was expecting a ho hum offense and some big plays against their D but they look like they haven't missed a step from last the end of last year
So no, they should be pretty good for an FCS team
With a new coach. And you also have to consider the amount of teams that have left D2 for D1 in the last few years (around 9 by my count).
Awful PI call there. Just terrible
In all reality, they're doing what a top 10 team should do against schools like
jax state. Beating that ass! Is anyone really surprised? Did anyone really think there was going to be huge upset in East Lansing tonight?
Let's let Miami of Ohio fill that role, thank you.
UConn pulling a Hoke. Down three scores with a minute and three timeouts left, and they choose to go into a shell. Fuck that.
I really don't understand why teams from power conferences play these games. How is this helping anyone get better?
Reps, confidence, practice.
Reps against an opponent that doesn't cover your WRs are pointless reps. This JSU team is unbelievably bad.
JSU was a vastly better team than Appalachian State last year---11-4 and in the quarterfinals versus 4-8--and are supposed ro be better this year. This only makes Brandon's whim to play AppState all the more ridiculous.
Appalachian State is transitioning to D1. So saying that JSU is better than AppState is insane.
Transitioning to 1-A is a red herring. App State didn't suddenly get an influx of talent within the past 12 months to compensate for being a markedly inferior team to Jacksonville State last year--who also has 15 starters back from last year. Take your blinders off. App State was horrible.
No Jabrill tonight. That's right, he is suiting up for a noon game in AA.
With the new playoff system there may be a lot of incentive to run up scores.
Agree, but these schedules were set a few years ago. A closer score with backups may be the difference between the #4 getting in and the #5 being left out.
I kinda doubt it against bad early-season teams. If anyone is swayed by, say, MSU kicking Jacksonville St.'s butt to start the year, they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a playoff ranking system.
I was thinking more along the lines of Texas A&M keeping the foot on the gas (and risking injury to starters) long after the game was out of reach.
So, that was something of a lackluster first half from the Huskies - they gave up 329 yards to BYU, 28 points and 7.48 yards per play on average. For their considerably stunted offensive effort, 158 yards on only 31 plays, which comes out to about 5.10 yards per play. Taysom Hill is coming up big here, comprising about 70% of BYU's yards gained right now.
So THAT is what a non skittish qb who is reliable on 3rd downs, looks like. I almost forgot, since we havent seen it since 2007.
You miss the 2011 Michigan OSU game?
I'll take a skittish QB when he goes 32-45, 451, four passing TDs and one rushing TD.
Sparty might not be top 5 in the country, but they're top 20 easily, and this is what a team like that should do, at home, to a bottom-dweller. We should dominate this way tomorrow, perhaps with a few less points.
Dee Hart sighting.....sigh. What could have been in that class
Wow, these calls are so bad. JSU would still be getting their ass kicked, but these horrendous calls aren't helping anyone. PR TD (or at least a decent return) just got called off for a BS "signal".
Dee Hart with a couple of nice runs for Colorado State over on fs1. Weird he ended up there.
isn't his first OC from Bama the HC at CSU now? McElwain (sp)?
If you say so. Makes sense.
Hey is this Shortell guy the QB from Minnesota last year that the announcers were going to give the Heisman too?
Yeah, and he's a mess.
I smell a comeback.
If you were Hoke and we are up 38-0 at the half tomorrow, how long would you keep the starters playing considering you have ND the following week?
Pull them, but maybe leave the oline in there longer so they can gel more.
Pull them. Get our second and third stringers some playing time. Maybe leave the O-Line in a bit more, but defense wise, all the first stringers get pulled. Morris and/or Bellomy get the remainder of the snaps at that point.
It wouldn't even be about scoring at that point, though.
Was just thinking the same thing. 3.9 YPC against an FCS team is poor. Special teams has also been surprisingly bad.
Can the players on Colorado or Colorado State be suspended for smoking pot ?
Probably an ncaa violation.
MSU's secondary looks kind of bad tonight.
They look like they always do - leaving guys wide open and relying on mediocre QB play caused by intense pressure.
You know, for a series or two, it seemed like Jacksonville State had MSU a little off-balance and not playing quite like they normally would, but all is as you might expect now and the Gamecocks have settled into simply taking their lashings with a side of blown coverage. Incidentally, Michigan State is approaching 500 yards of offense at this point, whereas Jacksonvill State still has 42 to get before they manage 200 yards.
Nice goal line stops by Colorado State.
I don't remember so many WRs beating them though. Obviously JSU doesn't have the qb to challenge it and their OC ran a ton of running plays straight into their front.
BTN announcer just said Damian Terry is "like Terrelle Pryor the way he can run like a gazelle, but Terry has better mechanics"
Then they had a discussion about the best QB's in the B1G and mentioned 6 QB's and not one was DG. How does that dude get no respect? He's top 2 in the league with Braxton Miller injured.
Yeah they mentioned Rudock Brown and Suddfield and no Devin.
Isn't the color guy former MSU QB Jim Miller? He's a slappy and isn't going to give any respect to Michigan. Earlier in the game he mentioned MSU's toughest games being Oregon, Nebraska, and OSU. I REALLY want to kick their butts in East a Landing this year!
I know we would love to beat them both but if we could only get one would it be better to beat Sparty or OSU this year.
I am so sick if Dantonio I am really on the fence
This is a tough one but I'd have to go with MSU
Who the fuck is Brown?
I'm pretty sure he said CJ Brown the QB from Maryland. But DG really gets no repsect from people outside of the Michigan fan base. I saw someone compare him to Gary Nova which is down right disrespectful, since Nova is horrible,
Complaining about cheap shots. Lol
King hurt on that play. Wonder why he's even in at that point
Dee hart with a great td run
Maize and Blue for their superimposed line of scrimmage and first down lines. Nice color choice. Hope they use that all season.
AZ and RR on in a few minutes against UNLV. I was listening to a Detroit sports radio station earlier this week ( I know my first mistake), but the 2 hosts ( not Valenti or any other MSU homers) openly wished that RR had a better season than Hoke. I guess I just don't understand the vitriol in this area/state for hometown teams
Good grief Dee Hart looks good, NFL good.
Miss u Rich :(
Miss u Bo.:(
Seems like more than usual, but maybe it's only the few that I actually noticed. We surmise that Dantonio figures he's got to go for broke this year.
Sparty looked very good in the first half. Jacksonville can't tackle. My only other take away is that MSU needs Cook badly. I get that the you're not going to see the same intensity in the second half but O'Connor didn't impress.
Rich Rod looks like he needs some Grecian formula.
Jacksonville state is in Alabama. Lost that bet.
The "Bear Down" in Arizona's field is beyond dumb!
It's really only dumb if GERG is the DC.
easily down the field and then the kicker misses a very makeable FG?
Brings back dark memories ...
Dee Hart is having himself a game.
'Nova kicker blows 25 yard FG near end of regulation to cause OT, after he'd made a 25 yarder to tie it. Each team kicked a FG in first OT. 'Cuse had a fake FG and TD pass from the holder to go up 27-20; 'Nova scored a TD and then decided to go for two for the win instead of kicking the extra point to tie and head to third OT period. 'Cuse stopped the 'Nova runner cold to seal the win.
Like Tyler Ennis hitting a buzzer beating three to beat Pitt in hoops last season at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse Head Coach and former Michigan Defensive Coordinator Scott Shafer escapes with a win.
Glad to hear Scott Schafer has been able to emerge from underneath that bus we last saw him under.
One of the worst trades ever in American sports.
91 yard pass td for Zona. God I miss that offense.
So you miss scoring 7 points against capable defenses?
Not just scoring but 91 and 82 yard scores. I'm hoping this offense improves but will see tomorrow I guess
Are you asking whether we would rather have the 2010 Michigan offense or the 2013 Michigan offense? Believe it or not, many would choose 2010. Negative rushing yards for multiple complete games may be your idea of doing well against good defenses, but not everyone agrees. Putting up 158 yards total against Iowa (albeit with both positive running yards and positive passing yards) might be a great achievement in your book, but others might reasonably disagree. Some of us would also take the 2013 Arizona offense over the 2013 Michigan offense. Putting up 42 points on a fifth-ranked Oregon squad in a victory is something you surely discount. I'm sure they would trade that game for our domination of Akron and UConn, right?
Because the hallmark of RR's offenses were scoring 7 against capable defenses. Not torching every other capable defense at every other stop besides UM.
Man, RR going apeshit on the sideline brought back some some bad flashbacks.
