Friday Beverage, BBQ, and Whatnot Thread
Mates,
Second cutting of hay is in the barn, and cool temps prevailed. As some of you know (robf, outsidethebox, and others), hay baling somehow is the hottest days of the summer, but not this time. Kids were on the hay wagon listening to music as the bales came out of the hayliner. Outstanding attitudes. 2nd cutting was a bit thin though as dry weather the last 6 weeks made for great tourist visits but was not the best for hay.
August is just a few days away. Football starts in earnest in a matter of days. I'm linking a video to the 'Boys of Fall', possibly the greatest football song ever written.

If one of you could embed that I'd be much obliged.
And as summer is slipping away, its still time to BBQ at your house, and the Big House.
What is on your BBQ and what, pray tell, is in your glass?
XM
Ubering to Dick O’Dow’s after a full day at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Planning to drink whatever they serve me and hopefully eat food. See ya there.
BLTs tonight, at my better half's request. At this stage of the game, any evening that she is actually interested in dinner is a win. Didn't use the BBQ to cook the bacon, although I have done that in the past. Followed that up with warmed peaches over vanilla ice cream. Not a fancy summer dinner, but perfect as it was. Nothing in the glass at the moment, but might choose something fairly simple after I take the pup for our usual evening stroll--I think our streak is up to about 130 consecutive evenings now, ever since around the first day of Spring. Tomorrow I have to 'work'--tough for us retired types--as my daughter arrives for a two week visit on Sunday, and I don't want her to be reminded from whom she inherited her bad-at-house-cleaning genes.
good on you, rendezvous. i know you have a heavy cross to bear these days.
enjoy the visit with daughter.
Thanks, XM. Will do. She's a rock star when it comes to taking care of her mother (and me, too, fwiw!).
That's wholesome. Congrats on the preparation for your company. It takes a lot of patience after you raise them and then they come back with other tendencies. Anyways, I enjoyed your post, that's what I just tried to say!
Embed for you
thank you GBGW. still gives me goosebumps to watch that video.
Went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and then saw Rage Against the Machine in Cleveland on Wednesday.
On Thursday, drove from Cleveland and Fremont to see my Grandmother, then saw blues legend Buddy Guy in Sylvania later that night.

Double Post
Enjoy some Rage and Buddy
That sounds like an amazing musical week. #totallyjealous
It was.
Seeing Rage in Detroit in April of next year but I couldn't wait that long so I went this week
I did something similar a few years back. My favorite band is Manchester Orchestra. I had tickets to see them at The Fillmore downtown. A few weeks earlier, they were playing in Ohio, so we bought (much cheaper) tickets and made the trip. The Detroit show was the second best concert I've ever attended. The first was Jay-Z and DMX at JLA in 2001.
I saw Buddy Guy at Ricks in the 80s. I'm convinced some of my hearing loss relates to that night. No regrets.
I had some Backyard BBQ Pulled Pork in the Tovala. Comes with Cornbread. Got a BDay dinner with MIL tomorrow being cooked by my Vegan SIL, so we'll see.
That is a fantastic song!
Daydrank with a neighbor earlier, so I'll keep the Labatt Light in the fridge and go with a porch sparkling water.
I do have just a bit of yardwork left to do, so maybe that will lead to a porch beer. Almost a must after yardwork, really.
…also goes well with the yardwork!
When my Dad was with us, he had a riding mower with a cup (can? bottle?) holder so you maaaaay be on to something there!!
Having my wife's fam over to have our gender reveal for our second. Starts in 15 mins, doing the cake surprise.
So started with a red bull bomb, now it's onward to different kinds of beer and bourbon!
Congrats on the fertility!!!
well, dish! what is dear #2 child going to be....?
SPOILER ALERT: A wolverine.
wolverine is not a 'gender', it is a calling....
How risque in 2022!
A girl, our second one. Very exciting!
Thanks for the support fam!
Sitting outside under the deck with the fan on, drinking a basic Merlot and a enjoying a good cigar. Nothing better on a Friday night.
Hope you are all relaxing after a week of work!
How many wagons did you get, XM? Nothing like the feeling of finishing the job. I was always a bit crazy and liked being up in the barn, pulling and tossing as the bales came off the elevator.
Just finished with some tacos. Now cracking a High Life and settling in to finish a good book.
Cheers, all!
we (read: I) elected to cut one newly planted larger field down and not bale it. we want to keep the moisture in that field. the ones we baled today were thin for the most part, so not many wagons. the fun part was watching the 4 youngest dance to music as we went round-n-round in the fields, they were having a fine time. they don't mind working and they enjoy each other a lot.
After a long day at the golf course, arrived at 6 am to set up and bartend for a fundraiser outing. Eight hours later ran a couple errands then played nine with the Mgowife. Beers and pizza on the patio overlooking the 10th hole. Back home now sipping on a generous pour of Redbreast 12 cask strength 🥃👍.
Cheers everyone and have a great big beautiful weekend!!!!!😊
I hope you beat your wife. And not in a Charlie Sheen sense.
Redbreast es muy delicioso!
Slainte!
Have a wok set up on the grill doing some kung pao. Drinking anything I can find that's cold. It's pretty toasty here in the Pacific NW.
Stay hydrated my friend 🍻🍺🥃
Or 95% hydrated anyways
Walked 18 holes this afternoon. Had a very nice Vietnamese chicken curry over rice for supper-that my wife made yesterday. Passion fruit concentrate over ice is very tasty and refreshing too.
Orange juice in the cup. No food on the grill. My whole family got covid from that big wedding this past weekend. Sucks. Saw enough people coughing without covering their mouths that it seemed inevitable. Gross.
Glad you got the hay baled and that the weather is great!
Covid sucks man. I was down and out for 8-9 days. Hope you have better luck, MGoHillWilliam!
MGH, bummer! i hope it passes quickly through you all and are on the other side by monday.
@ Mgohillbilly. Wow, sorry to hear that. Hope you and the family are going to be okay. Check your email, sent you a little update on Alberta Premium. Get better soon !!!!
Sorry to hear that. Hope you all recover quickly.
Hoping you all get better quickly MGoHillbilly!
My oldest sister and her hubby have been fighting COVID for just over a week now and it's put their day-to-day plans in jeopardy, their 12-yr old grandson (my great-nephew) is playing in the Little League Midwest Regional (they're the Missouri LL champions) near Indy in a few days and we're all planning to head down there to catch a couple of their games. Win in Indy and the next trip would be to Williamsport PA for the 2022 Little League World Series.
Anyway, my sis said they're going IF they both test negative soon, they're both still experiencing mild symptoms (fully vaxxed & double- boosted) but both are also in their late 60s and taking all the necessary steps.

I am embarking on a rewatch of something I consider to be one of the most biting, innovative and genre-breaking sitcoms ever made - "The Fall & Rise Of Reginald Perrin". It's based on a novel actually, which I have in my library, oddly enough.
It is difficult to summarize if you've never seen or heard of it (many of you likely have not) - it has to be experienced really. It starts out being about a man who, tired of his suburban hellhole and tired of his job in sales at a dessert manufacturer, slowly (then quickly) descends into madness, fakes his own death only to return a month later as someone else. It goes in a couple directions after that, each one rather entertaining. each time ending with a reinvention of sorts, each time he realizes that he can't avoid being who he is.
Do you bail hay and alfalfa? The latter was always tougher days in late summer, especially with bails 1.5-2X heavier. I remember some tough days in late July and early August in KS heat with loading and unloading bails.
Glad my weekends have drinks and great food compared to 20+ yrs ago. Cheers.
Our hay has grasses, rye, clover and of course some alfalfa.
That's what I'm expecting my vegan SIL to make for dinner tomorrow...
user name checks out? i mean, you are a yak, and a yak would be right at home at the farm...
Sipping on a spin on a Negroni, using Genever in place of the gin, maltier and less junipery, but equally delicious!
Will be checking out my new neighborhood's butcher this weekend, might be tempted to snag something for the grill, but no recipe or cut in mind, so TBD. My plan is to have an open plan.
