Oh Canteen Boy!

With the most spring ball hype.
Starting safeties are Stevie Brown and Cam Gordon. (Yes, I realize they both became solid contributors at different positions)

I had forgotten about that one. Was he even warming up last Saturday? He's 4th-string now and people wanted to crown him in the spring. Especially that one guy who must have gotten banned.
Also, how has no one mentioned Lawrence Marshall? That guy has been praised for a while now and can't see the field over a severely undersized Ross at BUCK.

I'm not sure, Grady is a good one. How about Max Martin?

Sears was going to be LOCK DOWN.

Maybe Morgan Trent or BooBoo Cissoko on the other side.
Pat Massey on the defensive line, probably Mike Massey at TE as well.

could work in Justin Turner in our nickel package.

Don't forget about the one kid that I forgot about...he transferred to Pitt to play CB.
November 4th, 2015 at 6:10 PM ^
Totally forgot about that dude
November 4th, 2015 at 1:35 PM ^
Max had plenty of talent and - with the glaring exception of some fumble issues - was able to translate onto the field, hype wasn't the problem.

Grady Brooks during the Carr era. He was a LB from TX who was supposed to be great and then never even became a consistent starter.
November 4th, 2015 at 1:25 PM ^
Was the hype Greg Mattison heaped on Nathan Brink.

Forcier and Gutierrez as top spring hype QBs, right? I am a little young, so I could be missing a better example.
November 4th, 2015 at 1:36 PM ^
I wouldn't put him in this catagory. He supposedly hurt his shoulder and thus Henne got the starting nod. Henne had a pretty darn good year as a true frosh too.
November 4th, 2015 at 2:22 PM ^
Yeah, maybe my memory is bad. I thought the spring hype on Gutierrez finally taking over after Navarre's graduation was big, and the injury occurred in fall camp. IIRC he wound up playing well at a lower division, but in terms of spring hype that didn't translate to results at U-M, maybe he is a contender. Of course, Forcier had the pretty good starting year and some nice substitution appearances during Denard's first year as starter, so maybe he doesn't count either, but I think most folks think of the potential we all envisioned when he led the game-winning drive against ND at home in '09 and are disappointed that he didn't keep it together.

Yep. Gutierrez got Wally Pipped.

He got hurt and lost his probable starting job to Henne, but Gutierrez still ended up playing in the NFL so I wouldn't exactly call him just camp hype.

Jake Ryan got a mountain of hype during bowl practice when he was redshirting. Obviously that turned out to be correct chatter, but there was a ton of it.

his mom holds a position with the team. My guess would be that Lyons isn't really that talented as once thought and that his mom is actually of a lot more value to the program long term. Harbaugh is a slick son-of-a-gun!

His Lyon eyes. They couldn't hide it.

Does it really matter? Was there another graduate transfer that would have been a better option?
November 4th, 2015 at 1:02 PM ^
you mean all the uninformed masses that just repeat what everyone else that doesnt have a clue keeped repeating? harbaugh never said it, he brought in an athelete to compete for a position. for all we know he could be doing a great job in practice but not enough to see the field.

Last time I checked Stribling was playing pretty well. They could be the best 1-2 CB punch in the B1G, possibly the Nation next year. CUMONG MAN!

Just stop it man....I can't argue with you. The play against Minnesota was a well executed double move and a perfect throw! Sure, it was Stribling's assignment and he got beat. When you play a press-man coverage across the board, some times those things happen. Even Peppers doesn't always play lock-down coverage. Plus, when you are opposite Lewis, teams are going to target you more frequently. You are completely wrong about Stribling and you have earned all the negs coming your way.
