Franklin County (location of Columbus, OH) at "severe" COVID risk

Ohio has been using a color-coded system sine June to designate the severity of covid outbreak (4 tiers, ranging from yellow-orange-red-purple).  Franklin County (including Columbus) just hit "purple" or "severe" outbreak status today - first ever in the state.  Per the Ohio Dept Health, "people should only leave their home for supplies and services."

If I play for IU, or have a loved one as part of their program, I'm not sure now is a good time to go to Columbus.  I'm sure the governor will make an exception for OSU sporting teams - he has already given them a few loopholes already.

You people are the most pathetic, beaten group of sad sacks in America. Hey, Quinn Ewers just committed to Ohio State 30 minutes ago. That's right... the top QB in America for 2022, and arguably the top overall player. You keep on hoping and praying for a germ to infect kids playing football, though. Classy.

I think I've made two covid-related posts in the past 2-3 weeks, both today - although I admit to making several over the past few months.

It's a bit like watching a train wreck, a massive fire or a natural disaster (or our recent fb team performance)... it's horrible and tragic to see, but you can't help watching and pointing out what is happening.

I live here in Franklin County and it’s frustrating to see state mandates being issued but nothing is enforceable. DeWine said he won’t enforce things so it really doesn’t matter. So in reality it’s worst case here, but the “restraints” that have certain groups upset with comes down to bars needing to stop serving at 10pm with people in the bar needing to finish their drink and leave by 11 pm.

Agree.  I live in the Toledo area, and in a non-partisan way I was quite pleased with aspects of the way he approached this whole thing in the beginning.  He seems to think that telling Ohioans that he’s “not mad, just disappointed” will somehow fix things.  Interesting strategy that I can’t say I really agree with.  The curfew is really not going to change much, IMO.
Additionally, the last two days of case results are “delayed” for retesting.  12,000 additional cases are almost sure to be added to the last 2 day totals to make a 2 day total over 27,000.  That’s... not great.

OT question here. I'll be driving to Michigan soon and will be stopping by AA for a late lunch/early dinner on Saturday.  Is stuff still open? Any shelter in place stuff currently happening where I shouldn't even bother? Michigan isn't my stomping ground anymore so I'm not clued in to what's going on there regarding covid-19.

She seems nice.

Good thing her brain surgery was a year ago and not sometime in the near future when the hospitals might be a little busy.

Odd thoughts from a woman who got a MRS, err, Nursing Degree.  Though, I wonder if she got one of those in case things didn't workout with her QB boyfriend so she could find herself a doctor instead.

Pretty much the whole state is experiencing what a lot of states are experiencing: a spike of positive cases that makes earlier numbers look like nothing. However, the hospitals are still holding up, the number of deaths is greatly decreased (hopefully not to spike a couple of weeks from now) and our governor has implemented a curfew at 10pm, which, I guess, protects vampires and other nocturnal creatures. Joking aside, it's a scary time, and after eight months of essentially locking ourselves down, I think we're used to it, though we'll miss family during the holiday season.

Yet dumbass Dewine thinks bars and schools can be open at the same time. Matter of fact, schools are volunteering to shutdown yet we can go down and get drunk at the local crowded bar and visit grandma next week on thanksgiving. He nothing but a paid off puppet trying to get re-elected in 2022.

Sorry OP, but Michigan has around the same amount of new cases each day and almost half the population. If you go off what you said no one should come play rhe Michigan schools either

It doesn't have anything to do with MI - it's more a question about the standards in OH (I live there and see this every day).

DeWine was adamant over the summer about counties that hit "purple" would practically need to shut down again... they set those levels so that it was very difficult for them to be hit unless the situation went completely to hell.  Yet, here we are and what is he actually going to do?  He has hinted at maybe (partially) closing down bars & restaurants again, but that is just the "low-hanging fruit".  If he was serious, it would be most/all non-essential activity and travel... and a college-football game is certainly not "essential".

Yeah, he told us a week ago that if things didn’t improve, bars/restaurants/gyms were getting closed down for in-person again.  A week later, with worse data, and nothing.  I’m not at all rooting for more hardships on businesses or their employees, but clearly the message isn’t working.

The thing is without a vaccine the only way to stop the spread is a complete shutdown for 3 weeks and no traveling. Stay the fuck home. But what would a total shutdown do to the economy? This is where our leaders failed big time. They should have explained the spread was never going to stop with people traveling outside of their normal routines without a vaccine. This was imminent imo. Let’s not forget the initial models had 2 million dead in the US.And deaths have slowed big time since we hit 200k.Flattening the initial surge was brilliant. Gave our medical professionals time to figure out how to treat the virus and come up with testing. And within a month we’ll see two different vaccines rolling out. Amazing what has been accomplished in such a short time.
